Several ladies at my gym have implants. My opinion will be unpopular on this, but I don't like them. I can understand if you're very small and just want to look proportional, or if you're doing a reconstruction after a mastectomy, but otherwise, I don't think they're worth the risk. There's always a risk (however small) of infection, and of course, death, plus the risk of the anesthesia. There WILL be a scar, no matter how small, and often there is loss of sensitivity of the nipple, especially if you get a breast lift.

None of the women I know do any chest work at the gym. They can't, because of their implants. Go under the muscle, and they look more natural but limit your exercise. Go over the muscle and you can do more lifts, but they look faker. And lately, the trend is to go bigger and bigger. I see these relatively small women with ridulously huge boobs that are obviously fake. They look like they're about to topple over. The men follow them around the gym like they're dogs in heat since they always wear very tight and low-cut tops to show off their assets.

As an older woman who lost weight, I did research it, but decided it wasn't worth the potential risk, scarring, loss of sensitivity, and detriment to my lifting regime. Plus, the thought of bags of chemicals stuffed in my chest kind of grosses me out. I would never give up my chest workouts just to get more male attention. If a man doesn't like mine the way they are, then he can hit the road.

I recomend you do LOTS of research, and not just what your surgeon tells you. Bodybuilding.com has many threads in the Women's section about this, discussing the pros and cons. No matter what the doctor tells you, it IS a major surgery, and carries the risks that come with that. Make an informed decision, and best of luck either way.

This is not entirely correct. Many of the restrictions depend on doctor opinion. I have implants, under the muscle, and I still do chest workouts. I got them while in the military and still did push ups! It is a common misconception that you cannot do chest workouts with unders. Do your research and check with doctors first!

TO the OP: Do your research and decide what is right for you. Getting implants is a very personal decision and not one to let popular opinions influence. If you want educational resources please feel free to send me a message. I know quite a few that will be helpful in making your choice.

I'd lie, if I said I have never thought about it. But to be honest, I am too scared. I don't want to look ridiculous with boobs under my chin, I am scarred of unnecessary surgerey, then there's this massive health scare in regards to imp, ants manufactured in France here at the moment. They feel akward to touch...

On the other hand, if you think it is sthe right thing for you to do, do your research, don;t just go for the cheapest one on offer and make the best of it

Anyone had one and what do you think? I am really worried that when I lose weight I will lose the girls and need a back up plan :-) x

I had my done last year and I have no complaints; my doctor was awesome, the recovery went well and the price was within budget. After nursing and weight loss I lost lift and shape so I went from a 34 B (before kids) to a 34 A to a 36 D. I have saline, high profile and under the muscle so they have a natural look and shape. I feel comfortable in my skin. I'm not telling you to go for...just my opinion and experience.
It's all on how you feel and what makes you happy. :)

The risk of death is so small it's not even on the charts. Infections, scars and other complications do occur. Please do plenty of research and make informed decisions based on facts and NOT opinions or random statements meant to scare you.

You CAN work your chest after have a breast augmentation. It is completely false that going over the muscle gives you a fake look. Research all approaches and make an informed choice on what is best for you. I personally find over the muscle gives a more natural appearance but not all ladies want a natural look. Back to working out, some surgeons say to stay away from chest exercise and others don't. I've been back at the gym working ALL of my muscle groups, including my chest, since I was 5 weeks post op and I'm doing just fine :).

Not all women get implants to get the attention of men. Even without boobs I could throw on some short shorts and have men follow me around all day. It's ridiculous to assume ALL women get boob jobs to impress men. I'm happily married and had my implants after marriage. Obviously, I have no desire to impress random men therefore I dress conservatively and respectfully.

Scars and inevitable but I don't know a one lady who regrets her breast augmentation due to the scars. I had mine inserted through my armpit and even when I point out my scars to people they still can't see them. It look like a normal wrinkle in my armpit, not a scar at all. Don't let scars scare you away. That's silly.

For the "chemicals" being shoved in your chest. Again, research, research, research. Silicone does contain chemicals and research it before you get it. If silicone is not for you then look into salines. Saline is nothing more than the same solution they give you in the hospital for fluids via an IV.

