Hi everybody! I have shed the 3 lbs I put on during all the (spring break/omg my brother got another DUI) excitement. So I am at 211, and holding. I HOPE HOPE HOPE I can get rid of at least a pound by next Tuesday!!

I have not run since the 10K, I am so scared that the ankle will flare back up. I walked on the treadmill for like 15 minutes, and it immediately started hurting. IDK what to do. Maybe I need new shoes.

We are one week away from standardized state testing at school, I am sooooo nervous. I know my kids are prepared, but I want them to do well so badly. We won't know till next August, but this is what we have been busting our *kitten* for all year. sigh.

welcome to all of our new friends!!!!!:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Shoes do not affect ankels. They more affect shins. You should replace them every 300 miles though.

thompson- maybe you can help me figure out what I did- the pain is on the outside edge of my ankle bone, just under the bump, and wraps around to the bottom edge of the sole of my foot. it also extends upwards, from the ankle bump, right behind and following the bone up towards the outer calf area.
the consensus is a strain, and that nothing but time will make it go away

how do I know when I have put 300 miles on my shoes? this pair didn't come with an odometer:laugh:

Are you sure you didn't sprain it? I've sprained both ankles twice(ouch) and it was always left with a feeling like I was bruised underneath the ankle bone, and it did wrap around where you posted. Do you have any bruising there, too? When you roll your foot to the side, does it hurt?

no, it hurts when I point my toe, though. no bruising, no swelling, no discoloration of any kind, and it didn't hurt till the day after the race.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! I suppose I should give you gals a bit of my history/background. I am 26 year old newlywed (married on March 21) and a recovering
Bulimic (3.5 years without an episode) who is looking to learn how to eat healthier, move more, and get in shape the right way. I am in the proccess of training for my 2nd 5k with my husband.

I trained for one last year, but messed up my knee just 2 weeks prior to the race. I managed to jog/walk it thanks to a steroid shot and a knee brace. Then I had to go on total rest for 4 months. Not fun! So I am finally cleared to run again, and I am easing myself back into things. The race is in June (we've been training since January) and I am super excited about competiting this year.

I know that I am a day late, but I will go ahead and share that my weight was 138 on Tuesday morning.

Hmm... I'm not sure, but I get really bad shin splints, but not just on the front of my shins. I get them on the outside of my leg, too. Turns out, you can get shin splints in areas other than just the front. But that feels more like a muscle strain. I'd try running with an ankle brace, like one of the ace bandages you can buy at the pharmacy? It might help to have some extra support on there. Either way, I hope you start feeling better!!!

    Kimlee-Welcome to the thread!

So since you're training for this 5K, are you just looking to maintain and eat healthier? Or still looking to loose weight in the process? Just curious so we can help encourage you to meet your goals. Thanks for the background. Once again, glad to have ya.
  • Christine -- how are you doing on the couch to 5K thing? How long will you get to be in the states on your visit?
Resa -- is the volcano still causing problems? you must be siked to have a fellow X-er in Meg:laugh:
Lucky Lep -- wish I had some great doctorly advice for you, but unless you grow 2 more legs and eat grass, I got nothing man.

Where in the heck is Mister Sister?
  • Welcome new people :flowerforyou:

Today I got a ton of exercise in, run this morning, an hour walk with the pup, then yoga tonight :drinker:

Meals today : coffee, no sugar vanilla creamer, string cheese, apple, sushi, 3 crab ragoons (sp?)

Ari- I had sushi and thought of you!

Kacee- Is it starting to warm up there?
  • I was avid jogger many moons ago and have just started my own challenge to get back into running this week. First step training for a 5k and next an 8k. I find my moving motivation with podrunner intervals. It is a FREE download with I-tunes that gives you fun music to run to and helps you train over a several week period. I wish you all steady feet and determination as the pursue your goals

Okay, so I had nothing for breakfast-long story short-no time, ran late, grumpy kids...
    Lunch-club sandwich, some (gasp!) fries
    Dinner-vegetarian thin crust pizza

Calories so far burned... 1,138 from playing 2 hours of volleyball

Goodnight, and I'll post more tomorrow!

I would like to lose a few pounds in the process. At the height of my ED, I weighed in at about 120 - I know that I don't want to get that tiny. But I would like to see if I could lose to 130 by doing things the right way.

It sounds like a sprain to me. Try wearing an ankel brace. Or maybe you are not wearing proper shoes for your foot style, ie high arch, flat foot and things like that. I say just take it really easy which I am sure is not what you want to hear.

I am doing the couch to 5 k. I am still not good at running at all. I have done two 5 k's since you were gone. I got 9 min off my previous time but was not able to run the whole thing. I ran and walked. If we go home we will be there about 3 weeks. The good thing is if I can find someone to watch my girls I have access to a gym. I'm still scared to gain weight though.

oh PS, workout or running shoes should be replaced every 3 months. It does not go by the sole because that does not wear down. The support inside wears down very fast if you are wearing them often. I figured out my miles and I should replace my shoes like every 2 months, yikes that is expensive.

Good tip on teh shoes. I tried running yesterday in my old sneaks - and the foot pain was not pretty. Thankfully, I stopped mid-way and changed into my new sneakers. I run about 6-10 miles a week, so I should be good for a little while.
  • I wonder if that is the same for all sport type of shoes. Cuz I usually wear nike air max running shoes and these super cushiony not only in the soul but everywhere. I have decided that I am going to switch and one day run on the treadmill, because my legs are starting to hurt from running on the concrete.

Im going for my run now everyone so I will report back later :flowerforyou:
  • Good grief all these 5k people running around....am I like the only one who isn't doing a 5K right now or has done one recently?????:ohwell: What the heck happend? Is everyone losing weight and getting energetic? The nerve.
  • Christine, that's great that you did that though, 2 5K's? wow chica, you've come a long way:wink:
  • I think we are all doing the couch to 5k to give our couches a break

I am supposed to do a 5k in June, but I have realized that I am not great at running outside, but when I was on the treadmill today I ran faster longer, and burned more calories :noway:

Maybe I am just lazy when I run outside? to busy looking at the scenery he he he

That's interesting because I find that I am faster when I run oustide then when I run on the treadmill. I guess each person is different. Or maybe it's the sweltering heat in South GA - makes me want to hurry up, get done, and get back inside my air-conditioned house.

Hi I'm new to this site, and love it! It would really help me to be held accountable to anyone other than myself, for those days when I want to eat a whole carton of B & J's (my weakness!)
I do run, so I'm good on the challenge. Right now my leg is hurt since last week, but prior to that I was running about 18-20 miles a week. I've been running for about 3 years, but no weight was coming off. I used to think because I ran, I could eat whatever I wanted, but since joining MFP, i see that it does matter what I eat, and am motivated to take some weight off. Think how much faster I will run if I loose 20 lbs!

I am pretty sure it is for all shoes if you are wearing them to work out in. Especially doing things like running in them puts a lot of wear and tear on them. You also should have seperate shoes for workouts and everyday wear. I know what you mean about hurting after running outside. There is a huge difference.
  • Welcome Andora! We are always happy to have more people join our little group and its nice to have such a seasoned runner with us :flowerforyou:

Kimlee- We live in polar opposite climates  It is FINALLY starting to warm up here in MI, so I am super excited to be outside to run

Christine- where in the states is home for you?
