  • Sadly, I am starting to feel worse instead of better. I need to kick whatever I have before the challenge begins. Pray or send positive thoughts my way, please :) We're going to kick *kitten*! :)
Rest, eat healthy, drink orange juice, and rest. ease up on the exercise until you're feeling better. We have a huge october to accomplish some amazing things together.

A little bit about me in case anyone is interested:

I'm 25 and for last 25 years I've always been the fat kid and I decided (for sure this time) at the end of last year that I didn't want to be the fat kid anymore. Since November I've really been working hard to change my lifestyle as a whole and get healthy. I topped out at 290 last January and it scared the hell out of me, but not enough to do anything about it until closer to the end of 2010...then at work we started forming out Meltdown teams as part of our wellness program. I was bound and determined to make some progress with that. We didn't win the challenge, but I had a great support group and lost about 25 lbs and knew I couldn't just quit there - that I needed to keep going. Thus far I have lost 53 lbs since last November and am aiming for another 30 to hit my goal of 199 by the end of the year. If I don't quite hit it, that's fine, but at least I've got something to shoot for.

I started running back in November and told myself I would work up to a mile, then a 5K, then go from there. I officially ran my first 5K on April 9 and have done one every month since then. I've joined running groups in our community, met some wonderful people, made lasting friendships, and have even improved my 5K time!! Recently we also got involved in road biking. Road biking is fun, but it's a HUGE investment to get a good bike - those things are NOT cheap! I figured if I spent that much money on the stupid thing, I might as well use it, right?! Anyway, here are my upcoming races/goals:

October 22 - Pumpkin Run 5 Mile (first race that is longer than a 5K...3.1 miles)
    October 29 - Twilight Thriller 5K/10K
    November 12 - Turkey Trot 5K/10K
    November 19 - Legs & Lager 5K/10K
    March 31, 2012 - Bentonville Half Marathon
June 2012 - Summer Roundup Triathlon

On the 5K/10K's I'm not 100% which distance I'm going to do yet, but I'm currently training for a 10K, so it just depends on when I feel ready to conquer one! The Bentonville Half is kind of nostalgic for me because I'm originally from Bentonville, AR (now living in Joplin, MO), so all of my friends and family are down there and I think it'd be AWESOME for some of them to be at the finish line of my first half marathon - especially considering my fat kid history. And the triathlon just sounds like fun...I think it'd be badass to say I'm a triathlete!

I'm married and have been since November 2006 and we have 2 dogs - Alex and Samson. No children, though - my dogs are my babies. My husband (Nick) has been a bean pole all his life, but fortunately he's recently gotten interested in the endurance sports, as well, so that gives us something we can do together. He can still eat a bucket of ice cream every day and it do nothing to him, so that's kind of aggravating when it comes to the nutrition aspect of things, but he's usually pretty supportive and puts up with my random cooking experiments.

I work as a reimbursement analyst at Freeman Health System which basically means I look at the accounts that we have vs what we THINK we're going to get paid on those accounts and make financial statements based on our estimates. It's all pretty much a guessing game and ever changing with Medicare/Medicaid, but I've definitely got some job security there! Nick is a software support tech at Cardinal Scale (they make trucking scales, medical scales, etc...) so if you ever go to the doctor and see the "detecto" logo with the little cardinal on it, be sure and think of us! :drinker:

I suppose that's enough about me for now. I'm pretty boring for the most part. My life pretty much consists of work, working out, and MFP! I'm really looking forward to this challenge and think we'll have no problem getting in our 120,000 calories!

    Wow...the thread is QUIET today!
  • Sorry about that, I'll take partial blame.
Been going through some personal stuff in my life. I've been staying with my kids and my exwife and we decided on Sunday for me to go back on Wednesday. I live about 1500KM away from them. It's been emotional because I don't want to leave, and I'm going to miss them. This is also the cause of my not so much interaction on the boards or on the status updates. I'm trying to get out of the funk. It's going to be hard though. I'm hoping this challenge coming up in October will be just what the Dr. ordered.

Almost time for our fantastic group to kick everyone's *kitten*! Let's go team. I heart you guys <3
  • I started the c25k did the 30 minute session then bumped around on the incline for another 30 minutes and burned 637 calories, if it's going to be this much fun to burn. We shouldn't have a problem.

Too bad tomorrow isn't the first day of October - I have lots of calorie burning activities planned! Oh well - I'm ready to get on with it and say goodbye to September! I'm actually doing 5 different challenges in October and each of them kind of relate to each other somehow, so it's gonna be fun!!
  • BTW I completed your stair challenge, I'm still 1390 off of completing mine though, but I did more than 25KM this week which was awesome.
  • Love the fact that our game starts tomorrow lets get those miles up high in the sky!!
  • Everybody ready?!?! It's almost October!!

