You can't compare two different people. Way too many other varibles going on.
The comparison was to show that muscle doesn't always equate to strength. If we could do it with twins that would be cool. The Cansecos don't count.

Right but with the numerous OTHER varibles that would attribute to those differences, muscle mass vs strength is probably low on this list of contributors. Mid pack at best. How do you know these two were actively training toward the same goal? You can't,.

    I won't argue with that.

Train while eating at a deficit

That's what I do now. I'll have to see where it takes me. I'm about 1/2 way though this journey

I added a bit more to my comment because I realized it might have come off as rude. Everybody's going to have different results, the nice thing is that your body is a work in progress. Try something out and if it doesn't work for you after you've given it an honest shot adjust and reassess. Good luck man, 1/2 way through is a heck of a lot better than where most folks are at =).

Even if we assume no one reaches the level where they "need" to grow, how do you train to gain strength and prevent additional growth/mass? I've seen strong skinny guys and weak big guys. But that's more a function of their genetics than what they are doing in their lifting routines.

Train while eating at a deficit

Edit to add more: I personally believe diet and workout routine play more of a role in those 'strong skinny' and 'weak big' folks than you give credit.

No problem. I'll agree. I never took your posts as rude. I haven't taken any replies to me here as rude. I have fairly thick skin (but unfortunately a slightly thick tummy also)

Great? I took the debate to it's logical ends and I feel more educated for it.

I didn't know you were that concerned about all of us to ask about our feelings. Feelings.......nothing more than feelings...........

I dislike it when people use the word "decimate" to mean something more severe than "to reduce by 10%." We all have our irritations. Evidently common dictionary definitions disagree with me, but I'm still right, darn it.

Maybe some of us mean skin tone, fat tone, but I hear what you saying about muscle 'tone'.

I tell my kids to tone it down when they getting a bit excited in a negative way.

Now, let's turn to the word definition in the dictionary :glasses:

My muscles are tone deaf. Can I still make them bigger? Korn rules.
  • From Webster's dictionary;

    Tone:
a : the state of a living body or of any of its organs or parts in which the functions are healthy and performed with due vigor
b : normal tension or responsiveness to stimuli; specifically : muscular tonus

Sounds like people can tone their muscles to me!
I agree with you,, it's a common term where I live.

"ripped" That is something that I don't like. Not on men or women. I prefer people who are toned, and yes I do mean muscles and body fat. It just looks more natural.

There are many people who don't like the "ripped" or "shredded" look. Many like the "fit" and "conditioned" look.
