(03/27) - Walk, Jog, Run, Ride, ect 7 miles this week. We are coming up towards the end of our walking challenge. Maybe this will help push some of us that are struggling. Working on it every day. I walk probably 2-3 miles with playing with my kids lately.

    Challenge 2 - Week 7
(03/27) - Up your water intake by ATLEAST 1 glass, unless you already have a high glass intake. Then keep steady with your high water intake all week. Add flavor to it if you can't seem to drink water straight. I drink all water and have for years so Im good here

    Challenge 3 - Week 7
(03/27) - Meditate for atleast 70 minutes total for the week. ( 10 minutes daily ).. Meditate, or yoga you choose. Make the best of it. Wow, Id have to get up early and my body doesnt like that. Not unless there is money involved...

Wow, I am digging all of the great news that is swirling around in here! You ladies are all amazing.

I'm still riding the high after my first 5K last Sunday. Had a fantastic time. My endorphins were in high gear and I actually enjoyed the race! I wanted to keep going! At the finish line they gave us a medal and a piece of Knott's Berry Farm's famous boysenberry pie. Snoopy was even there at the start line to get us going! As soon as we got home I got to researching more races and have a giant list of ones that I'm interested in. Hubby and I are thinking of making the December half marathon in Las Vegas our goal, so we'll do a couple more 5Ks, then 10Ks, then a half here, and then finish with Vegas! Here's hoping we can make this all happen...when the hell did I get excited about running?!

Sweetie, I totally get where you're coming from!!! One year ago I couldn't run for 60 seconds... this weekend I did 7 miles! Training for the 10k is going SO well and I'm going to train for my first 1/2 after that! We have a local race in May that's a 25k (15 miles) but I'm thinking if the 1/2 goes well in September I'll train for that for next year. Most of the people I know who do that one are really hard core runners, so even thinking about it is really intimidating. Strange though, when I run I feel like I can do anything I want... it's such a great feeling! Somehow I start to really kick it in and I just blow through the miles... it's so addicting!!!! Good luck on the Vegas 1/2.. my Aunt (who's in her late 60's) did that one with a friend last year and would love me to do it with her but I'm going there for my friend's birthday in November and can't make another trip in December!!!! Sure would be fun to get a bunch of MFP runners together for an event... now where'd that thought come from????

Wow I am really impressed- congratulations on your losses and Pink ! Woot! on your race well done! and I hope you enjoyed every bight of the pie too!

Nikster- you will do great in the 10k- afterall you are already running 7 miles which is more than a 10k and well into your training for a half-marathon

as for me after I did my "required" walk last night for training - I still had some energy and it was still light out so I walked around 15 minutes more- who would have thought that I would ever do 15 minutes more than I was planning on doing?!

Cazz and bj: YAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Congrats on the losses, that is AWESOME! You are seriously bringing it.

Pink: Good for you for loving the 5k so much and for signing up for more! I know that running is addictive, the endorphins are KILLER! I might be in Vegas for the 1/2 marathon too....still contemplating it. I'm going to see how my 5ks this summer go. If we both go, we'll need to meet up! That would be cool!

I can feel your excitement in your post!! I'm so happy for and so proud of you!! I had planned on doing C25k while doing Insanity but my body didn't like that idea, so I try to run one day a week at least. I love the feeling it gives you. You know I'll be hardcore rooting you on every step of the way!!

Hello everyone! This week not so good for me...very bad eating habits, no logging my meals and exercise...well, if you count the running around at work?

I wanted to lose during this challenge but it doesn't seem that I will do much of that. I start out my week with the very best of intentions but fall back to old habits.
I have to get in my quit smoking frame of mind...I did so well with that. I used that same theory when I started to lose weight and it worked. Time to revisit I think. (quit in 2009...no wants for a smoke...why can't I do that with food..haha)
I have not been making many meals at home cause no one is here to eat them so I rely on out meals...huge downfall.
I am going shopping today...filling my fridge with the goodies I love that are also good for me. If my son and daughter want treats,,,,they will have to find them on their own. If there are cookies here, I will eat them. If you give me a bag of chips, I will eat them.

    Linda,

I don't know what kind of nursing you do... but one thing I DO know... when I worked in hospital, I ate horribly and irregularly. It seemed like the only time I could eat was when I was doing my charting! No REAL break time. Then the many years spent working in ER... we got our lunch break and I ate then... but not very well. The 12 hr shifts were killers! It messed up my body's eating clock!!

