Just wanted to update you on my hummus situation...I used the non tahini recipe you gave me and added 3 fresh garlic cloves instead of the powder, about 1/3 cup of roasted red peppers, and about 2 tsp of ground chipolte pepper for more spice. OMG! Yummy! I am eating it for a snack tonight with some pita bread. THANK YOU SOOOO much for the recipe! I feel complete now....LOL :blushing:

My husband is stationed out here. I love it but I miss the little things like Trader Joes, Micheals and Joanne Fabric stores, farmers markets, etc.... I guess you can't have everything! I do get to go to the beach everyday though!

I live in a small town in Wisconsin and we don't have any of those stores either. And we don't have warm weather. In the summer we do have a beach but I'm sure it is nothing compared to yours.
Enjoy your time while your there. You never know where you might end up next. And thanks to both of you for serving our county.:flowerforyou:

And on hummus, I had some for a snack today. But I need some pita's and of course it's either make my own or drive an hour. For now I'll stick to triscuts.

Does anyone know what Sabra does to get their hummus so creamy? My sis had some and man was it GOOD! I always make my own but my food processor must not be stong enough to completely pulverize those beans...either that or they add something. Any ideas?

I made my egg salad sammich with hummus instead of mayo today... It was good, but I like my egg salad a little creamier, so next time, half hummus, half mayo... lol
  • ok, I broke down and bought hummus, it is gooooooood. I bought 60 pepper hummus, a bit spicey, think I may go for the roasted garlic next time.

Yum - just checking in. I had hummus for breakfast this am with some true north pistachio crisps. It has been very enlightening reading this thread while munching my hummus. One question, csingleton24, if you're there - whats poke?

Also, thanks all you for great receipe ideas. :drinker:

I haven't had hummus today but my favorite thing is to get greek hummus, and pocket pita, and spread the hummus inside the pita, then slice up tomatoes and put them in the pocket with the hummus! and if your calories allows it its also tasty to put a little avocado, or even some pineapple on the inside! (its a salty sweet thing.. like chocolate covered potato chips...)

    haha i <3 hummus immensely

Poke is raw fish (usually Ahi) cut up and mixed with seaweed and kukui nut relish. I like it, but sometimes I just get poke'd out!

UPDATE on my homemade hummus: My 12 year old son ate it today with some whole wheat pitas and LOVED it! I'm so glad I can make it without the tahini!

Thanks for the compliment...I'll actually be 34 next month!

I was wondering what other flavors are there of hummus? Now that I can make my own, I want to experiment with different kinds. The one I made was a spicy roasted red pepper one. I know of the classic or plain one. I seen some one mention lemon dill and roasted garlic....any other suggestions? I'm going to go on a hummus exploration next week!

csingleton, you will have to keep us posted on your voyage into the unknown depths of hummus! I just realized I have had no hummus for three days. I need an infusion. Or therapy. Off in search of hummus I go.

So, white beans instead of garbanzos? Interesting. No Trader Joe's around here, however.
  • Yes white northern beans! Very good! If you do not have one near you, they do have a website www.traderjoes.com
  • I was just going to make some hummus and thought of Tam

White beans make excellent hummus! you can just sub them in for garbanzos They are super creamy.
