40+ Workout Challenge (October)

I managed to squeak out a workout late tonight. I'm glad I did it, but I feel like it lacked a little energy. I did 12 min. of mini-tramp, 14 min. of my new Bollywood (which wasn't bad- very different) and 11 min. of Funk dancing from a dance DVD. I added 30 min. of strength training to get that time in as well. I'm exhausted, but it feels good not to miss out on a workout again.
Life has been a little stressful. I think tomorrow I need to make sure I meditate or something.

Congrats on getting that workout in, I know how challenging that can be!
I was able to do 40 min of TJ and the 20 min Ab workout this morning. Tomorrow will be challenging as I have a very early meeting that will go all day. It is hard for me to get a workout in during the evening hours, but at the very least I am going to shoot for 20 minutes of Yoga.

Yesterday I did 20 min. of Turbo Jam and 20 min. of Kettlebell. I ran around shopping for an extra outfit for my conference. I am sure I burned a few calories here.
I'm not such a happy camper today. My body is rebelling again, and I think I am up a size. I don't know what is happening, and the doctor has no answers at the moment. I guess I could get an ultrasound when I get back to see if something is going on. I'm not looking forward to that test. It requires you to drink tons of water and hold it for an hour before the test. My bladder is tiny. LOL! TMI!
Today I did 50 min. of a cardio resistance band workout and I will add 10 min. of kettlebell tonight. I will be packing my band to workout with at the hotel.

Tuesday: 40 min TJ + 20 min Yoga (lower body )
Wednesday: 40 min TJ + 20 min Abs
Thursday: Nope, nada, zippo!
Friday: 40 min TJ + 20 min Yoga
Saturday: 40 min TJ
I think I am going to shake it up a bit next week...seems I am very TJ heavy and even though I love the workout, variety is the spice! I think some HIIT mixed in with some dance type cardio will be the focus of the cardio portion of my workouts next week.

I am finding that I am a creature of habit, more so with each successive birthday, lol. My goal for this week is to mix it up a bit, as I feel I am getting to comfy with TJ and not challenging enough of my body parts. So what do I do on Monday? Out of reflex/habit, I put in the 20 TJ followed by the 40 min Turbo Sculpt! Ah well, today I forced myself to look away from Chalene, and explore some other options...

Monday: 20 min TJ + 40 min T Sculpt
Tuesday: 20 min Cardio Circuit (Muffin Top Meltdown) + 20 min dance w/Jennifer Galardi+ 20 min Yoga

I have another cold This makes the third one since September. Very annoying! However, I was able to get through my workout today, we will see about tomorrow.
This week (week of 11/14)
Monday: 20 min TJ + 40 min T Sculpt

Wednesday: No workout

I am back from my conference. I returned on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, I was extremely jet lagged. I took a rest day. In fact, I rested until today aside from some stair work. I weighed myself on Thursday, and it turns out that I did lose 2 pounds during the conference. Here's why:
During the conference, I did not do any regular workouts. I did eat more on the light side with a little bit of dessert (I took small portions). I did happen to walk a ton! Walking around the big hotel. Walking around the city. Walking, walking, walking.
This proves that even though I have been working out like a fiend over the past few months, due to a sedentary lifestyle that comes with working at home at my computer, no weight could be lost. It must be lots of movement or lots of movement with workouts.
So, for the rest of the month, I will continue with the schedule we have set, plus make sure that I am adding break times to go for walks during the day. My one excuse has been the cold, and my ear muffs were broken. Today, I bought a new pair of ear warmers. I have no excuse. So until it gets really cold with snow, I can walk the trails that are close by. After that, I need to find a walking track. I will do some research in my area.
I'm so glad that I finally figured this out. I was literally going crazy. It was frustrating working out so hard and not having the weight budge. I need to find that article again that warned me about this, and I will post for anyone to read.
mspix - You are being so good at checking in. I'm so sorry you have another cold. Are you getting enough vitamin C? My mom takes it religiously, and she has not had a cold in 3 years!
How are you liking the Galardi workouts? She is really good! I have about 3 of her dance workouts.
Haha on the Nope, Nada, zip. Sounds like me on those days.
In regard to TJ - yes, our bodies can get used to exercise. I took a long break from TJ, even though I like it, because of the same reasons. You can put more HHA in too!
Okay - so next week I need to do as much as I can before I leave on Wednesday for Thanksgiving. Aside from walking, I doubt I will get much chance to workout. This time, I will bring the resistance band. I swear!
Sherrill and Gigi - I hope you both are doing well. Check in when you get the chance.

