I actually like this post- As for some people saying it was harsh or rude to me it was no different than the other people telling you that you HAVE TO EAT ALL YOUR EXERCISE CALORIES (because people on the site lost weight working out to just eat more)
but anyway some people need to be encouraged by others and need their hand held and other people just need a kick in the *kitten* and for someone to be really blunt with them and tell them how it is so they can get back on track - thats the difference of BOB and JILLIAN on the biggest loser. So if others don't like this thread there are plenty of other threads that they can read
In reality everything she said was true NO EXCUSES! you know what you need to do- Its all about moderation and portion control if you want junk food is it really worth it. I look at things so differently now- (I never had to worry about my weight I was always active so it didn't matter what I ate but when sports ended I continue to eat like I was still active (hense the weight gain)- But now that I have to lose this weight I realize a cookie isn't worth what it takes to burn it off-
I too am very busy I work fulltime, 2 kids, both my daughters play sports, have a needy husband, and a household to run and still find time to go to the gym for a min of 60 minutes 5-6 days a week.
You can't say you don't have time or you are waiting for time because time never comes you have to find it.0 -
I find people who make excuses don't want to find a way around the problems. A teacher I work with was complaining of not being able to take off the baby weight from her last child (her daughter is almost 3) . Here is how our conversation went.
I suggested the gym where I go she said oh I don't have time and what would I do with the kids. I said well my gym(which is very reasonable) has child care so the kids run and play and are active for up to an hour each time you just schedule a time to come by drop them and go exercise. Well I have to fix dinner. Well we get off school at 2:41 that leaves plenty of time to get the kids from day care get to the gym for an hour a few days a week and then home to fix dinner. Well I am just so tired. Do you think it may be due to lack of exercise and the extra weight your body is carrying and besides exercise is great for relieveing stress and fatigue, I do some almost every day and I weigh twice as much as you. I know you seem to have so much energy and you are always in a good mood! That is the happy endorphins from the exercise and good diet I follow(I already told her about MFP) Oh, I just don't think I can do it.
So even though I was able to help her around the issues she had she was just not ready to commit. I don't want to be that person. Thanks for keeping me going!:drinker:

Amy,
I feel like we've all dealt with someone just full of excuses. Sometimes you can only wish them the best and hope that they reach a point where they are ready to make a change. We can't force it :ohwell:
It is irritating to hear people complain again and again about the same thing but not do anything about it. If it's the same person, I find that I start tuning out because there's only so much you can listen and feel sorry before you're ready to give some tough love.
We've made the decision to commit to better lifestyles, and exercise is one of the best ways to focus on you and strip away the stress of the day, even if it's just for 30 minutes. Also, where as other people want to make excuses, we see opportunities to be creative and overcome these supposed obstacles. You've obviously tried to reach out and give her reasons why she CAN make it work, but all she sees are reasons she can't. When you mentioned the daycare, she came up with another excuse immediately. Dinner? I immediately thought of Crock-Pot cooking. I LOVE coming home to my dinner waiting on me with no work involved:laugh: . And I do most of my cooking on Sunday afternoon or evening and then divide it up into containers so I have something to grab and go throughout the week. Plus, I also save money when I know I just won't let myself spend it on junk food.
I really like mrsyac2's signature quote. We can all take something from it. Maybe your friend will join us on MFP when she's ready.
Another thing I want to encourage everyone to do is keep an open mind. Much of the initial backlash occurred because my approach was different from the usual hugs, praise, rainbows, and butterflies. If you're a person who's lost and gained back the same 20, 30, or 40+ pounds, maybe it's time to try something different. Different is good. I think I'll have some more of different.0 -
A good recipe for those crazy mornings...just make a batch and freeze. You'll always have something to pop in the microwave and run out the door with!
Vegetable Quiche Cups to Go
from the South Beach Diet
1 package of frozen chopped spinach (10 ounces)
3/4 cups liquid egg substitute (Egg Beaters)
3/4 cups shredded reduced fat cheese
1/4 cup diced green bell peppers
1/4 cup diced onions
3 drops hot-pepper sauce (optional)
Microwave the spinach for 2 1/2 minutes on high. Drain the excess liquid.
Line a 12 cup muffin pan with foil baking cups. Spray the cups with cooking spray.
Combine the egg substitute, cheese, peppers, onions, and spinach in bowl. Mix well. Divide evenly among the muffin cups. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes, until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
Quiche cups can be frozen and reheated in the microwave.

