I am going to bow out of the snack challenge for the next 40 days or so...I have been foaling here and that entails getting up every 2-3 hours. Ive been doing alright so far, but finding getting light headed from lack of sleep and no food past 8:00pm. It is a stressful time with not much sleep and Im wondering if not eating at all is helping or hindering at this point? I will try to keep it at a bare minimal if I have to cheat but don't feel Im being fair staying in the challenge...good luck to all of you and I will be reading posts and cheering you on from the sidelines...until foal season is over..chow for now..Lorena

Wow - I had houseguests this week-end so wasn't on mfp and it appears I missed a lot.

Wanda, how is your little boy? I remember trips to the hospital or up all night w/asthma w/my two older boys. Fortunately, they seem to have outgrown it for the most part, but my oldest still needs to use asthma med seasonally. Anyway, I hope you and your son are doing better.

Congrats to ngwife on passing the employment tests. Your life is so busy and stressful. I can't imagine what it must be like to have your husband deplying to Afghanistan and taking care of your baby on your own, etc. It's an awful lot. Bless you and your husband!

Lorena, sorry you won't be in this month's challenge, but I hope you'll still drop in. You are a role model!

I, on the other hand, am a disaster. I was making progress and then blew it this week-end. I have no self-control and then just give in. Suffice it to say, I haven't even had 1 night of no late night snacking. I feel confident, however, that tonight I will be back on track. Better late than never.

Congrats to all the rest of you for starting off right. Keep hanging in there!!

So, I have to join for May...
I took the April challenge (started on the 5th or 6th, but didn't fail to put food down by 8 pm for the rest of the month) so I figured, I'm doing just fine, who needs to join the May challenge, I can do this all by myself, right? WRONG. Since May 1st, I'm sneaking on snacks left and right, going over my daily calorie limit (waaay over...) and feeling upset about myself. I even stayed up late, just so I can have a few more bites. Yikes.

Hereby I'm joining again, and my cut off time is 8 pm.

ildi007, honesty is the first great step. It's so good that you trust us, because at the end of the day, this cheating is what most of us deal with, o/w we wouldn't be here, right? And congrats for sticking to it in April - this puts you next to the other winners of the month - not your fault that you joined late.

phatphanny, since you showed you have great self control I have a suggestion. Eat later, eat whenever you feel hungry, but just a little. Enough to take the hunger away. And then the day still counts. The purpose here is not to starve ourselves for the sake of looks, but to educate our will. And stopping after the right amount of food is to me a sign of awesome self-control.

To me, what we fight here is eating without control and putting in as many calories at night as we put in all day :ohwell: . It's not about one exception one day/night. It's just to me that crossing the line (or cut-off) makes me feeling like I've blown it. This is why I suggested resetting the counter in the first place. But I have to confess that this strictness has gotten frustrating at times and sometimes beyond the point where I would stick to it just for the embarrassment of having to report on a reset. There were times when I felt I circumstances should have dictated and overruled honesty, but well. Anyway, before people drop out because it is too hard, maybe we can have two threads in this challenge:
    - one in which people reset the counter every time they cheat
    - one in which people count how many nights they made it altogether in a month
Or maybe people can report at the end of the month on both.

This challenge is not supposed to discourage you, its suppose to help you. It's supposed to be as strict as it takes to help you change habits, while having a healthy life style. Sorry for the long post, I just slept too little the past couple of nights .

I'm in! I'm a night owl and my bedtime is around 3-4 am. I'm going to have a hard cut off at 1230 am. I'm looking forward to this. I think Ill set an alarm 10 minutes before 1230 so I know it's the cut off. I do best with deadlines. Hehe.

Thanks so much Zaza and Dewdrop for the sweet comments...IF I have to cheat I will make good choices and only eat something small to take the edge off. Ate an apple at 2:00am this morning and that kept me going til breakfast. This challenge has been a Godsend to me..the junkfood junkie that eats at night, every night had gone 2 months with NO food after 8:00pm. I cannot wait until foaling is over and I can get back to a normal schedule...and THANK YOU all once again for a "most important" challenge

Thanks, Zaza! I'm doing what I can the best way I know how. Most of the time things are pretty great, this month just happens to be the most challenging so far.

Made it to three nights! Woohoo! I worked out at 10pm after I put my daughter to bed and then studied until midnight. Thought I was going to cave and if I had it would've been an apple but I just loaded up on water and went to bed! Keep up the great work and good luck tonight!

Well I work night shift which means I work 4-midnight and I am up until 330am and on the weekends im up til 530am so Im going to do a cutoff time of 130 during the week and 330 on the weekends. Most times I dont even eat dinner until I get home from work which is hard enough in itself. GOOD LUCK ALL!!!

    Hi-
I've been bad again. But, finally, I made it to Day 1 last night!! I think using teeth-bleaching trays at my cut-off time helped. So, I think I'm back on track again.
    Zaza
PS I just took a quick look at prior posts. Good to see some familiar people (hello dewdrop, wanda, phatphanny, kerimcdonald, shannahrose) and some new ones to the challenge. Keep up the great work ladies!!

So, I made the first night! It's amazing how signing up helps, even if nobody sees what I'm actually doing! I left the house at 7 pm for a baseball practice for my son, took a healthy snack with me so I can have "dessert". By 8 pm I was done. It's such a great feeling to "make it".
Day two done in an hour...I know I can do it.
