Smug marrieds? **generalization alert!**

I just got married a couple of months ago, and I'm pushing 40. I spent my 20s back packing around the globe, I've lived in amazing cities, learned other languages, and have had experiences that I wouldn't change for anything: saw the Berlin Wall fall, trekked through a desert on a camel, learned to scuba dive in the Red Sea, hiked to Machu Picchu...yet, whenever I went home and was around my married family members, I was invariably asked when I was going to settle down and start my life? I'm not sure why my life was any less valid than theirs. I got the sense they pitied me for not having a husband and house and kids. I think their lives are wonderful, but so was mine (and still is!). So yes. I experienced the smug before.0