Hi everyone! well I feel like it took a whole week to feel back at home after trip to phoenix. It was nice to see family after so many years. I did pretty good the first 2 days and then days 3-5 were tougher. Monday went back to tracking but I was afraid to weigh in this last Friday. So a few days this week I did cleaning and at work for two days I was helping with boxing which was a lot of bending lifting sweating. So I counted that as workouts but this week I plan on doing my 40/20 six days.0

I have been battling a blasted cold and have not had a workout since Friday I am on the mend and am determined to get at least a 20 minute something in tomorrow.
Fitn; re: the book. It is not grabbing me, unfortunately. I don't know how much is writing style/delivery, and how much is due to familiar material. I have read so many 'self improvement' books that I am not finding much new. I am going to keep reading, I am very interested in her skin care regime and her workouts, which I have not gotten to yet.0 -
I'm finally getting back to normal. I didn't do much during my time away for Thanksgiving, and I gained 2 pounds. I'm hopeful that it will come off again after getting back to it.
Today I did 35 minutes of rowing and then odds and ends walking/cleaning and stair work. I'm attempting to get out of my computer chair every hour, and so far so good.
Tomorrow I will add back in the extra walk and start doing some dvd's. I miss them! I found a 30 day shred for $3 at the thrift store. It was meant to be mine! I will start that in a couple of days as my new challenge in addition to whatever we decide.
I need to get back to yoga/pilates as well. This month was definitely challenging with the two trips. I did okay, but not 100%, more like 80%.

Hi Ladies. I would have to agree that November was very challenging for me too. We just have to get up and keep trying right! Sorry you're not feeling well Mispix. Hopefully you will get to feeling better soon. Vitamin C I agree Fitnfun has been my friend during the winter season. How cool Fitnfun that you found the dvd for 3.00!! Very cool!
As far as next month, I'd hate to say less than what our goal is but it just seems like 40/20 has been tough 6 days a week. I don't think it's a goal I have reached for a whole week yet. :sad: Here's a suggestion, How about 40 minutes of cardio 4 days a week and 3 days of Strength Training? We can do everyother day. I've noticed that I'll do 40 minutes of a cardio dvd (Turbo Jam) and then I"m tired/done for the day it feels like.:yawn: It's been hard to do 20 more minutes of ST.
Thinking something like this:
Monday: 30-50 min Cardio (This allows for a variety of dvds with different time frames)
Tuesday:20-30 min Strength Training (same option of a 20 min dvd or 30 min dvd or free style)
Wednesday: 30-50 min cardio
Thursday:20-30 ST
Friday: 30-50 min cardio
Saturday: 20-30 min ST
Sunday: Rest or Cardio optional
Just a suggestion of course, but really something I feel I can accomplish. Let me know what you think :bigsmile:0 -
Hi ladies I will second the challenging November. I gained two pounds over the holiday, but I knew I would gain so I built that into my long term plan.
The cold is behind me (for now, lol) and I am back to my workouts.
Fitn, I have increased my vit C along with Zinc. Thanks for the referral to the Wellness Formula!
Gigi: I like your idea, I would only add some yoga/stretching in there. I am really finding that it is helping me in a number of ways. And it just feels good, lol! I will admit that some mornings it is really challenging to get 60 minutes. Another of my friends here does short bursts of stair running which gets a great return for 10 minutes, so I may incorporate some things like that in my day.

I'm BACK!! Japan was fantastic! We trekked over 150 miles (per BodyMedia Fit) in 15 days! It was crazy and considering 2 days were spent in car and 2 days on the bullet train...pretty amazing. No wonder my feet hurt! :-)
I'm logging but I'm taking it slow and easy this week - a little recoup time. It appears I held my weight even although I ate everything!! Never in a million years thought I could be tired of noodles!! LOL My scale is still fluctuating a little from the lack of water from the day of the flight, I'm sure. I haven't had time to read all of the posts here but I trust you are all doing WONDERFUL!!!0 -
Sherrill - Welcome back! That's sounds amazing! I'm glad you had a good time in Japan.
I'm thinking it might be good to finally change to a different thread, and I can make the name more generic like:
40+ Workout Challenge (New Every Month)! Then we will never have to change again and new people could join us if they would like. I also think Gigi's idea is good with some tweaking by adding yoga/stretching. Let me tweak and I will post on the new thread and let you know when it is ready.