I am pretty much the same way with "bad for me" food. If there are chips or cookies around, I WILL eat them! So I don't buy them. My 11 yr old son complains, but I figure he can live without them too!

In any case... this has to be a lifestyle change. NOT a weight loss journey. It's a difficult paradigm shift. (At least for me, it is!) I have to see the weight loss as the bonus for changing my life and the relationship I have with food. (And I DO mean relationship!)

I have said before, I made myself fat. No one force fed me food. I did it. I may have had excuses, but that's all they are... excuses. I once called them REASONS, but hurting myself and making myself unhealthy is far from reasonable!! Today... I make the choice to be a better version of me. I will NOT be fat. It's my choice. I have to do the work. We all do...

I know what I have to do...I did this last year...dropped 35 lbs...felt better about myself. Winter gets to me and it is so easy to fall back into old habits and excuses.
I take my break at work and actually eat sensibly..soup and sanwich or salad. I even bring healthy snacks. It is when I am home that I totally graze! So, I have to buck up and do the right thing. I have to go back to how I was feeling last year at this time. I put up a pic of me after the loss so motivate. I am really just sick of this weather...work is more stressful, I work a post surgical unit (thanks sick people)...feeling some empty nesting (kids are older, dont need me or are not home)...hubby works a different shift so I miss him too. lat year he was off for a back injury and we started walking together..I enjoyed that time. now we don't always have that time. So when I am alone...I feel crappy and don't want to do anything. But not anymore. I cannot wallow in my pity...I need to get up and follow the very same advice I gave to others. Thanks cazz for the pep talk....

I totally understand the fast food thing because of it being just you. We used to do that too. It was easier to get my kids to eat McDs or pizza than it was to get them to eat a homemade meal. Since Ive switched to this lifestyle I rarely ever eat out. And when I do, Im bitterly disappointed. However, I know this is the right way to go from what my son said to me yesterday.

I said we had to leave the park we were at so I could go home and get the chicken in the oven and he asked "You mean we are having REAL chicken?!?!" I said yes and he said "AWW MAN!" He said it in a way as if I had just asked him to eat squid on a stick! He ate. And he ate good of all REAL food. So that tells me this is the way I need to be doing this. Motivation right there.

As for cooking for one, Ive done that. I will frequently cook stuff ahead and freeze it. That way I have an instant meal handy for those tough days when I dont feel like cooking or I am by myself. I learned to do that a long time ago when I had my daughter. Cooking ahead before she was born helped me alot because it allowed me to be prepared and healthy eating after with having a newborn and a 3 year old. Try cooking ahead.

aprildauer - Regarding your plateau, my only advice is to change it up. Our bodies adapt to whatever we do often, weather that be exercises or the kinds of food we eat a lot. So, start doing new things. Eat new foods (maybe a new amount), and try new exercises. You gotta shock your system and keep it guessing. You'll break your plateau!

Cazz - KILLER loss woman!! Fantastic work. You're showing the Slave Driver who's boss!!

Nikstergirl - It really is a fantastic feeling! The 25K sounds like a natural progression for you after decimating the half marathon. You should TOTALLY come out to Vegas in December anyway! There's no such thing as too much Sin City. ;) I've already got three friends signed up for it, and at least one who is going to go as a cheerleader, so while I'm finding the thought of 13.1 miles daunting, I'm just thinking how exhilirating it is going to be running under all of the neon and fantasticness that is Vegas! I love that city.

JeninBelguim - Your new profile picture is TOO cute! Love it! I ate as much of the pie as I could, but only got about a quarter of the way in. It was so very sweet, and the crust was absolutely scrumptious. WTG on keeping your walk going! 15 extra minutes is great!

ashley0616 - See you in Vegas!! Registration doesn't re-open until 5/31 so you have time to think about it. But I bet you'll be like me and you'll be registering for it the day they open it up. MFP Vegas meet-up!

ceelovejay - I love seeing you and your successes. I'm very happy that Insanity is working so well for you. Mixing cardio and strength, no wonder you're making those pounds melt away! I'm rooting for you too. :)

CrystalS - Have fun having your hubby around. Do you guys have any plans for your mini vacation?

AprilVal - So sorry to hear about your sad upcoming events. :( I hope your knee is back to normal.

tannie - at the "REAL chicken?!"

