How is the 100 mile's in 70 days Challenge coming along? ive had a little bit of trouble with it. Havent been able to get out like ive wanted to lately.

Show your St Patty's day spirit this week... Let the Irish in you be seen.. :)

Challenge 1 – Week 5
(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s day, try a new green food. Whether its a fruit or vegetable. Try a new green food. Share what you come up with. Can’t want to see what everyone comes up with. Thanks for the idea sis (Tannie)

Challenge 2 – Week 5
(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s Day, Eat a totally green dinner on St Paddy's Day! For example, last year I had Spinach Fettucine Noodles with Pesto sauce (I'd have to find a healthy recipe this year ) and a green salad with green bell pepper, avocado, cucumber, and a cilantro dressing. Green veges are great for a healthy diet--here is a link to a few simple reasons why: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_are_green_vegetables_good_for_you Thanks for the idea Emily

Challenge 3 – Week 5
(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s Day, Post a picture of something green that means something to you. You can take a picture of it, or find it online. Gives us a chance to get to know each other just a little more.

Challenge 4 – Week 5
(03/13) - Remember at least three things, daily, that makes you happy. You can post them if they want, but don't have to if the happy is too personal. It is so easy for us to get wrapped up in the negative things that irk us, but if we only focus on the bad we'll never allow ourselves to see the good. – Thank you Pinky for the idea.

Challenge 5 – Week 5
(09/13) – Hide your scale after weigh in this week. I know some hate this, but I thought Id bring it back for a week. I know it helps some. Maybe fooling ourselves will help us lose more weight.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK – “"Success is getting up one more time than you fall down.” -Author Unknown

I hope you all enjoy this weeks challenges.. Let the Irish in you be unleashed, in a healthy way that is. :) If you get all decked up for St Patty's day post your picture on here.. :) Enjoy your week.. Stay focused.

Until next week - April Val

For those that have missed it, I have my scale back. Weighed in this morning at 365.6. Thats almost 20 lbs in 4 weeks. My normal weigh in days will be Thursdays though since thats when I weighed in last week at the doctors office. I wanted to get in my 4 week anniversary today though.

I already tried my green food, You can find my review of it here. http://fatsucksamonkeysbutt.blogspot.com/2011/03/kale-for-sale.html

I am not going to have an all green meal. However I am going to have a traditional irish dinner of Irish Stew and colcannon. I might even try my hand at making some traditional Irish Soda Bread for dessert...

    Challenge 3 – Week 5
(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s Day, Post a picture of something green that means something to you. You can take a picture of it, or find it online. Gives us a chance to get to know each other just a little more.

Im not sure if I have anything green that means anything. Not at this point. I will tell you what is green that means something to me though. The entrance to Pokagon State Park. When you turn the corner past the sign, there is a beautiful array of green foliage that greets your eyes with the road winding through the middle of it. Sometimes you might see a deer or other wildlife, but for the most part it is still. And it seems like the only place in the world. Its like you are IN another world. To me it reminds me of family and good times. I love going there and passing that familiar stretch of road to show my kids the magic of that place. I wish we were going there for the old reunions like we used to, but those are a thing of the past. Still, its a good feeling to pass through all that lovely greenery to get to the heart of the park.

I usually try to do this anyways because if I dont I get wrapped up in all thats wrong and end up depressed.

    Challenge 5 – Week 5

Ive done without my scale so far, I think I can handle this.

:drinker: Happy week 5 everyone!! :drinker:

    Challenge 1 – Week 5
I'm gonna have to think about this one, I've had many green foods, I may have to stroll the grocery store and see what I've missed...

    Challenge 2 – Week 5
Not sure I'll get the hubby in on this one and dinner is the only meal we have together throughout the week. While it may not be green, tradition in Nick's family is the Grandpa makes corned beef and cabbage every year, this is the first year without him so I'm not sure what we're doing for St Patrick's Day yet.

    Challenge 3 – Week 5
This is another one I'll have to think about, nothing 'green' comes to mind right away. I'll have to post this one later.

    Challenge 4 – Week 5
Today's things that made me happy... having a decent lunch with all the in laws, seeing a friend I haven't in a few months, seeing my hubby drink water instead of soda

    Challenge 5 – Week 5
I have to weigh in mid week for another thread, so I'm not sure how well I'll be on this one..

