Does everyone take off their counter when they exercise? If I took my counter off while exercising I would not make it anywhere close to the 10,000 mark? The desk job really kills my walking. I try to get up and move around every hour but sometimes it just isn't possible.
Depends on what I'm doing. For calesthenics or strength training, no because the strength exercises don't add calories to my daily allowance. For aerobics, yes I take it off. (the trick for me is to remember to put it back on )
My goal with steps is to maintain the activity level I selected in the MFP set-up. I claimed "slightly active" which is in the range of 7500 to 9999 steps. 10,000 is active. http://walking.about.com/cs/measure/a/locke122004.htm When I record additional aerobic exercise, like tennis for instance, MFP increases my calorie budget. So... If I include my tennis in my steps and also record it as aerobic exercise, I will be claiming the exercise twice. MFP would increase my calorie allowance, and I wouldn't lose weight.

When I started doing this, I put it on in the morning and took it off at night - everything counted! And I struggled to make 10,000 steps. As I have been riding more on my bike, I have been taking it off before I ride and then put it back on when I get back.0 -
I'm still slightly confused. I put in my profile that I'm sedentary because I have a desk job. However, I do workout about 5 times a week. I do a combination of lifting, walking and jogging. Do I have my settings wrong? I don't know - just know that my steps are including my exercises I put it on from the time I wake up until the time I go to bed. I have been known to make a couple circles around the house if I'm short of the 10,000 mark.

03/03= 3134 forgot my fitbit at home for the moring. it would have been about 3k more steps
03/04= 3584 did climb 8 flights though... I was cleaning all day. So was moving just not taking that many steps. oh well. .
03/05= 8255 forgot the fitbit at home but downloaded it on my phone. Might be off a few steps.
03/06= 6855 close but no cigar..
03/07= 7233 a little better.
03/08= 6900 I should have walked a few more steps I could have reached that 7k.. Next time.

03/11= 3304 must have been lazy over the weekend. didn't really do much. I will get back on track this week.

03/14= 6212 Dang shy again... I too work at a sedentary job during the day. Walk at lunch. Hopefully with the Baseball season coming up I can up my steps. I will be working there and that involves a lot of walking.

3/6 = 2,262 * I had to stay home this morning to make phone calls before work. I worked an extra hour and after making dinner and eating I just didn't get out and walk. *sigh.*
3/7 = 5,190 * Egads! I worked an 8 hour shift, went to my son's school to withdraw him before 10am.... and totally fell flat after skipping lunch (didn't get a 'lunch' break until 5:30 pm - worked 10am- 6pm) so didn't walk for exercise at all.
3/8 = 5,130 * Another morning shift and no time to walk after work again. Tomorrow I don't go in until 1pm and the same for Sunday, so I hope to make up my steps lost the last three days then!