Hiya everyone! While I was pumped up and expecting a nice loss on the scale, I'm up 0.2, which is really a mantain. I'm not letting it get to me, though. My inches are down this week, and I'm feeling great. Those two things are more important than the number on the scale, so I'm going to keep on keepin' on. Hubby and I went for a 40 minute walk/jog on a nice hilly trail. I don't know how far we got since my GPS went all kinds of wonky with the mountains (said we'd done 9+ miles with a pace of 3:58...we're Kenyan Olympian runners don'tchaknow!), but it was probably in the neighborhood of 2.5 miles. Hubby is pushing me to do trails and to run sprints up a very steep (paved) hill to build my strength. He was on T&F in high school, so I believe him!

Have a great hump day, everyone!

OH, and if any of you wear glasses, I really have to suggest you check out coastalcontacts.com tomorrow. They're doing another 10,000 free glasses giveaway. As long as you choose regular lenses and a frame that is included in the promo, all you pay for is shipping. I got a great pair of glasses from them, and I know Bru did too. You get the coupon code from their facebook page (there's a tab for it on the left of their page) and then tomorrow you plug in the code at checkout and ta-da! Free name brand glasses coming right to you. Don't let the sourpuss comments on their facebook page bug you out. People get SO entitled and biitch about things that they have no reason to, they forget that this company is GIVING AWAY FREE GLASSES. People are nuts! LOL

the maintain is probably just your muscles holding onto water or some such thing- a couple of days after my husband does a race he always weighs a bit more (which I think is weird)

laughing at the Kenyan Olympian Runners Reference- on the walking/running/biking trail i use here in very flat Belgium there is a grop of African runners (not sure of their precise of origin though) that train onthe same trail that I waddle down- even when they are just doing their cool down/ warm up run chatting along they still fly past me like a speeding train- I like seeing them it's motivating for me- my husband not so much it depresses him a bit- but that's because he is trying to be fast- I am simply trying to walk my miles :-)

Yeah you're probably right. Hubby said that it could be the build-up of lactic acid; even he was surprised at first when I told him I was up a little. I found a picture of myself on a trail in the same area we were in today and did a side-by-side with the pic I took today, and it is a 20 pound and 8 month difference, and I can totally see changes. So, that's my weigh-in happy right there!

Wow on the African runners on your trail! Amazing that they can talk away while running like greased lightning. That's amazing endurance. You've definitely got the right frame of mind regarding their speed vs. yours. Boys are always trying to be competitive, aren't they? ;)

Pinky, thanks for the heads-up on CoastalContacts.com!! My S.O. wears glasses so I told him about it. Sweet deal!

Jen, LOL @ your hubby. Men and their competitiveness.

It is so cold, rainy and dreary outside today but I'm still in a great mood! I'm almost done with Week 3 of Insanity and was looking at myself with clothes on this morning and saw SUCH a difference. I think the reason why I don't see much of a change when I'm naked is because I still have rolls of fat and I am so focused on that that I can't tell that I indeed have made tons of progress. So, Cee in clothes = a happy girl!

    Enjoy your day, ladies!!

If you mean the "family pictures on the beach" in my profile, I'm not sure we're going to get to go. :ohwell: We've had a girl that has lived with us for a few years and she is in college in FL and going to graduate in May. We were planning on going down for that, but with the price of gas, hubby figured it up the other night and JUST the gas will be over $1,000 to get there. Not to mention food and lodging. :ohwell: I will probably just fly down myself (and the baby) to be at her graduation. I'm really bummed, but if that's what needs to happen, that's fine. We can still get family pictures on a creek bank somewhere and pretend it's the ocean, I guess.

Sounds like everyone's making GREAT progress this week. Hope to have a normal week next week.

Another great Thursday! My training program only called for 3 miles today which was a piece of cake. I ran up to my gym, so I could weigh in, and ran home! Awesome!!!! Ran some errands and picked up a few new tops... in a size MEDIUM!!!! Holy crap, I've never been a medium, even at this weight! The running is really changing my body shape and I love it!

Just a quick check in today.. too much to do but it's all fun stuff!!!! See ya!