Reading your conversation was actually funny to me- I have a friend that says she wants to get in shape but always complains of having no time- I gave her plenty of examples of where she has time and then their was just another excuse- To me if someone has excuses they aren't serious- and before you start anything the person doing it has to be serious with it- You can't do it for somene else it has to be for number 1 you.0 -

Hi everybody--
What a long rainy studious weekend
But, thanks to MG's motivation, I stayed w/in my cals both days (95% clean!), and had super workouts too. I hope you all enjoyed the weekend and are ready for a new week :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:0 -

Great job on keeping to it this weekend! We're so proud. Weekends can be so tough.
As a final thought for the night, I'd like to say thanks to the people who found motivation in my tough love and stuck it out through the storm. We're all here for similar reasons, but there are many roads to get there. That being said, we probably have many "lurkers" out there checking up on us, and some may even be our past critics. We can only do what we know best, which is staying positive, disciplined, and supportive of each other on this path.
For the lurkers out there, I'd like to invite you to join in and let us know your thoughts. If this approach might be for you, then I encourage you to post and motivate us. Helping ourselves while helping others is what we are here for. Good night everyone!

Hey, everyone~
This thread looks awesome...I want IN! I joined MFP a few weeks ago(Jan 15th) Like all of you, I've made a real commitment to myself. I've gone through those phases in the past where I've told myself "I'm really gonna do it this time." Successfully? Not so much. This time is the real thing! MFP(along with all the amazing members) has helped me to open my eyes and make postive changes. I've learned to push(as well as pace) myself so that I can go all the way and live healthfully for the rest of my life. That being said...I am ready and willing and excited to BRING IT!
PS-Soooo, are we Team Bring It?!0 -

Good Morning Everyone! Glad to see some new faces on board. I have a little rant from a member over at Team Beachbody who says exactly how I feel sometimes. It's nice to read when you have those naysayers in your life who don't want to see you succeed.
THEY JUST DON'T GET IT
Ok.. I need to just rant and rave about a few "real world" things. Over the last month it seems like I am constantly being bombarded with comments from the peanut gallery in my real life. What I've discovered is that 'real world people", people from town from my family from the grocery store, Yeah THOSE PEOPLE.. they just don't "GET IT".. They don't get that this really is about our health and our life, that this isn't just a 20 day phase of getting on a treadmill, dropping 5 lbs, and going back to pizza and the couch.. They don't get that this REALLY IS A LIFESTYLE…that YES, I am GOING TO WORKOUT ON THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS EVE, AND ON MY BIRTHDAY.. and YES, I REALLY AM GOING TO EAT HEALTHY EVERY SINGLE DAY FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE, WHICH IS NOW GOING TO BE LONGER THAN BEFORE.
It amazes me the amount of negative reaction that I get.. honestly, people telling me that I am too skinny, or that I am obsessed, or that they like the "old Tommy better".. well GUESS WHAT, the OLD TOMMY LEFT THE BUILDING.. THE NEW TOMMY IS HERE AND THIS IS HIM, GET USED TO IT!!! You know what REALLY gets me?? When I was morbidly obese nobody took time out to be concerned for my health, they didn't tell me to lose weight.. BUT NOW.. NOW that I am like the most fit I've ever been, more fit than 98% of anyone in town, NOW they want to point out that they think I've lost too much weight, or that I need to just eat something bad a few times a week, etc.. WHY??? I DON'T GET IT????
But you know what.... I DON'T CARE!!! All I know is what I've done can't be taken away from me, that the way I live NOW feels so much better than before, and that all the reasons I have to live this lifestyle are 100% on the money A+ REASONS... When I want people who "get it" I COME HERE!!! WHERE YOU GUYS ARE AT!! BECAUSE YOU PEOPLE "GET IT" and I THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!
EMBRACE THE PAIN!!!

