I may not be losing weight, but I measured for the begining of the shred and lost a 10 inch total :O Happy with that.

I actually did 2.6 miles on the elliptical today in 25 minutes, which I am really really happy with. I had no idea I could go that fast! It's amazing what I can do when my knees aren't yelling at me like they are on the treadmill. Loving it.

Just some friendly advice. I just did what you are doing. Pushed myself on my cardio. Check your Heart Rate while doing so. If you are over 80% of your Maximum HR, you are OUT of the FAT BURNING zone. When you do that, you are burning a large % of available carbs and not FAT. From how my Personal Trainer (she is also a licensed Physical Therapist and mostly deals with training people with injuries - I have a bad knee!) explained it to me... it takes 20 minutes in your fat burn zone for your body to adjust and actually kick in to using fat stores for energy. So everything after that is gravy. My HR was going into the 160s when I was doing cardio... WAY over my fat burn zone. So using up the available carbs... I was STARVING afterward! I was craving carbs... no wonder, eh?!

I hope I have explained this well enough to help you! Talk to your trainer... maybe (s)he can explain it better!

See I've been wondering about this. The machine does yell at me when I go above 130 bpm but OMG that is SO SLOW. I literally don't go above 2.0-3.0mph when I am in the "fat burning zone" according to the machine. I don't break a sweat or get out of breath at all, HOW is that working me out? 155 is supposed to be my "endurance training zone" which I've read means that I am burning more calories and 50% of them are fat calories, and even that is hard to stay under. I just hate feeling like I am not doing anything. I work out usually on an empty stomach, (right when I wake up) I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not? Honestly, if I am doing myself a disservice, I'd like to know so any info is great! Maybe I'll ask my trainer about it tomorrow as well.

Trying not to get down on myself today. I didn't want to face the yucky weather we had yesterday so I did a little 30 minute workout here at home and I think I pulled something... my lower back and hip are all screwed up and very painful! I went to the chiropractor after lunch today and she put me back together and will see me again on Wednesday, but I'm still pretty sore! The part that kills me is, I signed up for a 5k for tomorrow evening! I really want to do it, even if I have to walk it, but to stay on my training plan for my 10k is a little worrisome to me! I've been killing every run and don't want to fall behind!!!! If I have to take a week off that might just kill my momentum!!! I'm scared!

Hoping I feel better tomorrow... but until then... My happies are 1) getting a tax refund soon, 2) NBC is back on Dish Network (well, it was last week, but I'm using it tonight) and 3) My ice pack seems to be helping my pain.

I know, they're lame, but I'm trying to make some lemonade here out of a lemony day!!!!

You are right, it DOES feel slow, but it is MORE effective at burning fat. In the fat burn zone you are burning something like 85% fat. THAT is what you want to do, right? Lose fat? Well, that's MY goal anyway!! If you are in the cardio training zone you are burning something like 85% carbs, 5% fat... and whatever else. I don't know the EXACT percentages, but these are pretty close.

But if I were you, I would talk to your trainer about it. It will probably be explained better!!

As you become more cardiovascular fit, it will take more to raise your heart rate. Alternate your work outs between fat burning and cardiovascular training or do sprints (similar to the C25K program), where you keep your heart rate down for 5 minutes and the run as fast as you can for 1. That will give you a "workout" like you're hoping for plus let your body relax a little and get used to the cardio workout. It's kind of a double edged sword - you need to go quicker to get your heart used to it, but it's either upping your endurance (cardio) or burning lots of fat....if you alternate them, you'll get the best of both worlds. I am at my FB zone at about 3.0mph and my brother who was a trainer needs to get to about 6.0/6.5 to get to the same range......he's way more cardiovascularly fit than I am so his heart can handle the sustained pressure with ease.

Cazzincali and Pam: THANK you for the advice! I am going to talk to my trainer today - she's an endurance runner herself - and get a program set up for myself. I had no idea! It makes me mad, though, to think that I have been working on cardiovascular health for nearly 5 months now and I'm still so out of shape, that's frustrating! But you both helped put it in perspective so thank you for that!

You are right. My son is 28... and a cop... and plays soccer on a men's league... and he could spend hours on an elliptical and never feel as if he got a workout. However, when he runs on the treadmill, he can get his HR up. As you get more fit, it takes more to get your HR up. I am experiencing this as well. When I first started, I would get on the stationary bike and get my HR up in 5 mins. NOW... it takes more like 20-30 mins at a fast pedal!! I was told to try for the top end of my FBZ to increase CV fitness.

I missed last week's challenges and wasn't able to workout at all because I was quite sick. I had to take a couple of days off work, but with the miracle of antibiotics I'm feeling much better. I worked out yesterday and today and I felt great! I want to lose another two pounds before the end of the month, when I meet with my trainer again.

I'm sure this weeks' challenges will be helpful - thanks April for the great ideas!

Has anyone on here done the 30 day shred? I have the DVD but no hand weights yet. I'm going to get some at Walmart and plan to start the DVD this weekend. Any comments or advice?

Yes, pace yourself. You may want to watch it first to get an idea of what to expect. You will probably feel like you are gonna die, push through it as best as you can, of course, without injury. YOu may want to only do 2 days for the first week, then 3 the following. I started with 2, then 3 for 2weeks and then I went 17days straight :) You may not see much for scale results, but you should see it in INCHES. Make sure you take measurements before starting so you can compare. I managed to lose 9inches when I did it and about 3lbs. Good luck!

