Nutritionally/Health speaking & taste speaking what is the best milk replacement out there? We drink mainly 2 percent (I used to drink skim but the kids drink 2%). I've been having stomach issues lately after eating dairy so am looking for other options.

I really like So Delicious Coconut Milk - Original. It's tasty and is a bit smoother tasting than almond, rice, or hemp milk (to me). You can also get it in unsweetened or vanilla.

i like plain soy milk0

I really like almond milk. I use Vanilla or Chocolate for drinking and unsweetened for smoothies and cooking.0

I drink both since I only like cow's milk in my coffee, so I buy Grass Point Farms for coffee and I LOVE Silk Original Coconut Milk for everything else. It tastes great in smoothies, in oatmeal, on cereal, etc. But I've tried all of the "alternative" milks and don't mind the taste of any of them with the exception of hemp milk. While its *really* good for you, in my opinion it doesn't have the best taste and is relatively expensive.0

chocolate oat milk!!! Love it!0

I use soya milk on porridge, in coffee or for baking. I prefer rice or almond milk on cereal though.0

Vanilla/Chocolate Soy Milk.. or Organic Milk.
For some odd reason, Organic Milk does not affect my stomach as much as normal milk does.0 -
Unsweetened Vanilla Almond. It's creamy and has a good flavor!0

Its hard to really judge based on others. Everyone told me 'Soy milk! Drink it!' and when I did, it wasn't very good (IMO). :P
I drink Vanilla Rice Milk; mainly because my boyfriend has a milk intolerance and I don't feel like buying multiple milks. :P But it's okay.
The main thing that got me to the point of drinking it regularly is thinking, "This is NOT milk. It shouldn't taste exactly like milk." Many times people assume its just going to taste like milk.
My advice is to try them all!0 -
I prefer Almond milk. I buy the unsweetened regular to use for my protein shakes. If I had to buy it for drinking plain, I'd probably opt for the vanilla flavored one. I despise the taste of soy milk and wasn't impressed by the taste of coconut milk.0

unsweetened vanilla almond milk for smoothies, cereal, etc. plain unsweetened almond milk for cooking. I'm getting into making oat milk at home, though, so my favorite may change soon.0

Nutritionally, milk is such a fabulous food so it's hard to compete. If you have an intolerance though, as you say, next would be fortified soy drink but in my opinion it tastes really bad - I think you can get used to it though. Rice and almond milk are much lower in protein. They may meet the functional needs you have ie you won't feel like you have to have dry cereal, but nutritionally they aren't even close. If the problem is lactose intolerance then you could also try lactose free milk or enzyme replacement supplements e.g. lactaid to be taken with the milk (although people don't seem to like these, can't off the top of my head remember why).0

Unsweated almond milk, it even has more calcium than regular milk0
-
Soy milk (I use the vanila flavor) has vitamin b12 as well as other health benefits and it tastes good.0

Try Lact-aid milk which sometimes takes care of the dairy intolerance thing. Watch the protein amounts in all the alternative milks, I like soy and almond milk, but they have less and almost no protein in them, respectively, compared to regular milk.0

I don't like to drink milk, but I use either coconut milk or almond milk for my protein shakes.0

Almond Milk is what I use.
Less salt and fat.0 -
I vote for vanilla almond milk.0

I like unflavored almond milk the best. I've never been a milk drinker, but I use it on cereal and smoothies. For cooking, I usually use coconut milk. As others have pointed out, alternative milks are low in protein, but for many Americans who consume meat, protein intake is adequate without dairy.0

Almond milk is good AND you can make it yourself. It's very simple to do....0

I prefer the unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Just 40 calories per cup, and twice the calcium of 2% cow milk.0
-
I like Almond milk the best. The carton in my fridge says it has 50% calcium than cow's milk... good or bad IDK. Still...I haven't drank cow's milk in ages and use only a little in cooking and baking. I eat cheese but not mass amounts, so I feel the extra calcium does me good. I do not take supplements.0

If you don't want to drink cow's milk, for whatever reason, there are quite a few alternatives. I've tried several of them when I was trying to eliminate dairy from my diet, and none of them were quite what I was hoping for, but...
Soy milk: Too much soy isn't good for anyone. I stay away from soy as much as possible. Plus it tends to taste bitter to me.
Almond milk: It was OK. It tasted like drinking almonds, though.
Rice milk: My standard go to. I liked rice milk for whatever reason the best.
Coconut milk: Another standard go to. Coconut milk ties right up there with rice milk.
Why are you cutting milk? I'm just curious. Some people cut it because it's too many carbs, too much sodium, etc. I personally have found nothing wrong with milk so I kept drinking it after it was determined dairy doesn't affect the pain levels associated with my condition.
(ETA: Nevermind about the reason. I guess I should read more! If you don't like Lactaid [I never did], I would recommend buying a container of one and giving it a try. Everyone has their own preferences. Good luck!)0 -
I buy Kirkland Organic Plain Soymilk in bulk from cosco. I just use it in cereal and oatmeal. I only drink water, diet tea, and diet lemonade.0

I like rice milk. I used to enjoy soy milk but I've developed allergies towards nuts so I can't really drink it anymore. There is almond milk as well but that slightly bothers me as well now, so what I drink is rice milk.0

Have you tried coconut milk? I like that as well, though it's higher in calories than almond.0 -
I would not recommend going with soy milk but that's just me. I still drink milk and I also drink unsweetened almond milk.0

Most of my sisters have problems with lactose intolerance. They swear by almond and rice milk.0

Rice milk has a similar consistency to skim milk, so I use it in cereal. Almond milk consistency is closer to whole milk. Try all of them!0

For those who prefer almond milk, does anyone drink one that is not filled with a whole bunch of additional ingredients? I have an allergy to cows milk and I love the taste of almond milk, but I'm not thrilled with the additives that companies like Silk and Almond Breeze put in them. I know one can buy unsweetened, but even that has additional things. I've taken to making my own, but I'm wondering if anyone has found an almond milk on the market that is made of just almonds (and water)...or at least natural ingredients...0
