No problem whatsoever with woman... It's what I am... maybe we aren't so bothered about it in the UK? Lady on the other hand has connotations of 'ladylike' which has never been a aim for me... ack! I suppose everything will bother someone!

Depends on the context.... if it's my BFF saying "Hey woman, whatcha doin' on Saturday?" It's not a big deal... but if it's a man (not necessarily, though sometimes, my husband (usually 'cause he is kidding and I talk back when he does that so it's a whole banter thing)) that use it in a way that is meant to demean me then yeah, I'll be peeved off.

I'm bothered by people with no sense of humor.

This thread has confused me ,how does one refer to a female then?

"Greetings, more intelligent gender" will suffice.

    Or just, "Hi."

Could probably be a generational thing...being called Woman was never a derogatory thing..so to this day doesn't bother me...don't mind Lady, babe, hun, etc..

    Just don't call me b***h!

And I hate being called Dear:grumble:

I don't mind a lot of these things. My husband calls me Woman when he's being silly (followed by "wheres my dinner?" :D)
No one else has ever called me woman, that I can recall.

I don't mind miss or lady. My friends and I always say "Hey, lady" as a hello.

    I do NOT like MISSY!

I am a grown woman. Don't call me Missy. One woman called me that and I wanted to slap her so hard.

Depends on context and the relationship of the person making the reference. Can be a term of endearment or a slap in the face. Just depends. There are certainly far worse terms which should never be used to refer to a woman.

No lol My boyfriend calls me woman all the time, it's usually followed by "make me a sandwich" or "do the laundry". It's a joke to us though.

My husband does this too! haha. He loves to say "make me a sandwich" because he knows how much it irritates me, lol.