Hope you all had a good weekend. Mins had it's stressful moments as my in laws are fully moved in across the street (Grandpa/ma's house) and it's been interesting. I ran my 2nd 5k of the year yesterday and beat my time by a minute. Hoping to break into the 30's this coming Saturday with my 3rd 5k. Even if it's 39:59, I'll be happy! Oh, and random, but I get to try Thai food tomorrow for the first time ever, and I can't wait!! Here's to a great week! :drinker:

Will weight in Tomorrow morning and start off the week with all those wonderful challenges. I'm already looking forward to eating green... that's a GREAT idea! Actually, they say the more color you can add to your diet the better... because fruits and veggies tend to be the most colorful. Maybe I'll start tracking my food by color.. hmmm... haha :-)

ooh- again good challenges this week- I will definitely be celebrating St. Patrick's day this week but maybe not all green - either corned beef and cabbage or Irish Lamb Stew but I will try to get some green in for certain- I did pack a green salad today to go along side a small square of lasagne for lunch

As mentioned this saturday, since I was away I had not had a chance to try last week's challenges- so yesterday I pulled out my two WW dvd's that have a yoga/pilates section on them- succesfully did one, succesfully did part of the other- I definitely need to improve my flexibility (I already knew that though) so I will keep those in the mix :-) and I also did a short pilates video from youtube!

    :-)

I hope everyone has a great start to their week!

Blah - down 0.3lbs this week. Not thrilled with that though because I really thought this was water retention, but I guess I just have to own up to the fact that it is not....going to have to get back on track from exercising. It is where I have really been falling short - deadlines at work have just kept me too busy.

Hey everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! Mine was very work-out filled, which is great for me since I usually slack on the weekends. The only down side is that I ate a LOT of food, and even though I stayed below my calories every day and burned almost 2000 calories in 3 days, I am still freaking UP weight this morning. I am not pleased. But, I am not letting it get me down. I went to the gym at the ungodly hour of 5 this morning and am meeting with my personal trainer and a nutritionist tomorrow so hopefully I can get over this hump! It seems every time I am close to breaking a barrier (say, 240, 230 lbs) I get stuck. Anyway...

How is the 100 mile's in 70 days Challenge coming along?
    * I'm doing well on this, actually. I have been going about 2 miles a time on the treadmill/elliptical every time I go to the gym, and yesterday I did a 2.5 mile jog/walk. It's starting to add up!

    Challenge 1 – Week 5
(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s day, try a new green food. Whether its a fruit or vegetable. Try a new green food. Share what you come up with. Can’t want to see what everyone comes up with. Thanks for the idea sis (Tannie)
*Ooooh, new green food! That should be fun. I am trying corned beef and cabbage for the first time, we'll see how that goes!

    Challenge 2 – Week 5
(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s Day, Eat a totally green dinner on St Paddy's Day! *Love it!

(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s Day, Post a picture of something green that means something to you. You can take a picture of it, or find it online. Gives us a chance to get to know each other just a little more.
    * I will have to look for something, and learn how to post a picture.

    Challenge 4 – Week 5
(03/13) - Remember at least three things, daily, that makes you happy. You can post them if they want, but don't have to if the happy is too personal. *I like this one. Will have to think of things...

    Challenge 5 – Week 5
(09/13) – Hide your scale after weigh in this week. I know some hate this, but I thought Id bring it back for a week. I know it helps some. Maybe fooling ourselves will help us lose more weight.
*Grrr. I'm pretty sure I am weighing in with my trainer tomorrow, but after that I will TRY to stay away. I'm addicted, LOL!

Good Morning!! I was quite unexpectedly shocked with the scales this morning = 180.6. That's down 1.2 since last week. I also lost 2.75 inches last week. I'm so thankful!!!!!!  So I have lost 9.2 lbs since the thread started. Thank you SO much for the support, Ladies!!!

As for the challenges for this week:

Challenge 1: I'll have to scan the produce section to find a new green food this week - I'll let you know.

Challenge 2: I had already thought of a green meal for that day. I think the kids will love it....or not!

Challenge 3: Yep, I know just the thing. I'll post a picture this week if I can figure it out.

Challenge 4: I'm thankful the scales were down today. I'm happy to see hubs WANTING to exercise and focus on his health more. I'm thankful for 5 healthy kids.

Challenge 5: Nooooooooooooo - not again. I nearly died the last time! I'll try my best.

I like the quote of the week! Thanks, April, for all the work you put into these.

Have a safe and happy Monday, Ladies - we're covered in snow again today. :noway:

    Challenge 1 – Week 5
This might be a hard one... I love most everything green so maybe I might have to revisit one I haven't had in awhile.