Well, I did it. I changed my goal weight! I was within 10 pounds of my first goal as of this morning and the more I think about it, I know I've got another 5 on top of that to go. I may even go less than that if my body cooperates, but I went ahead and changed my goal weight to 135 instead of 140. That will put my BMI in the "normal" category, which I haven't been in since I started college!!!! Won't tell you how long ago THAT was!! LOL! To be honest, the last time I weighed 135 I was 19... and I'll be 39 in two weeks! Wouldn't it be great to look BETTER 20 years later???? I think I'm getting there... I love shopping now!

Cee, hope you were able to take advantage of the CC promo. If you didn't catch it, hopefully they'll have another giveaway soon. They've been doing quite a few of them in the last couple months. Fantastic news on seeing your physical changes! I know that you mean about focusing on things on our body which distract us from seeing the big picture. Happy Cee makes me happy!

Crystal, I meant that your hubby has a week off so it would be a mini vacay for you guys, but thanks for sharing your plans! Bummer that you all won't be able to go to the college graduation. :(

Nikster, you running fool! Gonna nick name you Roadrunner. You're always en route and on foot!

    AprilVal, *hugs* for you.

Wowzers it was a hot day here! It got up to 94 in my area and downtown LA even broke a high record temp - got to 92 degrees, the record was 90 degrees back in 1966. Talked to the owner of the scrapbooking store I worked at in high school and my first couple years of college, and I'm going to go back starting next month...er, this month...April! I'll just be part time and it isn't going to be a lot of hours, but it'll be nice to be getting paychecks and still have the time to do my Etsy store and work with my friend's business. And speaking of my Etsy store, I made some super cute octopus necklaces today! The supplies came in the mail today and I couldn't help but make something out of them right away. They're too damn cute! :D

OK, enough rambling. I need to get to my workout. Trying to decide what I want to do...I think it is a Leslie Sansone night.

Weighed in this morning. No loss, but no gain. I'm going to ask my trainer for my measurements to see how many inches I have lost since starting here as I know I have lost some since starting training. I'm in a lot of pain today, and quite frankly afraid of what she is going to put my legs through today! But I'll fight through because I know its good for my body to feel this way. Going to focus on water and protein the rest of the day to try to help my poor muscles out!

I am slightly frustrated with the scale right now, seeing as I have been working my *kitten* off in the gym for 2 weeks and nothing has budged. BUT I know that the workouts are building my muscles so I'm sure in a few weeks I will see something. At least, I am hoping so! I have a wedding to attend in less than 90 days and I really want a new dress for it!

Nikster, great job on the medium!!

Ashley, how are you feeling? I know the scale game can be frustrating as all heck, but focus on the fact that you're making progress and what you're doing to make you a better you instead! You'll get there, promise!

I'm actually feeling great. More flexible, stronger, better endurance, like I can do anything. I'm in a LOT of pain from this week's intense workouts, but what are you going to do, right? I think my main frustration is that I have lost 23 pounds and nothing seems to have changed. Pants don't fit better, I'm not in a smaller shirt. The only clothes difference I noticed was a dress wasn't quite as tight when I wore it recently compared to last August. However, there's no way in hell I'm giving this up. I've lost 23 lbs, I can lose another 23 lbs, and another! By then I'd better notice differences, LOL!

I'm still around..I've been lurking more than I've really been posting (in all my threads) ...Last month was full of stress but I gonna do what I can to rid myself of much of that stress. Starting with the scale. Aside from Easter weekend, I'm gonna do what I can to not weigh in til the end of the month. Another stress I'm gonna have to deal with is my in laws livin across the street. So far I haven't had any run-ins with them, so maybe it would be so bad...not gonna hold my breath! Another stress is going back to my old workplace from almost 2yrs ago. I start back at minimum wage (which is better than nothing but it still sucks) and I'm also part time. So maybe not being full time will be a little less stressful and maybe I won't care quite as much..I don't know. I'm trying to get things back on track. Some days are clear while others feel like I'm wading through swamplands. There are many other stress factors but I won't put a downer on everyone's day. I've got a lot on my plate and I'm trying to get it together. Either way, I'm gonna do my part to be less stressed and if it works into my favor, I may have my next mini goal (first ever massage) either this month or next. We'll see what happens. Good luck all, let's make April count!

Oh, and yes, coastalcontacts.com... awesome! I love my freebie glasses from there!

I love that you are approaching your teen weight and looking fitter now then you did then!

Thanks!!! It feels amazing... and I totally have all my MFP peeps to thank for their support!

Oh, and Roadrunner... I like that nickname!!! Thanks!
