has anyone here lost weight without having a gym membership?

I also just stay at home and work out. I have an elliptical in my family room as well as Zumba Wii and other workout games. I like being able to work out in the comfort of my own home. I have lost 15 lbs by just watching what I eat and working out in my home.0

Working out at home is. Wonderful. The catch is not getting distracted with other things to do. You must look at a certain room in your home as your own gym. You also must pick a regular time for you exercising...just as you would do if you went to the gym.0

Gym or no gym, isn't the issue. Its about getting results based on how hard/well you work. I've done both (together and at seperate times) and have seen results either way. You have to decide what is going to motivate you and give you the resources you need. I onLy have a gym membership when I feel like its a good time. Money and time are huge factors to me.
I do like having the gym option sometimes becuase there aren't the same distractions as at home. I'm one that would put off working out until my dinner is done the dishes are washed, the kid is bathed and then, crap, i need to rotate the laundry, oooh let me just pick this up really quick... oh I forgot to feed to dog then before I know it is almost midnight. If that isn't you and you are totally motivated and willing to do everything at home I say go for it, obviously it can be done. So many people have proven that here,
However, lots of places offer free trials, I suggest check it out as long as it isn't going to cost you anything. You may find you work harder (or smarter) by at least getting exposed to new equipment or by watching things others do.0 -
I gave up my gym membership because i found a tae bo class i love !!!!!!!!!!!0

I'm debating on if I want to get a gym membership or not. I would rather work out at home, but I feel like I would become more fit or even lose weight faster if I joined a gym rather then working out at home.
of course!! its simply about getting up and moving, eating right, and drinking lots of water! i almost found a great resource on Youtube.com called Body Rock! All of the workouts are designed for at home use with minimal items needed. the main lady on the video looks AMAZING!! its all about interval/circuit training. Good luck, and skip the gym!!0 -

good idea! shop around, and try the free stuff! and agree, just do what you feel works for you! i enjoy the gym because its just me time. i enjoy trying out the group fitness classes and the cycle machines. but mostly, the treadmills and ellipticals are easy to do every time and dont have the distractions of working out at home.0 -
Me! Well, I actually have a membership because we joined the local YMCA as a family but I've been exactly three times in the 6 months since we joined. I'm just not a gym girl! I workout at home 5 days a week to Jillian Michaels DVD's and am currently following the Spike diet plan (I am eating at 1200 cals 5 days a week, 2000 on Sat, and 3000 Sun to put me at a weekly defecit but still keep my metabolism humming). I'm down 17 pounds since the end of November with about 9 more to go until my goal weight.0

Even though I have even started, I have lost 3 pounds without going to the gym. I workout at home with Jillian Michaels DVD's and Shaun T's Rockin Bodies DVD's. I can also tell you that if I have had paid for a gym membership I still would not have made it to the gym so that would be a waste of money for me.0

I did MFP, Wii Fit and a stationary bike at home my first month. Lost 8.5lbs. Joined Planet Fitness at the beginning of month 2 and lost the same, 8.5. Now on month 3. I'm down a total of 19lbs in less than 3 months. I plan to do the 30 Day Shred AND go to the gym. It's really personal preference, but I feel I burn more calories and get a better workout at the gym.0

i love my gym membership...it's very motivating. i see the same peaple every day. worth the $$$!!!!0

I've lost 28lbs. since Jan. 4th without going to a gym. I watched my calorie intake and about 4 weeks ago added treadmill work from home.
I did have a gym membership that was sucking $20/month out of my account but I recently cancelled it.0 -
I would go to the gym if I could but I live out in the country and its too late by the time I get home as it is. I just mostly walk and do some walking and heavy maintenence around the house. I try to walk at lunch as well.0

I've lost all my weight at home, pushing play or hitting the pavement!
It can be done )0 -
I have lost 37 lb w/ no gym membership. I do Jillian Michael DVDs and Zumba classes. I am going to start running soon.
Good Luck!0 -
Wow, I guess you know by now that you definitely DON'T need a gym membership to lose weight! I've lost 13 pounds in two months and I never left my house. I call it the prison workout, lol. I walk or run back and forth across my house and do yoga workouts with The Biggest Loser on my XBOX and that is all. Good luck!0

I have lost 114 lbs. in the last 18 months without a gym membership. I totally changed my eating habits (I used to only eat fried food, pre-packaged processed food and junk all the time), but now I eat a lot healthier and actually crave good foods. As for exercise, I use our Wii, sometimes some work out videos I get from the library and I walk and now run around our subdivision. I have only started running since December, but prior to that most of my weight was lost due to a healthier diet and mostly long walks outside. I have no gym equipment at home either.
However, it's going to be a personal choice of which will make you do more. I'd like to join a gym, but the few that are in our small town don't offer childcare and I have to have that since I stay home with my 2 year old. The ones that do offer childcare are at least a 15-20 minute drive away and I know I would make up excuses of reasons to not go (just wanting to stay home, weather, my son being crabby/sick, etc). So just do whatever works best for you. Everyone is different and find your motivation0 -
I thought I would use a membership too, so I got a trial. I did not like it at all. Because of all the bodies, there was always
a faint odor in the air,
people didn't clean the equipment after they were done using it... I prefer the clean outside air. Also, doing exercising outside brings your core muscles into use more often as you have to balance on the bike, and you can use the curbs as a mini stepper.
I love the comment "a faint odor in the air!!! laughed my *kitten* off on that one..so true!!0 -
<---- THIS GIRL!
I've lost 17 lbs since the beginning of January without setting foot in a gym. Granted, we do have a treadmill and a total gym machine in our basement, but I could easily have been doing my running outside. For me, I don't think I would like working out in a gym - I'm kind of a homebody
I have kept my portions in check, but still eat pretty much whatever I want.
Good luck!0 -
Me, I've lost 54lbs.0

-15 without setting foot in a gym!0

I don't have a gym membership (though I would if I had the spare money for it!) and I've lost 19lbs, not as impressive as a lot of people, but a loss in a loss right?0
-
Me! I lost 75lbs I gained during pregnancy through a healthy diet and exercise at home. Taebo, Slim in 6, P90x, jogging, bicycling, etc. My current faves are Zumba and Les Mills Pump!0
-
i prefer to work out at home, it is more comfortable to me and less time consuming. I also dont like to sweat buckets or not be able to breathe in front of people!:laugh:0
-
Save the money and buy your own equipment. I hated the gym, the machines were usually broken and the ones that werent were occupied or someone would be standing behind me waiting during a long run. It's just more comfirtable at home and I can turn whatever I want on.0
-
I lost 41 pounds with no gym membership. I changed my eating completely and I ran, used Wii Just Dance games and Hip Hop Abs to lose all my weight.0
-
i know this is not ALOT but i lots 8 pounds(just since the beginning of march) in 3 weeks just by watching what i eat and doing workout vids at home..but yes i am thinking about going to the YMCA because they have pools and workout stuff..but i am going to keep up the hard work i have been doing and lose more pounds0

My boyfriend lost over 15 pounds. He doesn't diet. He never had a gym membership. He works out once or twice a week doing circuit training and BJJ practice at the park with his friends.0
-
Jillian Michaels DVDs and a treadmill for me. Not a fan of the gym.0
-
Only join a gym if you have the motivation to go regularly, its expensive otherwise. I go to the local gym every day and the weight is falling off quite easily, beware though the gym does become addictive!!! Never thought I would hear myself say that lol. Moderate exercise is good wherever you do it!0
-
I lost 65 lbs with just an elliptical, dumbbells and some good running shoes! It can be done.0
