What size pants do you wear?

First thing; "Congratulations!" Second I am really not looking to burst any bubbles but the garment industry here in the U.S. lies... I was wearing a 36" waist when I originated my fitness journey but my actual waist measurement was 39” and when I measured pants the waist was 38” with give for comfort… I then measured all my pants and found that the 36” or 34" tag was just that… a tag. The measurements were always 2 to 3 inches more than the tag indicated. I am not sure how it relates to women’s clothing but I had a girl friend that once told me that when she got to a 6 she couldn’t fit in the sixes that she wore when she was younger (she threw nothing away) so I believe the American clothing industry is padding the numbers and making the sizes larger as to not hurt our egos.
I was actually wondering about this. When I was in my 20's I wore some 5/6's mostly 7/8's and weighed about 120. My first thought was that pant sizes must be bigger than they were 20 years ago! LOL0 -
When I started I was approx. 225 lbs. and wearing a 22w. Now I'm at 144 lbs. and I wear a size 10. I'm 5' 7"0

i wear an 11, before starting this they were fittin snug, now they're very comfy! looking to get down to a 9, not sure if i can go lower as i have wide hips!0

When I started MFP in March of 2011, I weighed 183 lbs and was wearing a size 14 in pants . My goal was to be 135 lbs and wear a 7/8 . Yesterday I went shopping and bought all 5/6 pants and they fit so comfortable!! Not tight at all. I weighed in this morning at 141. I am 5'2". I am just floored that I am not even to goal and am wearing a smaller pant size than I was even shooting for. :noway: Anyone else wearing a smaller size than you ever dreamed you would?
Wow, 5/6! I think I would have cried tears of joy in the dressing room.
My sister (who is losing weight, too) and I have had a lot of discussion about this and what "true" sizes are versus "vanity sizes." I know you shouldn't focus on sizes, but when you hit a new, low size, it can be a pretty awesome NSV. I commend you for your hard work!!! I definitely wish I had started at your weight post-pregnancy, because I'd be super light now, but instead I ate to my heart's content while pregnant and weighed about 255 before I delivered! I weighed probably around 185 when I got pregnant.
I am 175.8 today and am wearing size 12 Old Navy jeans with room to spare. I can squeeeeeeeeeeze into size 10 jeans that are cut small (if I look them up online, everyone complains that this particular brand runs small). I should go to Old Navy just to try on my current jeans in a size 10, since it's not worth the money to me to buy them for such a short period of time. I am actually close to fitting into my NY&Co size 8 jeans. I used to be able to fit into a size 8 pants and jeans when I was in the low 160s, and those 8s were roomy in the low 150s. I even fit into a size 6 pair of pants when I was 151 or so.
When I started MFP, I don't even know what size I would have been. I just wore less obvious maternity clothes until I could start fitting back into the larger clothes that I had on hand (14s and such), and I bought a few 16s when my maternity clothes were getting too big to still be able to pull off wearing. I think that was when I was in the low 200s.
I'm 5'7", for the record, though I think it says that in my signature0 -

Back in high school (Canada) when I took fashions class we were actually told that the industry (typically U.S as many of our companies here are from U.S) does make the numbers on our pants smaller than the actual measurements because it makes people feel better to be in smaller sizes, so you've got it right!
And for me, not down any sizes yet but I'm just starting, my belt's starting to feel a bit looser though, and down about 5lbs so it's a start0 -
congrats to you...and all who have made such tremendous strides!!!
i started my weight loss journey in the summer of 2010, weighing 443 pounds wearing a very tight size 32w, i "was" 5'9"...i say "was" because now i am 5'8". i weighed in this morning at 280.6 pounds and yesterday i wore a pair of old 22w's and they are getting very baggy(they are dress slacks and i can pull them on and off without having to unbutton them, and the waist gapes open above my bum)...lol...so i really dont know where i am at the moment, but i know ive come a long way...and i really dont have a destination in mind, i am just enjoying the trip!0 -
Honestly, maternity mostly... sad part is, I'm not even pregnant!!!!
Been there, done that! Please read my prior post on this thread... you'll get back into non-maternity clothes before you know it - just stick with it!0 -

I had actually saved a huge tupperware bin full of my old size 3's, 4's, 6's and 8's from 8+ years ago when I was slim(mer). So when I could buy a size 6 at the mall a few months ago, I dragged out the old bin and started trying them on. I can wear all my old 6's, but none of the smaller sizes even though I can wear a 4 from the mall. Uh except the bongo jeans, they're not so generous, size wise.
So recap - I wore size 4/5/6 for most of my adult life (barring pregnancies and recovery periods). Last pregnancy I gained weight after the birth, instead of lose weight :noway: . I got up to a 12/14 and XXL before I joined MFP and started losing. I am now back to a comfortably loose size 6, tight size 4. I'm happy although I have some extra fat to lose (think I have more fat now than I did last time I wore this size).0 -
The very first time I was able to get on a pair of jeans that were a size 12, I was in the dressing room and completely forgot I was in a semi-public place and said at the top of my voice "No Sh--". I could hear the gal next to me laughing. I apologized and she was really cool about it. I usually try to watch my mouth because you never know when little ones are around, but that just kinda came out.:blushing:0