    Challenge 2 – Week 5
I don't know that my entire meal will be green but it will sure be fun trying. I usually have the corned beef and cabbage but hubby works that day so we will have it on the weekend.

    Challenge 3 – Week 5
Will get a pic up....perhaps the green grass and trees I have been waiting for? Spring...HURRY!

    Challenge 4 – Week 5
I, too, like to stay away from negativity. Unfortunately, when others around me are negative, I start to soak it up like a aponge, especially if I am having a bad day.
Three things that make me happy....spending time with my hubby (working different shifts limits our time), laughing with my friends, being goofy with my daughter. Everything else is just added pleasures!

    Challenge 5 – Week 5
My scale is not hidden...it just likes to taunt me. But Monday is the only day I jump on it.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK – “"Success is getting up one more time than you fall down.” -Author Unknown

Love the quotes April...I am a big quote junkie!

Thanks for all the hard work you put into these challenges! You do an awesome job!

Last week was a little better for me. I did not log everyday...missed them at the end. Increasing my moving time. I did not lose this week but I did not gain either. Still struggling with late day eating...start out good but fall off at the end. Everyday is a new beginning so I am not going to beat myself up. I was reviewing my progress last year at this time and this is exactly where I kicked it into gear. I starterd my journey really slow then sped up as Spring approached. So, we will see how it goes. I have seen how some of my friends here are really doing well...gotta some catching up to do.

    Have a wonderful week everyone!

  • Challenge 1 – Week 5
I will try to find something that I haven't tried.

    Challenge 2 – Week 5
We will probably do corned beef & cabbage

    Challenge 3 – Week 5
I will try to get this done! I love to take pictures, but finding green might be a challenge right now!

    Challenge 4 – Week 5
This one will be helpful to me right now.

    Challenge 5 – Week 5
I still can't do this one. I never have a good outcome when I don't have the accountability of daily weigh-ins. :blushing:

Thank you April and all of the contributors for the great challenges! It should be a fun week!

Congratulations on the losses!!!! Even if it is "only a little bit", if we keep with it all of those little bits really add up!!!!!!

    Have a spectacular week everyone!

Down 0.6 this week... eh, it's a loss, so it counts. Still going in the right direction sloowwwlllyyy...

    1) My new green food this week so far has been raw broccoli. I've always eaten it cooked. Also green pepper just raw. I normally put it in salads or cook it with something, but to just munch on raw veggies is something I don't normally do... except carrots. :-P

    2) The green meal for St Pat's... FUN! Haven't figured out what I'll do, but something along the lines of a big salad, chicken breast, and maybe some steamed green veggies. Last year we even put green food dye in the mashed potatoes...

    3) Picture of something green... Foliage-bundle-200.jpg This is a picture of a collection of green fabric. It's not one that I own - looked it up online - but it means something to me right now. I'm learning to sew... from my grandmother. She and my great grandmother were quilters, and so far I'm the only on in the past two generations who's taken an interest and have asked to learn. It's a slow process, but I'm loving it!

    4) Three things that make me happy: On SPRING BREAK!, I'm able to wear my "skinny clothes" again and they're getting too big, and thankful for an awesome husband.

    5) Hide the scale huh? I'll try my best, but like others have said, it really helps to keep me accountable!

This week for St. Paddys day, Iève decided to stay away from the green meals, but I will try for a healthy green dessert instead :) My meal idea for the day is Braised Guiness Beef Stew with Whole Grain Irish Soda Bread. I figured it would be worth trying to combine my green food with the dessert and have found a recipe that is called Avocado Whip - the base recipe is 148 but because of lent, I will not be adding the sugar, but splenda instead.....we will see what DH thinks of it. Avocados are especially good for women with PCOS (or so I have been told. I am not a fan, so if I enjoy dessert, avocados will start coming in this house!!!) If you wanted to have green mashed potatoes, add lots of broccoli to it and then whip it (whip it good! LOL) and they will take a pretty green tint.

The whole fancy meal should be around 560 cals and be incredibly filling (I am actually wondering whether the soda bread will be overkill....might steer away, there are plenty of rib sticking ingredients in the stew. The stew is 350 cals, plus 150 cals for the dessert plus 60 cals with the bread.

