What's the worst nutrition or fitness myth you've heard?

1.) Dont eat after (something) PM or it all turns straight to fat.
2.) Never skip breakfast because it slows your metabolism
3.) Eat frequently to boost metabolism
4.) I just gained 3lbs of muscle last week!
5.)Carbs are the enemy
6.) Women who wont lift heavy because they think the will look like a man. Because apparently as soon as you pick up that dumbbell you will turn into the hulk0 -

I actually DID bulk up like a man when I started lifting....
...but then we found out I had an androgen dysfunction.
Now I just do more reps at lower weight. Lol0 -
i like when people ask how'd you do it? Like losing weight is a secret?0

I heard a woman say "I don't want to build muscle, I just want to tone up"
"i do not think it means what you think it means."0 -

Not really a myth but bad math... "muscle weighs more than fat." Uh no it doesn't. A pound is a pound.0
-
Not sure myself if this is fact or fiction...don't weigh yourself after a shower because you will weigh more due to your body absorbing the water. I guess I believe it since I weigh in prior to a shower.0

Actually, muscle does weigh more than fat. However, what you are referring to is "a pound of muscle weighs more than a pound of fat". Yes, in that scenario a pound is a pound. However, muscle does weigh more than fat.0 -
"You burn (50, 60, 75, 100... I've heard them all) calories per day for each additional pound of muscle."
IIRC, the real value is somewhere in the range of 4-8 cal/day, depending on the muscle type and person.0 -

Don't confuse the different units of measurement, weight with density are different. If you're given one lb of fat and one lb of muscle, both equally weight one lb. But if you are given equal volumes of muscle and fat, the muscle is denser than fat (i.e. a cubic inch of fat is less dense than a cubic inch of muscle), then yes, the cubic inch of muscle will weight more than the cubic inch of fat.0 -

nope not true, meal frequency is largely irrelevant when it comes to weight loss, it's all personal preference0 -

Yes and no. Meal frequency *can* affect weight loss, but it's more about the person than it is about the actual timing of meals. For a lot of people, if they go too long between meals, they are likely to reach for an unhealthy snack, or whatever snack is convenient (no matter what it is). That can lead to eating crap, which of course affects weight loss.
But no, the actual TIMING doesn't have a direct impact on your goals.0 -
^^ yeah, frequent meals are just a "tactic" for people that need an angle like that.
another one:
"But... we NEED meat to live!"0 -
When you drink 8 to 10 glasses of water at first you go to the bathroom alot and then it will taper off. NOT I'm still going like a race horse...
HAHA love this, happens to me too!
I think my favorite is the whole "muscle weighs more than fat" thing that people comfort themselves with when they gain. :P0 -
muscle turning into fat is a big one, but the whole "don't eat after Xpm" gets me everytime.0

I don't weigh myself after a shower because I'm wet and will slip, fall, and injure myself from stepping on/off. That, of course, can't be good for my fitness.0 -
My favorites among others:
You can eat whatever you want as long as you're within youre calories. I knew somebody that claimed she could lose weight on a cake diet.
Comments about downplaying protein consumption.
Weights make you big and bulky.
Low.carb diets are unhealthy.0 -

The muscle turning into fat.
Gaining weight...so it's obviously muscle.
Women afraid to lift heavy.
I swear, one time I saw someone ask if toast had fewer calories than untoasted bread.0 -
Seeing a colleague eating a mound of fruit salad and saying she could eat at much as she wanted because fruit was free points....0

"But... we NEED meat to live!"
While technically I'll acknowledge this is a myth. I do want to point out that meat is the most efficient source for the complex fats that children need to develop neurologically. Kids on Vegan diets from birth have a higher rate of developmental delay that can persist to adulthood. That doesn't mean kids should be eating bologna at every meal but we have to acknowledge that genetically we are omnivores.

actually you can eat what you want as long you're within your calories for weight loss. I see no reason why a cake diet couldn't work, i'd prob throw in some protein shakes to get the required amount, but you could lose weight eating tons of cake0 -

I was losing weight while eating 2 slices of cheesecake a day. As long as you're in a calorie deficit at the end of the day, you can have your cake and eat it too.0
