    Hi!

Checking in for my spirit owl. I am doing good and avoiding the scale!!

Had a great dinner, we are got a sample box from a local produce coop to see if it is worth. BOY, it is totally worth it. Had a great salad, red onion, purple peppers and other veggies.

    Have a great night Ravenclaws
  • Hi guys. Just checking in! I'm surprised at how easy the sugar challenge has been easy for me. I thought I ate way more sugar than I do.

Let me tell you fellow Ravenclaws, it has been SO HARD for me to avoid the scale this week. I just want to know the numbers! While I have not caved to temptation yet, it is always present. I know that the scale is not the only thing that matters... but I just hate not having a mid-week check in to see if I'm on track.

As a side note, I've been going over on sugar every single day. Eugh. Tomorrow it is my personal goal to try and rectify that. Lol.

No run today- there was an "issue" with the alarm clock (must remember to kill my husband) and Ava didn't wake up for her morning nursing until 5:30am and by the time she was done it was too late to run/shower/and get to work on time, so I went back to sleep for 30 minutes! Gotta say not entirely unhappy about that!! Except that today is Open House tonight at school so there will be no walk tonight, which means NO EXERCISE today . . . umm how does that work?

    Today's Stats:
    Food: +1
Exercise: +1 (so glad tomorrow is weigh in day- this no scale thing is killing me!)
    Spirit: +1

    Weekly Stats:
    Owls: 14 House Points:272

I've been trying to strenthen my arms to be able to do pull-ups. I've never been able to do them even as a very active child. My attempts yesterday rewarded me with pulled muscles down both sides of my back today - owwwie!! I must be doing something wrong - I just can't get my feet to even leave the ground unless I do a little jump first. Anyone have any pointers for me??

I used to go to a gym that had a machine called a Gravitron (I kid you not). Basically an assisted pull up machine. You enter your weight and the difficulty level, an air compressor turns on and compensates the lift for your weight, and then you do your pull ups and dips. Basically, it lets you lift a percentage of your current weight. I liked it, because I could do all sorts of pull up variations I would never have been able to do normally, even in the best conditions. Unfortunately, it looked like a pretty expensive piece of equipment.

I did a quick Google search, and ran across this article which looks promising: http://kayak-fitness.kayaklakemead.com/pullups-for-beginners.html. The advice makes sense, though I haven't tried it. There are a ton of U-tube videos out there too, but I didn't spot anything I would recommend.

*Progress towards week of 9/11 OWLS -9/15 update*
    House Spirit (post ) - +4
    Food (sugar) - +4
    Exercise (Don't look at scale) - +4 - <--This is HARD!

    *September exercise minutes*
Month to date total = 290
    Week 9/11 to date total = 120
    9/15 exercise minutes - 30 min walking

Bad bad night last night. Probably brought on by too much overtime at work last night :( (extra 4 hours of work. blah.). Anyways, can't wait to get some good sleep today and hopefully get up tonight and make up for any mistakes I made.

So... I have finally discovered the reason that I go over on sugar every day... and it's name is HONEY! I've been a little under the weather, so I've been drinking a ton of tea. And I like my tea sweetened with honey... but that unfortunately means lots of sugar. Oh well!
  • failing miserably on sugar, been having an extra coffee every morning and since my coffee pot is broken I have been drinking terrible instant with sugar to make it palatable.
Still haven't stepped on the scale, it is sitting in the corner of the room taunting me, but I can hold off til I weigh in tomorrow.
I hope everyone else is doing well so far this week.

Hello Ravenclaw! Hope you all are having a fantastic Thursday! I've been doing ok with the scale (except the one day my cat sabotaged my efforts - lol!), the sugar challenge has been interesting - I'm doing better than I thought I was there!

In preparation for the beginning of weigh-in tomorrow, our Prefects have come up with the following challenges for next week.
    Food:
Read up on dietary fiber, set your MFP fiber goals appropriately for your needs, and then meet or exceed your fiber goal each day. Fiber supplements like Benefiber or Metamucil are acceptable sources of fiber. Note: fiber is a type of carbohydrate, so you might have to adjust your carbohydrate numbers overall to keep your protein and fat numbers steady.

    http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/fiber/NU00033
    http://www.webmd.com/diet/fiber-health-benefits-11/fiber-weight-control

    High fiber food suggestions:
    Oatmeal
    Raspberries
    Apples
    Flax seed meal

    http://www.weight-loss-advisor.com/weightlossarticles/fiber.htm
    And exercise:
Commercial Breaks- during a commercial break (or some other time) do the following set: 25 crunches, 25 jumping jacks, 10 squats, 10 walking lunges. Do that 3 times throughout the day and you get your exercise point!!!!! (so a total of 75 crunches, 75 jumping jacks, 30 squats, 30 walking lunges a day)

    Some evening silliness:

Sorting Hat Quizes: (I'm 3 for 3 Ravenclaw-I was sure I was going to be sorted into Slytherin at one point!)

    http://timidity.org/tests/sortinghat.html
    http://sorting-hat.com/sorthatq.htm

And exams for First through Fifth year:
    http://sorting-hat.com/exams.htm

I took the First year exam and scored a 94 (47 out of 50). I do not recall ever hearing/reading about the ingredients for a boil-curing potion. :grumble: I mixed up the leg-locker curse with the full-body bind and mistransfigured my mouse.

Oh well, I'll have to study harder for the Second year exam.

I took one of those sorting hat quizzes and came up ravenclaw too.

Doing good today on sugar - the scale thing is just a lost cause, I thought it wouldn't be too bad but it is. I like stepping on there. Dunno why.

