Is it just me, or...

I think it's misleading to post a picture of an avatar, etc. as yourself on a weight loss web site. I think we're here to be honest about our true selves and what we need to work on. Thoughts?

Some need to maintain some sort of professionalism and posting a photo if you're, say a boss, and then having thread posts available can sometimes spell disaster.
  • I can't understand not wanting to post personal photos of yourself but there are ways to be adults and professional about it, we don't need to be half naked to show progress. I kind of see both sides. Personally I get so motivated and excited watching the changes in people I've met on here and use that to fuel my days when I'm down in the dumps to perk me up and get back to it.

I'm fine with folks using whatever pic they want for a profile pic...or none at all. I know for a lot of folks, its a big step just to try something like MFP. Folks will post their pics when they feel comfortable. I don't judge either way.

I was talking to the OP. I couldn't care less what you think, so go ahead and flip your switch.

I don't like pictures of myself, really. I like them better *now* than I did 6 months ago, but I have a bazillion cute pictures of my dog and only 1 or 2 of myself. The dog wins.

Can't say I even considered it an issue. I haven't uploaded a pic of myself either .. and don't really care to. But, that's jus me. I firgured it would be my perogative .. not a requirement.

My avatar looks very much like me as it is ... xept, my hair is longer.
  • I can really give two craps less as to what people want as their avatar. It makes no difference in my day or use of the site.

I use a cat picture because it's more cheerful for me. I don't like photos of me at 197 pounds. It's not so much dishonest to avoid personal photos, but less painful.
When I can accept myself more, maybe I'll share myself more.
I speak for myself only, of course. I'm sure there are many reasons to choose an avatar.

I don't necessarily care what people use as their avatars, though I could definitely do without seeing a bunch of scantily clad people.

I do however get annoyed when someone has a picture of their avatar and i'm like wow what a nice body and so i go to their profile to check out what they're doing and then i see it's a picture of a celebrity >.> but whatever, i know people use pictures like that because it inspires them..

So no posting of what you are striving for?

...and I am sorry but expecting honesty on the interweb? BWHAHAHAHAHAHA! *snort*

I don't think it's misleading. We often talk about how we are so much more than what people see on the outside - why shouldn't we be allowed to display that just as much as a photo of our outside? I currently have a photo of myself on top of a mountain - because it inspires me. But in my profile photo collection, I also have a photo of my son and his best friend holding up their basketball trophy last year. Am I misleading you? Sorry, those boys' glory that day inspires me and if that's what I need to look at, that's what you're going to have to look at.

    Misleading???

Just because YOU think people should face "our true selves" doesn't mean everyone is ready to.

And who the hell cares if I'm "half naked" in my bikini! I worked my @ss off for that pic!

I would appreciate being treated with the same politeness I used in my OP. I merely stated my thoughts, and asked for thoughts...not attacks.

It's my avatar, and I'll put what I want. Yes, even if it's a peanut making nut-butter, it's my choice. I don't pick my avatars to please you, thank you very much.