My goal was always a Size 12 (I'm 5'10" with a large build and an hourglass figure). I would have been happy to stay there, but I don't mind being smaller as long as I'm healthy, which I am now and would be a little lighter or a little heavier. I weigh about 169 pounds.
I'm now mostly in 8 for pants (I started in a 24W) and smaller in skirts and dresses (6).
The biggest shock for me for sizes though was shirts - I went from an XXL to Small or even sometimes Extra Small. I didn't even know that was possible for someone with my build (especially because I have a large chest), but I guess my narrow shoulders and small waist make the difference there.
I agree - I am actually fitting into my size small shirts now, and I have a couple of extra smalls from my thinner days. All of my maternity clothes were XL, including shirts! I am large-chested but have a teeny waist, which helps.
I also think my weight is deceptively high... I have been running 6 days/week with my sister since the end of August (we're now doing Bridge to 10K, and if we don't run we do something equally or more difficult, like spinning), and I have gained probably a good few pounds of muscle. I know when I have been this weight in the past, I was not fitting into clothes as small as I am now. Muscle makes a huge difference!0 -
I was wearing a size 12 when I started MFP at 5'5" and 172 lbs. I am now wearing a size 4 at 145 lbs.0

Congratulations! When I started December 11, 2010, I was wearing a Women's 24. I'm 5' 6" My goal weight is 150. Seven pounds to go. I never thought about my clothes size, but have been buying smaller and smaller sizes every couple of months. Only because I didn't want to walk aroung in baggy clothes, plus my friends were telling me I wasn't looking good in the larger sizes. The first time I got into a size 12, I came out of the dressing room crying. A couple weeks ago my husband took me shopping again and I bought size 10 petite. I don't remember ever wearing a size 10!! Smallest size I remember was 12 and that was before my first child was born over 27 years ago. I know MFP works and tout it every time someone asks how I'm losing weight.
Ohhh, your story touched me - I would have cried, too!
The funny thing is, when people ask you how you did it, I find that they sound disappointed when I tell them there's no magic. They don't sound any more interested when I tell them there's a free site and app to help them out.
I guess their "light switch" just has to be flipped on0 -
I am also 5'2" and currently wearing a 12 -- when I started I was a size 20!! Can you imagine, 5'2" size 20!!!
My goal is also a size 8, but my goal weight is 136. I feel like at 136 I'll be much smaller than an 8!
That is so awesome!!0 -

As I mentioned earlier, there's no standard sizing in the US. People in factories just HOLD the pants up and *cut* So it's not extra padding, it's a bunch of cheap-*kitten* pants designed by amazing designers and made by slave labor (I just took a test online to find out how many slaves work for me...35!!!) Anyway...all sweatshop talk aside there's no standard sizing. Back when people cared about quality the sizes were all uniform.0 -
Rockin 36's or 38's depending on brand and style..more 36's these days.0
-
depends on the brand and type of pants... I have 14's, 12's and even a 10! All of them make me feel good!! I grabbed a pair of jeans I wore when I started this 205 days ago to mow the grass in on Saturday and I couldn't believe how baggy they were. My daughter told me I shouldn't be wearing scarecrow jeans that look like overalls! LOL0
-
I was a 3x when I started and now I`m wearing a xLg.But those are getting a little loose now.0
-
0-4 depending on the brand. I am 110, 5'0. Usually a 2 is just right. 4's are baggy, but sometimes you want to get your baggy on, you know? I have one pair of jeans in 0, an honestly, I think they are lying.0

Eight months ago it was 46, today it is 34.0

And 10 yrs ago even ~ I have some jeans from 10 to 12 yrs ago, that are a size 10, I'm in a size 12 but my waist doesnt measure 2 inches bigger than those jeans (according to what I've found online, jeans/pants etc go up one size every 2 inches) I had fits at a few people, cause that really bothered me LOL Glad I'm not the only one whose noticed.
I'm now not worried about a size, weight or measurement, I just want my freaking stomach FLAT. Thats when I'll be happy LOL0 -
Started at 168 and size 8/10. Am currently at 145ish and wearing 4s or 6s. I'm 5'10". I know it is size inflation...and it's a bit embarrassing to think I am wearing a 4 in some pants...seriously, if I continue to lose and tone will I be wearing a 2? That's crazy. Not that I'm complaining, but I still have work to do on my body...0

I wear 28/30 or 5-7. I have a bum like Kim K and JLO. Not always a gift; it's hard to find decent jeans that fit well0

I was a 14 a month ago, now I'm a 12. I went shopping last week for jeans and couldn't find any that fit 'right' I tried a 12 and they were too loose, and a 10 was too tight. I bought the 10 and intend to fit into comfortably by Christmas.
I tried on the 10's this morning and they fit. Still a tough tight, but they should be perfect by Thanksgiving instea of Christmas. My new goal is to be in single digits by the first of the year.0 -

I've also heard the material is stacked and they're all cut in a pile, so the ones on top might be smaller than the bottom. At places like the Gap and Old Navy, you can try on 3 pairs of jeans the exact same size, and they may all fit a little different!0 -
when I first started losing weight I was a size 18-20 now im down to a 13-14 I think ill always be a double digit size since I have natural wide hips...most people dont believe me when I say im a size 14, I honestly dont look it...but my wonder hips make it so
lowest ive ever been was a size 10...so thats my goal 10-120