Most surgeons are going to educate you about the REAL risks of breast implants. They will also educate you on placement and which type of implant is best for you. Surgeons don't typically lie to get your business. They are rich. They don't NEED your business, lol. Be informed. Do your own research. Not all women want to look like porn stars from getting a boob job BUT more power to the ladies that do. If they want to show them off, good for them. If they don't then good for them too!

Good luck sweetie. Do what's best for you and avoid opinions and stick to facts :)

And before I get flamed or torn to pieces about my choice...

I was completely flat. Even when I was breast feeding I still didn't fill a cup. I love myself, I love my body, I even loved my little boobs but I wanted to look feminine in my clothes.

You shouldn't be flamed for a personal decision. Glad you're happy with your decision <3

I'd just be scared it'd ruin my lifts (very important to me)
and honestly? even being barely an "A", i've never heard a man complain

If performance athletically wasn't so important to me, i MIGHT have considered them...

They do NOT hinder you from lifting or sports.

I love my boobs (38E) and if the disappear I will getting a boob job. Hubby has only asked that I wait until after we have children. (My Mum went from a 32B to a 32FF when pregnant with me and dropped to a 32D afterwards, was never small again, hence why he's asked me to wait.)

I've lost a lot of weight. Went from a size 10 to a 4, and even with strength training, I never changed in my bust. I think it varies from woman to woman.

I'm not sure it bothers me that mine are smaller now. I'm down 3 sizes and 2 cups since I started losing weight. I would however like to have them in the same place they were when I was younger. Once I'm done, I'm going to get a breast lift. I don't believe that an augmentation is appropriate for ME, but I would love to at least have them looking perkier.
I have had 3 kids and nursed all three of them, so they have served their purpose well. Now .. I have another purpose for them.
My husband doesn't mind whatever I want to do, but I think I can see a twinkle in his eyes at the thought.

As a voice from the other side I would think seriously about getting a breast enlargement due to the physical side effects of larger breasts. My Freshman year of college my boobs went from a B to D with minimal weight gain. I've steadily gone up over the years was "J" during pregnancy and breast feeding and am now a "F" after losing almost 30 lbs (I've lost band size but not boob size!).

I have a lot of back problems, can't find cute bras or clothes because if I fit so I don't look like a porn star I look pregnant because clothes are too big or I look trashy. There really is no happy medium.

The back pain is the worst!!! When I'm done losing weight I plan on having a reduction because the pain is that bad and I need a chiropractor to survive!!!

Good luck with your decision. It's a very personal one and only you can decide what is best for you. (but I wouldn't do it)!!!

My advice if you want it would be to find a good surgeon and get a natural size for your body. Girls that are tiny and get overly big boobs that look unatural usually get an eyeroll from me, but I was a 38F before my breast reduction so I have the opposite view about it! lol. I sometimes have no sympathy because I can not imagine a girl wanting bigger boobs with all the side effects that come with it. lol. I was an extremly big size and had to have back surgery for a burst disc and decided it was time to get a breast reduction as well for the sake of my back. And I can tell you, I am the happiest C cup there has ever been!!! lol. If I was a smaller pant size like in the 4/6 range, I would actually want them smaller like a B. I am a 14 now and a C seems perfect for my body type. I fit into shirts without stretching them or the botton coming undone. lol. This is the first time ever that I have been able to run without wearing 2 bras at the same time or having to tape them with duct tape! I don't get headaches from the neck and shoulder pain, and I can pick cute bras off the rack now and wear them! I feel like when you don't have them, you want them, and when you have too much of them, you want to get rid of them. lol. Just be careful about the size because I only had 4 pounds removed from my chest, and that made a world of difference! My friend told me hers weigh 2 pounds on top of what she already had and I have a feeling her back is going to pay for it in the long run! It sounds like so little weight, but because of where it is carried, it can cause a lot of long term pains.

