Will you be giving yourself a break over Xmas?

  • I may indulge here and there but I intend to stick with it. Exercise and logging in my food daily is key for me. I'm at my midway point and it would be too hard to just give in and have to restart.

  • Me and my mum have signed up for a half-marathon which is that start of march. We've both said we'll skip the junk over Christmas and train to get the best times.

However... we've promised ourselves that we're going to stuff our faces with chocolate eggs over Christmas!

    No break.

If this is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE to improve my overallwell-being, then I do not need a break from becoming the best "me".

I can enjoy my favourite foods of the season in moderation without overdoing it and sticking to my calorie plan. In truth, I have always felt crappy the day after I let myself down, so why go through that? To me, if I had decided to stop smoking as a healthy lifestyle choice, I would not take a "break" and smoke again over Christmas!

If this was a DIET, then I can understand the break. Diets require breaks....lifestyle changes require dedication.

    ^this^
I'd be sick the entire time, anyway. I actually tend to lose weight over the holidays, because I'm happy and surrounded with people I enjoy. (And...because I am typically cleaning up after said people).
  • I'm not giving myself a break. I have way too much to lose. Plus, we don't get a Christmas break at work so this is even more motivation to keep working on my goal

Moderation is my goal. I will treat myself to some things i really enjoy on the holidays but only a piece or a small portion not like before my healthy lifestyle. I work so hard for those pounds to come off and know full well I could pack on 10 or 15 pounds EASILY from Christmas to New Years day. No thanks!
  • I'm with you. I plan to enjoy myself but I am still going to log and try to follow my plan. I don't want to start my new year feeling guilty. It's just not worth it to me. I will exercise more if need be.

I hadn't really thought about it. Wow, I like how almost everyone already has their holiday plan! LOL,

My first goal is to get to 130 pounds by 2012. That means I have to lose 7 pounds. That's all I plan to do during these next weeks ;)

I plan to log in/exercise only on the days that end in "y".......lol!~
  • I'm from Germany, therefore I don't have to worry about Thanksgiving, but there still are Christmas and New Year's. For those, I will definitely NOT take a break. Sure, I will allow myself a yummy Christmas dinner but my family coosk really healthy, so we won't have anythign that would mess up my routine. I will still work out over the break, especially to "deserve" the alcohol on New Year's.
But no, I won't allow myself to eat like I did during my "fat days". this is my new lifestyle and why should I give it up?
But I won't log on Christmas and new Year's, mainly because I don't want to spend on the computer ;)

I don't like Christmas food very much, so I will do my best to stay on track despite the good intentions of my friends and family. That is, as much exercise as I can fit in, and filling the plate up with salad and veges as much as I can (and avoiding desserts).

New Year's shouldn't be a problem - I don't drink and will be sharing the night in Melbourne with my partner, so that's all the celebration I need.

I'm trying hard to not look at this as something I need a break from, this is supposed to be a lifestyle change. So, I'll keep logging and when I eat something that throws the balance off, I'll take something else off to make up for it or add some exercise to balance it out.

Christmas day - i will have off and eat what i want, but will watch portion sizes and not have any pre dinners nibbles ie cheeses, dips, chips etc. BUT alll other days will be normal eating and exercise with the exception of maybe a few more wines!

as i do all the shopping all the prep and all the cooking it will all be done low fat, low/no sugar

half the time my hubby asks why am i eating that when im on a diet, then i tell him its diet stuff he can not belive it, that he ate it and enjoyed it..and has even started to ask me to make it again..

i may have a little drink but it will be gin and slim line tonic or 3 ;-)
  • haha I forgot to mention. There's less temptation for me because I'm Canadian and had Thanksgiving in October, but Christmas is going to be hard. I'm determined to stick with it though!

I may overindulge, but I am going to be honest about it and log everything. I don't understand the not logging it. Just because it's not logged doesn't mean it didn't happen.
    That's a really good point!!!!
  • I am taking a break from logging this week, will still be eating healthy but feel I need a week off logging. Only 1kg to lose so not stressed about it
re Xmas, yup won't be watching what I eat on 24-26th Dec and 31 Dec-2nd Jan. So that's 6 days of eating what I want just not eating when I'm full though and luckily I like healthy food (desserts are my downfall!)

I plan on eating the things I want to, within moderation, but I'm also going work workout! I may not get a workout in on the actual days, but I'm gonna try... even if it's a quick video or something... it's not really that I can't enjoy the day, it's just that I get stressed out if I don't do something to break a sweat.

me too. I will indulge but log everything and then back to normal for working out. I even plan to do extra workouts for the actual holiday days as well. Those holidays did not make me fat, my everyday bad behavior did.

Two bites of anything I want won't destroy all my progress. It's all about portion control. I am confused by everyone that says they are not going to log because they want to enjoy themselves. The enjoy the way I am eating now. And I know that this needs to be a lifestyle change for me or I will just end up back where I started.

I have Thanskgiving week and the week between XMas/NewYears off. I plan on upping my exercise those two weeks.
  • I plan on enjoying both T-day and Xmas, but from now until then, and imediately after, I am going extra hard on my exercise, twice a day most days, and continuing to watch my calories

NO! Because the minute I get back in the habit of eating a higher calorie amount, its gonna be hard to go back!

Exercising like normal (well as normal as you can expect when the gym times are messed up over the holiday period)
Logging like normal apart from Christmas day and Boxing day.

I've pretty much finished trying to lose weight now, so I probably won't log over Christmas, but will try not to over indulge too much and to fit some yoga in somewhere.

I'm thinking, just go for the good stuff, but in relative moderation, so cheap chocolates are out, but champagne truffles are in. Quality over quantity.

It's so hard to lose the weight in the first place, so I really don't want to gain. But I will plan my 'cheat day' for Christmas day so that it's scheduled and I can enjoy it. I try to have one cheat day a month and have never gained an ounce. I will, of course, keep exercising over the holidays as usual. I have worked wayyyyy too hard to blow it all in a week.
