Welcome Meredith! Yeah we all battle the same struggles too. You're diagnosis is fairly recent and it just takes time to figure it all out. I'm still trying and it has been about 18 months. We're here to support you so keep in touch on this thread!
Now for me...I had an emotional eating day today but am putting it behind me and moving on to the next day to do better for good health...:drinker:0 -
Welcome srnath and Meredith!! Glad you found us!
Wasabi to me is a more "clear your sinuses / take your breath" hot than burning your taste buds. I think I will try the almonds that sounds good. With the wasabi powder it will be more likely to keep me from overindulging
Not much new going on with me. I just wanted to check in and see how everyone was doing.
Glad to hear the good reports! Keep up the great work!!

will be working out today in gym and tommorow will be outdoor track. my data collected daily since Dec 2010 tells me that using this site for you food log and information with working out 5 times a week you will control your blood sugar. a big step that people miss and i found out when i put my Bongos Diabetic Log on FB is that, to share with everyone you plight be it successful or failure, using MFP as the same avenue relieves the stress factor that you realize you are not alone..success is in WE, US, FAMILY, FRIENDS, CO-WORKERS..you will fail if you believe in only 'I'0 -
Wanted to pop in and say hello to you all! I was diagnosed in 2001 so although I've had it for awhile I still am learning and I'm not sure it's fully hit me how much my life has to change and stay changed to keep healthy. Dropping weight certainly has made a difference in my numbers but I certainly have a way to go on that. But to me each time I see my numbers lower it excites me as I know it means my body is getting healthier.
I'll work on reading from the beginning to catch up and get to know you all and once I'm caught up I'll add to the group:flowerforyou:
Looking forward to offering and accepting support from fellow T2's0 -

I'm eating much healthier now but I still am not on a very regular eating schedule but I am working on it and hopefully from being around you all I will learn just how important so much of this is!
"DO NOT DO WHAT I WAS DOING WHICH WAS NOTHING" <~~~ This is what really spoke to me, you sharing your experience and then seeing this!0 -
My Dad died in 1999 at 64 from complications of Diabetes, then in 2001 my oldest brother died from a Diabetic comma at age 46. I was diagnosed in 2001 after looking at the symptoms of Diabetes because my brother had never been diagnosed (I had every symptom). I weighed 310 lbs and I am 5' 10" I started dieting and walking and lost down to 220 in 12 months I was on 2000mg of glucophage and the Dr dropped it back to 500mg. I gained steadily back up to 250. Then in Sep 2008 we moved to Kansas, after moving I started gaining faster. This past Christmas I weighed 280 and decided it is time to do something about it. Dropping weight certainly has made a difference in my numbers too.
So I paid $50 and registered for a 1/2 marathon coming up this June 4th in Kansas City. That a way, I had to get in shape. I started walking again in Jan, when the weather is nice I walk outside and when it is not I go to the gym. I am up to 8 miles and have lost 23 lbs so far and my sugar is down. I am so excited to find MFP and this Topic.
I want to be an encouragement to anyone I can. We can control this terrible disease.0 -
I'm also a Type 2 diabetic and I have to say that losing weight really can make a huge difference in how easy it it to manage your diabetes. I've lost a total of 47 pounds from my highest weight so far, have been able to cut my diabetes medication dosage in half and have seen my A1C drop from over 8 to below 6 ... and it's still dropping.0

Welcome to the new folks. We're glad you've found us! Feel free to jump in a post away!
I'm just stopping in for quick check, before I continue with my Saturday chores/errands. I'll pop back in later and try to respond in more detail!
Have a great Saturday everyone!!
Cheers,

today's Saturday morning outdoor track work out, 730am outside temp 74, high today around 90
blood sugar was 74 this morning
90 minutes outdoor track
run 10 100 yards each
walk 2 knee raises 100 yards each
walk 2 fist jabbing 100 yards each
long stride walk 100 yards
baby step walk 100 yards
total walk, run, jog was 3 miles
drove to gym and did 15 minutes suana
variety in doing the outdoor track makes it seems like your not doing 1 thing for a long time.
feeling real good, i do not work out like a maniac, i make sure i read my body for aches and pains during the workout, i slow down and speed up, my final measurement is to do the 3 miles however long it takes.0 -
Lots of new people have joined us since I left for my conference. Welcome! Well I need to get back on track tomorrow and workout and eat right. Too much restaurant food, bad meals at conference, and not enough exercise... I don't like the way I feel right now. So a good night's sleep and ready, set, go!0
-
Welcome to all newcomers...this is a friendly and helpful bunch : ) I myself was diagnosed 22 feb of this year and am still learning but things have been getting a bit better...not in such a tizzy about what to eat...although i do still have days where i just draw a blank...lol Enjoy your stay on MFP and once again...welcome!0