Just think of a few things before you get them, and if it still seems worth it to you, then get them :)
    1. Back and shoulder Pain
    2. Laying on your tummy is awkward and uncomfortable sometimes depending on size.
    3. Cost of surgery, scars, and heal time...and oh yeah..you could die during or after surgery from complications.
    4. When you are 60, they will be unaturally perky, with wrinkles!

    but

    1. You will feel better about yourself and in turn most likely live a more fulfilled life.

You have to do what makes you happy! I had the reduction because even though I liked having "big boobs", they were more of a pain, literally. Now that they are gone, I realised It wasn't the big boobs I really liked, it was the fact that having bigger boobs made me look thinner because they held shirts away from my gut. lol. I have to live with the scars now and hearing people's opinions on it whenever it's mentioned, but to me, it was worth it because I am happier with the life I have now being able to jog and lay on my stomach without having huge mounds under there. lol.

If you want them, get them! Be Happy!

If you do have the surgery, I want to warn you if you are on birth control during the surgery because I was on birth control during my surgery and I got a pulmonary embolism a month after surgery which they said was partially from surgery and partially from birth control. And yes, I was walking right after surgery and active! MY surgeon didnt metion BC is not good when you have surgery, so I like to spread the word about it now. Just to raise awareness :)

GET A GOOD SURGEON! Start looking months before you are ready to have the surgery! Look at his credentials, his online reviews, his before and after photos, and ask lots of questions. You should have a minimum of 3 consults to see which doctor makes you feel the most comfortable and to get quotes about different types of implants and sizes. Don't rush it! My friend had her surgery planned 1 week after her consult and I think she didn't put a lot of thought into it and got a very big size for her frame and it the long run, it's gonna hurt her back more badly and she's gonna wish she didn't get them so big. PLEASE PLEASE Get different consults, and give yourself time to make a decision on size and type. There are so many different ways to do the implants. Some go over, some go under the muscle....that can make a difference on your heal time and if you are very active, could effect some of your routine short or possibly long term.

I hope you don't need to have one, but in case you do, you are doing the right thing by researching it now and giving yourself time to process and make the decision :)

And I forgot to mention, that I know not all women get them too big for their bodies and some women get them for reconstructive reasons like after a mastectomy. I do not have a hatred for girls wanting bigger boobs or boobs period. I just think its so ironic how girls with smaller boobs want more and then go so big, they have the same issues as the girls with nturally born big ones would give anything to get rid of them. lol. I guess we all want what we can't have...well I guess now we can, but it has it's costs! Be knowledgeable! Be careful! Be Happy :)

I'm sorry you have these issues. I hope your reduction goes well and you get the relief you so very deserve.

I think as far as implants go most women do not choose to go that large. Most commonly I see D's, DD's and around that size. It's a personal thing and she is right, the larger you go the more risks you are taking. Good luck.

the thing that bothers me is you have to get them redone. I don't mind getting one boob job, even investigated the idea of a breast lift and implants. But they told me I have to have it redone every 10-15 years and the thought of having a major operation to look forward to every 10 years was a bit daunting and totally put me off. YOu don't know what the price will be in 10 years, maybe you won't be able to afford it.
18 year olds getting implants, then they have to have them redone at 30 and again in their 40's and again in their 50's . thats a lot of money and a lot of big operations.

    This is false.

You MAY need a redo at some point in your life but you most certainly do NOT have to go back at certain times (every 10 years) and have them redone.

Some women have their implants for 30+ years with no additional surgeries. You may need another surgery at some point but you MOST likely will NOT need another surgery.

A common misconception is that the fake breasts will stay "perky". They will sag the same as natural breasts. A lot of redos are for women that had that misconception and now need a lift to fix their sagging.

Another common group is women who were afraid to go "too large" initially and regret their size and go back to get them larger. A few even regret going too large and go back to get them smaller.

Of course there are also the ladies who unfortunately have a complication and require additional surgery.

Again, Research. Don't believe everything people tell you.

I'm small. After pregnancy and breastfeeding, never being more than a B cup, my breasts shrank but my rib cage didn't, and it left me a very hard-to-find 38AA. I hate not being able to wear a lot of v-neck clothes.

But generally, smaller is more convenient. It's nice to run without worrying about how supportive my bra is. I choose clothes that don't accentuate my pear-shape. Plenty of fashion models are way smaller than me, anyway.

If you're thinking about implants, rent some porn movies to see what they look like in real life. A woman lying on her back with her naked breasts sticking straight up in the air looks pretty bizarre to me.

And as someone else said, they won't feel the same to your partner, and your partner's touch may be less arousing to you. How I look to people I don't even know isn't that important to me.