I made a killer chicken stock this weekend. I love making own and adding everything but salt to it (my favourite is summer savory - I put almost a quarter cup in the entire thing. I had a cup as a snack and it is yummy ummy ummy!!! And....I actually took my walk tonight (just 30 minutes), but I figure now that the weather is nice....I can actually get out there nightly and blast away 30 minutes at a time. I should still meet the 100 miles

How is the 100 mile's in 70 days Challenge coming along? Not doing the greatest on this one. Wish the weather would make up its mind what its going to do.

    Challenge 1 – Week 5
(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s day, try a new green food. Ill have to see what I can find. My family is very picky eaters so it might have to be something on my own.

    Challenge 2 – Week 5
(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s Day, Eat a totally green dinner on St Paddy's Day! This probably wont happen unless hubby is gone lol. He is the pickiest of them all...even over the children lol.

    Challenge 3 – Week 5
(03/13) – In honor of St Patty’s Day, Post a picture of something green that means something to you. Got something in mind just have to get a pic of it.

    Challenge 4 – Week 5
(03/13) - Remember at least three things, daily, that makes you happy. Ill work on this and maybe post depends.

    Challenge 5 – Week 5
(09/13) – Hide your scale after weigh in this week. Ill hide after weigh in tomorrow or wednesday. I only weigh in once a week for the most part anyways.

Hello all! Checking in with a 1.8 pound loss this week! YAY!!! This challenge is really helping to keep me motivated. I appreciate all that goes into it!!!

Ok, here's me for the week...

How is the 100 mile's in 70 days Challenge coming along? Doing great with this one, almost half way there and plenty more coming up on the training plan for the 10k!

    Challenge 1 – Week 5
I'm not sure what I will try, but I'll see what I can find when I shop on Thursday!!!

    Challenge 2 – Week 5
Wow, not sure that one will happen... my kids would freak if I made them eat more green stuff, but I'll check out the website and see if anything sounds good!

    Challenge 3 – Week 5
Something green that means something to me... I'll have to think on that one!

    Challenge 4 – Week 5
This is a terrific idea! Not sure if I'll post them every day, but I will definitely make a list for myself! Today I'm thankful for the fact I have my voice (almost) back to normal, and that I have a good and busy job, and that my Easter dress from several years ago fits me again!!!! (tried it on this morning on a whim and it's awesome!)

    Challenge 5 – Week 5
Not a problem for me, I usually only weigh in on Thursday's anyway. I think it's good for me not to obsess, but I understand those who use it more frequently as a tool, remember it's not a judge!!!!

QUOTE OF THE WEEK – “"Success is getting up one more time than you fall down.” -Author Unknown

What a great quote! Sure feels like I'm getting up again, hopefully for the last time!!!!

Ok, have a great week.. I'll post again tomorrow after my two mile run and session on the weights at the gym! The weather is finally looking warmer this week, so I can't wait to run outside and plan to do just that as much as I can!

Happy week 5, lovelies! I'll get back in here and comment but for now wanted to get my happies written down...hubby and I have been playful with each other all day, we did a great job cleaning up the jungle that is our back yard and it is nearly usable again, and saw THE CUTEST "wipe your paws" bear statue that I just can't stop thinking and grinning about. Ceelovejay - thanks for the encouragement and good luck with Insanity. I understand about the panting part.

    Three things I'm happy about:

    1. Happy that it's not snowing today.
    2. Thankful for my five children - if I didn't have them, I may have to sleep all night without waking up...can you imagine that??
    3. Happy to know that Spring starts SUNDAY!!!!!!!

Happy Tuesday, Ladies!! Keep up the good work.

Im soo happy there has been a change in that.. :) Im atleast out of the 310's for good.. :) I wanna make sure im FAR away from the 300's as possible.. Heres to a good week. Ready to go sweat. Going to take a shower and wear workout clothes to moms, since im going to be on the treadmill and elliptical machine.. :)

Congrats bjsjooter for being a size 12! That's awesome! And your littles are too adorable!!

Glad to see you are maintaining April! Keep it up! It took me awhile to stay under 200 after I went under the first time, I kept bouncing around. Enjoy your walk today!! It's in the 30s/40s here and I just got back from one..still thawing out my toes! Have fun on the elliptical! I think that's my fave thing, I just need to get one!

Thank you and well done April. I find that I strugle around the big landmark weights. We do stones in the UK and I am 1lb under 11 stone and I have been wiggling around there for ages (because I am dying to get away from it). Its a mental block I reckon. When you get to a few pounds away and you feel safe again, it stats to come off faster.