Okay I'm working to get my discipline back! I walked 3 brisk miles with my Leslie Sansone DVD and did strength training as part of that walk with resistance bands. Worked up a dripping sweat and used my muscles. I feel better already. I'm going to be diligent in my logging and food choices today and get back to trying to balance my carb intake better (I struggle with this at times). So here's to a new week and I hope you all are feeling supported on this thread as a place where we all struggle with the same stuff! Here's to us:drinker: !0

Had a nice time at Kew Gardens today. We walked a couple of miles and took a lot of great pictures.
My numbers are still looking good, I just hope that the scale moves in the direction I want it to, my weigh in is tomorrow.
I hope everyone has been enjoying their weekend!

Wow the week is flying by. Very busy in the evenings so just managed to squeak in a 3 mile walk tonight. I'm looking forward to cleaning out my gardens this weekend. I hope it stays warm. Trying to get my carb balance and calorie intake under control. A few splurges this week due to not being organized with meal planning. Ugh!

I was just having a conversation with a friend about meal planning, hectic schedules and stress. Her husband has diabetes and she recently quit her full time job to pursue some more creative ventures (she is a musician at heart). Her hubby went to his doc and his A1c was way out of control. So they are putting a plan in place to work together on meal planning.
I would love for the rest of the world to understand how disciplined one has to be, in many areas, to manage diabetes. I particularly would like for all the physicians who treat diabetics to live like one, if only for a year! Every time I heard my former doc say "All you have to do is..." I wanted to scream!
Ok, done venting now!
I hope everyone is having a great week!!

When life is too busy it gets very hard to plan meals and have what you need on hand. We try to plan and shop on the weekends but I was gone last weekend.
I have to say even though my doctor is teeny and very fit she is very supportive. Diabetes is a specialty interest area for her and I wonder if she was born with it or maybe a family member has it.
Well Zumba tonight so I'll be glad for a good calorie burn!
Have a nice day...

What's up, peeps? This thread has gone quiet. Let's hear how everyone's doing!!0

Hi everyone I'm back on track! Work and home life have been very busy and stressful so I had to focus on that but now all feels more calm. I'm back to my exercise which helps me feel good and working on making better food choices. Very lazy today and planning to read for enjoyment. House needs cleaning but it can wait until I clean for Easter...
Hope you are all well. Weather stinks in Minnesota this weekend, snowed last night! No yard work or gardening as of yet but look forward to it if it warms up.

BLOOD SUGAR running low in the 60s due to night eaten enough and an adjustment in meds is due.
walked 3 miles outdoor track, legs still hurting from previous track workout
did Dumbbells, tried to do a pullup and will start 100 pushup and 200 crunches challege this week..0 -
Yesterday I decided to jog on the track and do a jog-walk-jog-walk combo. Whole different feel from my exercise videos and indoor workouts. Need to work up the distance. I'm very sore today so don't know if my knees can handle it or not. I'm thinking of buying a punch card to the middle school pool so I can swim laps at least one night a week over the summer. That will be a nice change and not so hard on my joints. Blood sugar before breakfast this morning 104.
Have a nice day.
Jenny:bigsmile:0 -
i did the outdoor track a week ago, jog/walk and did 3 miles, overdid it and it took a week for my legs to feel better, tha on friday i walked only 3 miles, and my legs are feeling wobbly, so i guess i will need to build up leg strength, but i will be sticking to the outdoor track until i know that i just can't do it..0

i've been reading almost everyone's post on this thread. and it's very motivating and positive. i need to hear this today.
i was diagnosed in 2008, going thru fertility tests. the doctors have stopped going further for treatment until my diabetes is managed. well....it's 2011. and no baby.
it gets super frustrating.
i need to get back on track. not for any baby...but for myself. my health.
tomorrow is a new day.0 -

Glad you found us. It is incredibly frustrating trying to manage all aspects of our lives and maintain some sense of balance. Try to think of each day as "practice." Like any learning any other skills, we improve with practice. Just keep at it!!0 -
reading this morning was 116 (blood sugar) after my morning workout (1 hr of Zumba). i was so inspired to get back on track, i pre-packed all my meds (i'm so bad at remembering to take them) and took my blood sugar this morning. hope to do better today than yesterday.0