A few lines from Mike French that I took to heart.
Its times like this incident that I wonder “What are people thinking?” How can they care so little about their own health? Living for the moment is more important than making planned decisions that enhance their lives?
Don’t get me wrong, to each his/her own and I am not writing this in judgment. To value eating junk food, drinking beer, and not caring about fitness at all over being in the shape of your life, adding years to your life through fitness, and being a good example of health to everyone you encounter in your life is something I just can’t understand or relate to….
1. I really enjoy the way proper nutrition and hard workouts make me feel. I feel MUCH BETTER when I am taking in nutritious fuel and pushing myself physically.
2. It is MY RESPONSIBILITY to my Family to eat right and work out hard. I add YEARS to my life by challenging my willpower, strength and cardiovascular system. That is my gift to my Family AND myself.
3. I really enjoy looking and feeling good.

Hi DKell!
Thanks for joining in. First of all, way to go for recognizing what your goals are. Sometimes truly outlining and specifically defining your goals is the hardest step. Quitting smoking is probably one of the hardest challenges out there because it is a habit and an addiction. I think that once you make a commitment to your nutrition and fitness, you might find that you think a few seconds longer before you grab that cigarette. It's tough to work so hard at everything else and then see it all wasted on one puff right?
As for not drinking and loving healthy foods, that's great. Many people find that it is difficult to overcome, but your food preferences put you halfway to clean eating already. Sweets are ok as a treat, but I find that most people just have trouble controlling themselves with them. And I truly believe that sugar can be an addiction. Once you break yourself of it, you start to really enjoy the real taste of nutritious, quality foods. I haven't had a candy bar in probably 5-6 years, and you know what? I don't even miss them. But a good, strong piece of dark chocolate every once in a while sure is good.
And you're right, Chit Chat is fun, but we have to remember our number one reason why we're here. Glad you decided to focus your energy!

:flowerforyou: :drinker: Thanks, I'm ready to start on this road to feeling better and feeling better about myself.:drinker: Thanks for the encouragement. I'll keep you posted and I'll be reading this string to see what's up.:drinker: :drinker:0

Started my day off great w/ ChaLean Extreme Lean Circuit #1. Love these workouts!
And Chalene Johnson said something that really struck me today. She was talking about writing down your goals and how important it is to have a goal! That is SO true. I find when I am really focused and have a real goal to shoot for... I hit it!
Right now my goal is to run a half marathon in May and NOT get injured. I am using the FIRST program of running 3 days a week and using my speedwork, tempo, and long runs to build up to the half. I am hitting my paces and feeling STRONG! No missed runs, no missed strength training... NO EXCUSES! And you know what? I'm down 6# since the New Year and feeling awesome!
So... what are your goals?0 -

Oh thanks Jess! Way to raise the bar and make us put our goals out there for the community to see!
I've been thinking about ChaLean. I really really want it, but I'm waiting to finish my P90X round before I get it. Can you give me a brief overview of how it differs from P90X, and what changes you are seeing?
I hope to be able to run a half marathon soon too. I've NEVER been a runner. In fact, I've always considered running to be one of my weakest fitness points. But once it get's warmer out, I think I'm going to try to up my routine to a sort of doubles with a few miles of running in the morning and P90X at night (depending on class and work of course:happy: )
My short-term goals are to lose 2 pounds per week with disciplined eating and proper nutrition. Ultimately, I hope to get down to a size 2/4 (I have a petite/medium frame) and 115 pounds. However, that might change depending on how I feel when I get closer. I also plan to finish my round of P90X on April 26, and from there I will decide if I am switching to a classic (doing lean right now) round or if it'll be time to bring on Chalean!
So everyone. What are YOUR goals? And you over there, what are YOUR goals? Write 'em down, hit 'em, and make new ones!
Off to class now!

Hey all! A committed P90Xer here as well! It's refreshing to see a thread on here that I can relate to as I am not a person that needs coddling. I've been lurking on this forum for awhile, but rarely have anything to contribute because of the "tone" of the other threads. It is nice to see some people on here with the same motivation as I have.
Anyway, just thought I'd say hello!0
