What keeps you on the treadmill?

Or on the elliptical, or cross-trainer, or whatever you use?
For me it's reading my kindle! It's easy to use on an exercise machine, it stays open unlike a book, and it's super lightweight. My rule is I'm not allowed to read until bed once I leave the gym, so sometimes if I'm in the middle of a chapter even if my 40 min is up I'll keep exercising just so I can get to the end! Definitely keeps me exercising longer.
TIP: it's really easy to slow down or not pay attention to your HR, pace, etc, so my trick is to keep a half eye on my pace and try to keep it anywhere above 180 strides per minute.

Treadmill I love to listen to my music on my ipod so I usually play it and I go into lala land for a good hour. Of course that is until somebody interrupts me and wants to get on the treadmill.0

Moving my legs so I don't fall on my *kitten*.
...erm...sorry...
Could you please repeat the question?0 -
I read my Kindle on the treadmill sometimes, too! Works like a charm.
I prefer running outside so far, but when I'm on a treadmill, the biggest thing that keeps me there is the gym daycare. LOL Working out (and then showering) has become my ''ME TIME", as a mom, with the kids having fun in the gym daycare.0 -
willpower and music.0

Good Morning America! If it weren't for that show, I'd never get my butt up and on the treadmill so early!0
-
My music and the fact the cardio room faces the mountains.
I don't see how people can read and workout. I'm going at it 100% and don't see how its possible.0 -
TV! when I'm at the gym and I'm watching a show, I will stay up to 1hr on the treadmill until the episode is over... ( not walking, running the whole time)0
-
Great music and/or fast-paced show, like an old "Alias" episode. Great question, by the way!0
-
Music...I'll listen to my HTC Inspire while watching watching ESPN/UEFA soccer....it has to be something with a steady beat which matches my motion on the elliptical though...0
-
The built in TV at the gym. I don't have TV at home so I schedule my work out around my favorite TV shows.0

watching reruns of various star trek incarnations (on my phone). Geek pride!0

music or watching some old tv series I have never seen. I started watching brothers and sisters. It is okay and I can only watch it if I am on the treadmill. One episode in average 45 minutes. Works great!0

People interrupt you to get on the treadmill?! Sounds rude to me, especially if you're at a gym!0 -
I watch Netflix movies and other shows on my phone. If you tune into that and not the fact that you are on the treadmill, it is not as bad and I usually stay on longer.0

If I can read, I'm not going hard enough.
I do like to watch TV.0 -
A hurt ACL - still need to get my training in while not aggrevating anything. Allows me to heal. I listen to Rush Limbaugh (the BIG voice on the right) while I do the elliptical. I plan on doing it ONE more time then its back to the pavement0

Music.
Watching the beefed up guys lifting weights.
Size 6 jeans.
Victoria's Secret Holiday catolog.
Screaming keep going you fatty in my head.
Imagining one of those hot beefed up dudes who is lifting weights is watching me counting the minutes I can run for.
I am clearly insane.0 -

Nothing!! which is why I don't usually use indoor gym equipment. I much prefer to do things outside, I find it much more entertaining.0

I STILL haven't found something that keeps me on the treadmill! I find I can run farther and faster outside than on the "dreadmill" any day! Today for example (it's raining here), I was on the treadmill for 30 minutes with my fav music AND the TV on and all I could do was look at the numbers to see what my pace was, how many more minutes I had, how many calories I was burning...it was making me crazy! I do much much much better when I can be outside, listening to my music, and enjoying my surroundings. Anyone else feel this way? I've gotta get a sweatproof/waterproof case for my iphone, or I'm never gonna make it through on the crappy rainy days!!

Once I started having to run outside for my long runs I can't get back on the dreadmill. Anything longer than 10 minutes on that thing and I want to shoot myself in the face.
If I'm running, I'm running outdoors I don't think there's anything that could get me to run for too long on it. On the flipside I don't even feel the need listen to music when I run outdoors.0 -
Yes. And it's annoying. Then it's a community gym and I guess they don't want to go on the other stuff we have. I courteous if I see people on the treadmills I just go do the stationary bike until they are done or I go over to the elliptical.0

My music keeps me going wherever I am ... treadmill, ARC, elliptical, bike, outside running...0

I broke up with most exercise equipment. I'd rather run outside. How I continue running outside when I'm bored/tired? I don't run laps, or drive to a park to run, so I have to run back to my apartment.0

AGREED!! I find it so hard now that I've started running outside!!0