Yeah!!! Am ready for the flight boarding pass in hand. So who is our captain? Would this be the thread we report or calories on? In the last the challenge we was reporting on the thread in this the format: October 1/10/2011 1500.00 burn /0.25miles= ? would/should we take the same format?

Personally I believe reporting on a thread helps persons to interact and motivate each other rather than just messaging the captain in my opinion.

I am still sick, but I won't let you down :o) So it begins today!
  • Aggie it begins tomorrow. Saturday. But I love your motivation!

Shirley, I'm the captain hopefully that's okay :)
We could log it on the thread but I would also like an email about your calories.
Jana created a spreadsheet that we will be logging on.
I'll send an email to all the users with the appropriate links, all the names of our members, who to send their information to, and a request to try to partake in the forum for the community spirit, I know there are at least 2 members on our team who don't really use the message boards but I'll try to convince them.
Enjoy your Friday guys, tomorrow is when the real fun starts.
  • I just sent this email to everyone:

    Hey!

I hope you are ready for the amazing challenge that starts tomorrow.
In case you were not aware, I am the captain for our team so everyday if you could send me a message and let me know what your calorie burn was for the day I can inform the person running the race and we can get it recorded.

Here are the names of everyone on our team:

    Obstacleone (eric)
    agentmattdionne (matt)
    jrdoty8986 (jana)
    spiceshirl (shirley)
    aggielu (aggie)
    musicgirl88 (lauren)
iamsam25 (Sam or David he goes by both)
    leahjl (leah)

If you haven't yet please make friends with your team mates, some of us are starting our journey to a healthier life, some of us are well on our way to achieving their personal goals and perhaps some of us have even beaten that goal. The support I've received from you all so far has been outstanding and I hope this trend continues and everyone else can feel the support and motivation I've been getting from this group of people.

We have a forum thread in the message boards, we are encouraging for everyone to participate and be as much as part of the group and a team player as you possibly can be, I know for some of you the message boards is something you don't really interact with but this will be the best way to share this journey together. The link to the thread is here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/349213-fighter-flight-fly-the-world-challenge-closed-group

Jana created our logo for the race, if you want to use it there's a post in the forum that has the information you need to put it on your signature.

Jana also created a spreadsheet for us to log our calories, if you want to enter this yourself that's totally fine or I can do it for you but regardless I need to have you message me your calorie burn for the day. The link to the spreadsheet is here:
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApGWjN0Yz2hfdHFWM3oxeEVLOEY1SlEzcVVVUEZxd1E&hl=en_US#gid=0

The race itself is on this page here:
    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msid=204655860575059420912.0004abdf0de2eadf90575&msa=0&ll=42.827639,-74.904785&spn=4.713081,9.876709

There are about 21 teams partaking on this challenge, I really think we have what it takes to win. I really hope you feel the same way. I'm looking forward to starting this, and winning this challenge. Good luck to you and if you need anything please let me know and I'll try to help out the best way I can.

    Eric

Hey ya'll! So, I'm not always the greatest at finding the thread and participating in all these posts, but I'm trying to do better! I figured I'd take the time now to introduce myself! I just turned 23 on September 21, and this weekend I am actually celebrating big because it was the only time my friends and I could all meet up. So I'm sorry if this weekend looks horrible! But I do plan on getting quite a bit of exercise today walking around the festival in town :) OK, um....like it says on my profile music has always been my biggest passion, and I am now a co-director of the high school show choir at my alma mater. It takes up quite a bit of my time because once my class graduated, the group fizzled out and it is just now starting up again! So we have a lot of work to do.

I wasn't always the heavier kid. I was an average weight all through school, and noticed i started gaining weight a little in high school. I dieted a little then and even my first year of college. I had actually lost the freshmen 15 instead of gaining it! But then I found out my fiance had cheated on me. Things went downhill fast with me. I started drinking a lot, going out to parties a lot, and eating a lot. I gained about 30 pounds. Things finally started getting better when I met a new guy, but I never really worried about my weight. I had this distorted image that I didn't look too bad, if this guy is interested I must not weigh too much. And then, I saw a picture a friend of mine took. It was one of those pictures where they didnt' warn they were taking the picture, so I didn't have time to suck in my stomach and do the "skinny" pose that I always did. That was my breaking point. I HAD to lose this weight. I had lost about 25 pounds before I joined MFP, and now I am down about 45. I need another group like this (besides the one I'm running) to really help me out. I've been at 181 for 3 weeks now, and it's driving me crazy!!! All I want to to hit my 3rd mini-goal of being under 180 (I was 172 in high school, so that's another mini-goal). It's been so great reading through everyone's profiles and I'm so glad that this challenge starts today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know we'll all do great!! :D
  • I've done 727 calories burned so far today, I intend to burn another 300 at least by the end of the day. Hope everyone is enjoying the 1st of october
