Okay, I just had the WORST night at work.

I had to work at the other store tonight because my boss got fired and we needed to cover some shifts. I worked with this 20 y.o. guy who I've never met before. When I came in I introduced myself, shook his hand, etc. He was playing solitaire at the cash register.

As the night proceeded he found out that I exercise a lot and eat healthy. Well, my way of life must REALLY offend him, because he would NOT SHUT UP. Kept telling me I was boring, I was a loser, I need to live life, etc, and I am a MANAGER. Not only that, I'm a HUMAN BEING.

Where in the he** does he get off thinking he can treat ANYONE like that?!?!!? Why do people have such an issue with those of us who make healthy life choices??!?!? Is there a problem with the fact that I choose NOT to get wasted on the weekends and have anonymous sex with random frat guys?!?!!?!?!

HE ACTUALLY MADE ME CRY WHICH REALLY TICKS ME OFF.

Tomorrow I'm going to inform both his manager and mine of how inappropriately he acted. But it still doesn't make me feel better. I'm tired of being called boring! I have hobbies! I love to read and write, rock climb, hike, lift, watch Simon Pegg movies....I MEAN COME ON. I am more interesting than some random drunk chick!!!!

Oh, and did I mention it lasted FIVE HOURS. And he did NO work. He played solitaire on his Ipod until it ran out of batteries and then he switched back to the desk. :explode:

    what an a-hole!

He's just jealous b/c you have more muscles than he does and he knows you can kick his *kitten* QUICK... I cannot stand it when people try to bring you down when they see that you are succeeding in something...

This is why I like animals more than people:angry:

Same here. There are so many awful people out there. I have never treated anyone like this and I don't understand how he (or anyone) thinks it's acceptable.

he is weak and intimidated. he is incapable of your dedication and he is jealous. don't give him any power to affect your mood or feeling. feel sorry for him or ignore him. he isnt worth your heart.

    It's all good girl.
Just flex your muscles when you're around him and say, "See this (flex) and this(flex) AND THESE (flex whatever else you can flex).. you can have these by getting off your *kitten*, stop playing solitare and let me train you"

Make him workout until he pukes.

LOL 'whatever else you can flex'

I tried not to let it bother me, but after 5 hours....it was really wearing on me. And other people have said it too. But not that many times, and usually just joking. He was really malicious. He said some other VERY rude things that I have a serious issue with. I would like to see him lose his job but I know that won't happen.
  • some people like to hate, if they can put you down make you cry then they don't have to look at the pathetic little life.
sorry I can't be there for the next 5 hours to tell you YOUR GREAT.
the good thing is when some dumb *kitten* like that gets in my head, the next day I have a great workout.
don't let the little people get you down, and if it gets really bad just kick his *kitten*.
    talk about bruising his ego

Yea, I am really in the mood for some sparring now. Too bad I don't have a heavy bag at home. Or him duct taped to my wall.

I guess because we are all either satisfied with our lives or focused on becoming happier, we all treat people with respect. It's ugly that people have to put others down to feel better.

I just hope he gets what he deserves... karma is a beyotch. The universe will make sure he gets his fair share.

I had a similar experience when I worked at a clothing store. I was very quiet & shy. I kept to myself. One of the mgrs had it out for me. Would say little comments to me and thought I wasn't going to say anything... welp.. she was dead wrong. I gave it right back to her infront of costumers and employees. I know, not the best way to deal with it but I wanted to show everyone that I was not the one to be messed with. After that day, she did not say an inappropriate thing to me or about me.

Sometimes you just have to deal with things in a different manner.

I'm glad you stuck up for yourself!

I was tolerant for a long time...I'd just say I'm not boring, I hike, etc.

At the end of the night after he told another employee that I was a b*tch over the phone, I said, "You're a real *kitten*. You really act like an *kitten*. That's unnecessary."

Did you say he is about 20 years old? Ok, Judge Judy is my idol. I love her because she gives a good, swift kick in the butt to folks who need it. She always says a 20 year old man is not a man, he is a little boy. Little boys are not mature enough to know how to behave when they are intimidated. Hence, he made an *kitten* out of himself and tried to make you feel badly when he was just really feeling like an insecure little boy. I am sorry he ruined your night, but YOU ARE STRONGER THAN HE IS and this too shall pass.

    Have a better night!!! :flowerforyou:

I love Judge Judy too! You are so right. He was ridiculously immature. The young men at my store are so kind and funny and hard workers. They are just a few years older than he is but just better people. I shouldn't let it get to me. I think the most upsetting part is just that people like him exist. I haven't been treated like this in my entire adult life. It sort of brings me back to when I was in middle school and got made fun of a lot. I figured in my 20's it would end. :ohwell:

LOL that would have been awesome! I definitely envisioned myself giving him a right hook to the temple :grumble: But I have to make sure he was the only one creating a 'hostile work environment'.

*sigh* I hate stupid people, and it seems like the world is getting more and more full of them. I am so sorry that anyone would make you feel like that just because you're living your life clean and healthy... And it sounds like the guy was trying to make you feel bad because he was intimidated by how well you're doing. I can't get over the fact that he thought it was appropriate to behave in such a way towards anyone in a work environment... Especially since you're in management. Even if you were a lower-level employee, he still shouldn't have treated you like that. I hope he gets his rear end chewed out, and I hope you don't let him keep you feeling down. Just remember, WE all admire and love ya!!!:drinker: :drinker:

Yea, the assistant coach I used to work with got fired for sexual harassment. It just seems like people don't understand what's appropriate. Too many of the managers are really young and have little or no experience in retail. If neither of the managers do anything, I'm going to talk to the district manager.

I have had people say some very rude things to me about my running. But this guy sounds like a real idiot. I still think he is just jealous and very immature. He doesn't know how to respond to a strong woman.