Sadly, I'm too out of shape to do the exercise challenges (sad, I know, but true) so I'll be focusing on the fiber and spirit, I guess. :) I'll do as many of the exercise items as I can, but don't expect any owls for it.

Checking in for the day aside from that, and I just had to check out the HP sorting quizzes. I came out a Ravenclaw for 2 and Hufflepuff for one, which isn't terribly surprising (I usually refer to myself as a Ravenpuff). So, pretty happy. :) I like the first one a lot, although I was dangerously close to Hufflepuff on that one as well.

Daily Stats from 9/14 and 9/15:
    Food: 0
    Exercise: 2
    Spirit: 1
    House Points: 33

    Weekly Stats (week of 9/10 - 9/16):
    Food: 1
    Exercise: 4
    Spirit: 4
    House Points: 63

    1 OWL Exercise
    OWL Food/Water – No
    1 OWL Post
    House Points – 60

    Total OWLS – 13 , House Points - 470 hopefully added up correctly. :)

bookmarked for weekend silliness!! crossing my finger for Ravenclaw!! had a bit of a nsv last night. it was open house at school. last one as my daughter is a senior :ohwell: . anyway, i tend to run into people i've known for years but don't really see often except at this type of function and had several comments about my weight loss and a couple of folks that gave me the "full body look" without comment but had clearly noticed my loss. my ticker doesn't show it but i had lost some weight before discovering mfp so my total loss is actually 40lbs-quite noticeable. anyway, made me feel really good!! happy friday to all. :flowerforyou:

Just a question about the fiber challenge what exactly do we have to do? Also where can I find demonstrations and information about all of the exercises and are they all found on the exercise database? Thanks :)

Short answer - Track your fiber and meet or exceed your daily goal.

To change what nutrients are tracked in your Food Diary, go to your Food and Exercise Diary Settings at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings

Under Nutrients Tracked, use an empty category, select Fiber. from the drop down list, and then click OK.

You'll now see your Fiber counts calculated for you in your Food Diary.

If you want to change the amount of your daily fiber goal, go to your Your Fitness Goals page at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/my_goals

    Click Change Goals.

Click Custom, and then click Continue.

Fiber is on the left hand side, sixth from the bottom.

Update the amount for Fiber and then click OK.

    +1

Too much for my back and knees. I'll do what I can, but I won't be collecting any OWLs either.

    Food- +1
    Spirit- +1

    Weekly Stats
    Owls: 16
    House Points: 300 even

Now on to a new week of exercise and food challenges!!!! The food one will be tough- I definately don't get enough dietary fiber- but I'll see what I can do.

I sooooo wanted to step on the scale this morning. Sue, this has been is a pretty good challenge! Easy, but hard!

Today I go sit in on the Records Custodian Deposition for my case. I hope it is uneventful. I'm not looking forward to it because I'll meet the defendant and the defendants attorney.

*Progress towards week of 9/11 OWLS -9/16 update*
    House Spirit (post ) - +5
    Food (sugar) - +5
    Exercise (Don't look at scale) - +5 - <--This is HARD!

Did a bit better on my Second Year exam. 96% (48 out of 50). I was wrong on the number of times Gilderoy Lockhart won Witch Weekly's Most-Charming-Smile Award and the number of Hogwarts School Governors.
  • Hello all!

I am new to the boards and was wondering if I could join the Ravenclaw Common room?

Have to say I am more than a little bit stoked to see Harry Potter references on here. As an added bonus, I have been sorted into Ravenclaw on Pottermore

Checking in for my spirit OWL for the day. Was a bad girl and stepped on the scale yesterday. And upon seeing the exercise challenges for the coming week, I see I'm going to fail on those. I don't even WATCH tv lol. I mean, I have a few things I watch on dvd to put myself to sleep in the mornings, but I don't ever even see a commerical break, let alone be able to exercise during 3 of them throughout the day.

On a side note, was having my first real low moment since starting my diet. I love how much weight I'm losing...and not sad to see the fat go.....except in one place. Wish I could keep the fat in my chest. I'm feeling pretty down about how much I've lost there and even beginning to think about once my whole weight loss odyssey is over, checking into the cost and what all is envolved with an enlargement. Anyone ever had one?

Here's my check-in for the past week.

    Weight - 257.6

Exercise - 2 (I'm a daily weigh-er, but managed to miss a couple days over the weekend)
Food - 4 (This was hard to track for me since I eat a lot of naturally occurring sugar in milk, fruits, vegetables, grains, etc., but I just gave myself one for the days where I didn't eat anything too artificially sugary)
    Spirit - 2

Today is my first day back at work after a 7 week layoff, so hopefully my new food/exercise routine is able to withstand the monotony of 9-5 office work.
  • weighing in at 142.6 today almost back down to before this little setback.
can I add how excited I was to finally step on the scale.
    +4
I didn't make it on the sugars at all.
    +6 for spirit
    and 450 House points
I hope everyone has a great weekend.

    My daily spirit checkin

Slipped on got on the scale yesterday. Don't know why i bothered, it was after a core workout, and I ate so I knew it was not going to be accurate, but it was at the same weight i was on my normal Sunday weigh in. So, I am hopeful for this Sunday even though it is almost my TOM

Doing great with Sugar, been under everyday, not having a sweat tooth is serving me well this week.

Looking forward to next week's challenges. should be a blast.

I forgot to include the house points on my last post.

I had 246 exercise minutes this past week. The last couple weeks have been a little hectic, so I missed another workout this week. Hopefully things will be back to normal 6 days a week this week.