Back is still messed up... so no 5k for me tonight. The weather really stinks again anyway, so maybe it's better I stay warm and dry. Trying not to let it get me down, but I hate pain.

Also trying to think of my happies for the day... let's see...
    1) today would have been my Grandpa's 92nd birthday (I miss him so much)
    2) got good news at work today that next week we are getting a much anticipated new piece of equipment!
    3) I remembered to get milk at the store before coming home from work so I'll have breakfast in the morning.

Yup, nothing special, but I'm trying to look on the bright side, and being it pain it's kind of hard!

I need to catch up in here! And on my happies...

Sunday - the weather was fascinating to watch, napping and snuggling under blankets all day was wonderful, got a little photography practice in as I tried to take pictures of the moat that had taken over our front yard.

Yesterday - finally got to see one of my movies before it left theaters ("Cedar Rapids"), had delish shawerma dinner, and while I wanted a chocolate chip cookie as a late night snack I ate an apple instead.

Today - the weather is gorgeous, found some non-acetone polish remover so I can do my nails (I've got gel nails on and I can paint over them as long as I don't use acetone, which would weaken and start removing them), and...I'll fill in the third happy as the day goes on. :)

pinky, I LOVE the new profile pic!! So pretty!

My happy of EVERY day: I'm alive and breathing! I wake up every morning and give glory to God for allowing me the opportunity to see another day. That's my fuel to go on throughout the rest of the day as well.

Next very small happy: I bought a pretty expensive bag of Starbuck Sumatra ground coffee yesterday and when I got home last night, I couldn't find it (I bought it during my lunch break at work). All the other groceries I bought made it home but not that. So, I get to work and look in the kitchen to see if I had left it there. Didn't see it. While making my coffee, I looked up behind the tea bags and THERE IT WAS! Now, I can have my Sumatra at home as well as at work. Mmmm.

Third happy: I'm still working pretty hard doing Insanity and am loving every single second of it.

Cee, thank you!! <3 Your positivity in simply waking up to live another day is something we should all strive to remember.

Wednesday Weigh-In for me...and my Lenten promise has come back to bite me in the *kitten*. I'm clocking in at 169.4. I'm one pound up from my (cheat) weigh on Thursday. If I had stuck to my word, I would be showing a 0.4 loss instead of a 1.0 gain. Big Kahuna in the sky, I see your point! :)

Oy sorry for the double post ladies. I was posting from my phone and the wi-fi connection was a little squirrelly. But I did want to say that I got back on the scale after waking up (I got on the scale when I woke up after about 5 hours of sleep) from my full amount of rest, and I'm officially recording 168.8. Still up, but it is a happier number. And it just goes to show that getting your full nightly rest really DOES affect your weight.

JeninBelguim - In Leslie's ab mile, does she make you do a lot of those knee lift with opposite arm crossing over your body?

    Hey everyone!

I've been MIA yet again... hopefully, you will all be seeing more of me now. My Grandpa went back to Florida for another month so now I won't feel so guilty about sitting in my room on the computer, or taking off to go to the gym instead of being home spending time with Grandpa...

I'm in the process of trying to find a place of my own to rent... my daughter's mood swings are really getting to my Grandpa. She is so stressed due to the divorce, not having many friends at school (I've heard this school is hard to transfer into because they don't accept the outsiders all that well...not like it was back when I was in school...wish I'd have known that before putting her in this school) and not getting to see her dad much... then to top it off her Boyfriend accepted an offer to a University out of state...so he will be leaving after he graduates....

I go to court on May 2nd for my divorce hearing. I hope it's finalized then, because at least then I will know what I will be getting out of the settlement and hopfully it will make getting a place of my own easier...

Well, I've not done a lot of working out, though work has been BUSY! I've taken on added responsibilities so getting more hours, which means more physical activities!

Today I was determined to workout...planned on an hour, but did 3 of Coach Jill's videos off of the Sparkpeople site... they kicked my butt! Plus I did between 5-10 minutes of strength training before the cardio videos...

Using the workout to steps equivalent charts, I managed to get in 6955 steps... or 3.48 miles in just 40 minutes... ;)

Hope everyone is doing well with your challenge. I know I have ALOT of catching up to do!

OK, but promise me that if your knee is still hurting in a few days that you go see a pro?

Ladybu, wow you have been busy! Sorry your daughter is having a rough time at school. Mean kids are just the worst. Hope your court date, and finding a new place to live, both go smoothly!

    My Wednesday dose of happy:
-it is a wonderfully rainy day again
-I got a sample package in the mail (tampons, pads, and deodorant...yeehaw! ). I love getting free samples!
-I'm doing virtual window shopping on two of my favorite sites and finding TONS of cute things (bravissimo.com - they have a new clothing line, and yandy.com - they just put a ton of lingerie and costumes on 50% off clearance...early Halloween costume shopping anyone?
  • Just dropping in to say hello!!!!! I am still doing well with eating and P90X, but my house is being remodeled and it makes getting on the computer a lot harder.

I am still reading when I can and cheering everyone on!!!!!
