I'm on for a restart to the smoothie challenge. I had a couple of little blips (no greens in the house! for one) SO, today I will have one of my bok choy smoothies.

2 small bunches baby bok choy
    1 cup fresh pineapple
    1 large banana
    1 cup frozen sliced strawberries
4 ozs Bolthouse Farms passion orange guava juice
    1 cup filtered water
*Makes 2 servings 151 calories each

    Tomorrow~ red swiss chard

~rita27ny~ the green is GREENS. You can use anything, but for beginners it's best to use spinach, red and green leaf lettuces, romaine lettuce, swiss chard, bok choy are a few. Rotate your greens and it's okay to mix them. Use that kiwi with some baby spinach and strawberries. Parsley (celery too) has a strong flavor and will over power the flavor of a smoothie if you use a lot of it, unless that is what you are looking for because you love the taste of parsley. It's great in a savory smoothie. Excellent for water retention too.

~Kokomojoe~ What blender do you use? I have an Oster Fusion blender. It breaks kale down to really small bits that I don't have to chew. Pretty good for a budget blender. I would love to have a blendtec or vitamix.

~ashleemcfarla~ Yum. Your smoothie recipe sounds like a good veggie soup!

    This morning-

    banana
    light soy milk
    berry mix
    protein powder

I am curious how it tastes with the greens mixed in- since I usually do green veggie juice OR a fruit smoothie the idea of combining them sounds a little weird:)

    Thanks!

~ashleemcfarla~ You'd really be surprised. Despite the unattractive green color (to some) green smoothies do taste good because you only taste the fruit (when you use mildly flavored greens) and get the benefit of the chlorophyll and many other vitamins and minerals they contain.

I also sometimes use green juice in my fruit smoothies, but the greens as the whole food gives me all the fiber too.

    Beet Greens Smoothie
    6 servings ~ 8ozs ~ 53 calories

1.5 cups beet greens (beet tops)
    1 medium apple (grated)
12 ozs Columbia Gorge carrot beet celery juice
    1-1/2 cups frozen blueberries
1-1/2 cups ice cubes (filtered water
    1/2 cup filtered water
  • 1 handful dandelion greens
    1 handful parsley
    1 handful spinach
    1 banana
    1 orange
    1 cup frozen raspberries

Some substitutions I made. I used sprouted sunflower seeds for the dandelion greens I didn't have, no orange so that didn't happen and the cup of frozen raspberries became 1/2 cup raspberries and 1/2 strawberries. I also added Vega Vanilla Chai in it as well with a cup of water.

ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT...HOW YA HOLDIN UP??

ARE YOU UP TO ANOTHER 14????

    Baby is
  • I am holding up fine Babynew. I don't think another 14 would be good as my schedule over Christmas will involve travelling and being able to have one every day probably won't work.

Oh I'm up for another 14! This morning, I didn't have time for a freshly made green smoothie. I made one from a Columbia Gorge wild blackberry smoothie, 1 TB of Green foods Magma Plus powder and 1 scoop of Whey Factors unflavored protein powder. Pretty tasty. I still have 2 baby bok choy, swiss chard and red kale and some spinach to use this week. I still may make a fresh one for my dinner tonight. Yum, yeah, mango and pineapple with chard and spinach.

Let's keep it going through the holidays. January's coming! I had planned on doing a whole foods detox in April, so I want to give myself a big jumpstart and drink green smoothies everyday during the Winter months.

@Kokomojoe~ You don't have to go without your greens. Get some Green Vibrance and mix it with 100% juice or mix it in yogurt if you still eat dairy. Although, there is soy yogurt and rice yogurt.

FOR NO AMOUNT OF MONEY ON THE PLANET WOULD THIS GO INTO MY MOUTH! GOOD LUCK

I am starting a 14 day green smoothie challenge. I will post the smoothie every day that I am drinking. Please be advised that I am not responsible for what they taste like as I am getting this via e mail every day. From looking at the recipe I may be adding in a raw egg or protein powder to add to it.

    Todays recipe:

    Green Smoothie Recipe
    ½ head of romaine lettuce
    3 bananas
    2 cups water

You can use aloe as a wonderful salve for burns. I usually keep a medium size aloe in my kitchen.
If I burn myself cooking I just snip off a piece and rub on the burn. It works wonders for sunburns.
had never thought of using it in a smoothie. will most definitely be trying this! :)
