My 1st Rant: WE HATE VEGETARIANS AND VEGANS
Replies
-
Well I start this rant not because of "oh, i have prove to eat this and i have prove not to eat this." ...
it's because i want everybody to stop the crap about meat eaters and vegetarianism... it's childish, stupid and it's more of like the debate of men and women.
It's never gonna end if we can't accept each other.0 -
I'm a pescovegetarian and think exactly the same!
I totally hate people who judge others for what they eat ~ meat-eaters as well as snobbish vegetarian or vegan people.
Recently had a fight with a vegan friend who was always like "meat is murder" and I just couldn't do else than tell her to shut the **** up, because nobody wants to hear that...
I think it's up to everybody's self to decide what to eat, and it just sucks when people can't accept that0 -
It's be proven than vegetarian men live over 7 years longer than meat eating men and vegetarian women over 4 years longer. So I guess it's good for you as long as you you aren't hoping to die early!! Red meat and processed meat has been linked to cancer by Harvard.
Do you have a link for that? Without reading the study, my initial response would be that correlation is not causation.
I doubt they have proved it's the vegetarianism that caused them to live longer.
To clarify, I think deciding on a vegetarian/vegan diet means you've at least thought about your diet. It's likely that your reasonably well informed on nutrition as you need to be to maintain your diet in a healthy way. It could simply be the case that this awareness of what their eating is what causes the difference. There are many many people (generally non veggys) who never think about their diets, which tends to lead to obesity and related health issues.
To do a proper comparison, you'd need to compare nutritionally informed meat eaters to nutritionally informed vegetarians. If there is such a study then I'd love to read it.
are you FLIPPIN kidding me!!!!! she posted this thread in responce to a post that was bickering back and forth. her opening topic was 'cant we all just get along' someone post something regarding the OP's topic, and you start in with 'do you have a link for that!" am i the only one banging their head against their laptop?? what is with people on the forums these days.... infact everything you have written has nothing to do with what the original poster said, at all.0 -
I eat meat, but I agree that it's good to go meat free a few nights a week. For one, a lot of red meat in your diet isn't very good for you and for too, it's just a good way to find ways to be creative with some vegetables :].
No offense, but I don't think you've given any reason why it's good? Rather than why it suits personally (which is perfectly fine, I was questioning the claim that it's better for everyone).
You can limit your red meat without going vegetarian, and you can also be creative with vegetable without cutting out meat.
I don't see either as a reason why it's good for everyone to go meat free some days.0 -
I wouldn't say I hate either one but, I have found more often than not it's a veg* person that tries to make me feel like I am some kind of degenerate because I eat meat and that I have a major issue with. You know, for the people that don't want a nice juicy T-Bone steak and have no idea what they are missing because they have never had one don't act like I'm pure evil for wanting one. If all you want to eat is plants that's fine with me but I'm not gonna pass up my prime rib or porter house no matter what you say and to be honest I'm tired of hearing about it. So, please, eat your tofu hotdogs and leave us meat eaters alone to enjoy our dinners.
yeah okay... nobody is asking you pass up your prime rib or steak.. I would personally buy and GRILL one for you and hope you grow up... i'm not forcing you to eat tofu hotdogs (which is gross)0 -

Wtf? Are you serious?
I asked for a link because it sounds interesting and I'd like to read it. I like to inform myself as much as possible.
'Can't we all just get along' does not mean can't we all just agree. It's possible to disagree or as I did simply ask for more info without 'not getting on'. What the hell is the point of a forum if you can't debate things.
Someone made a claim, I asked them to support it. That's how people learn! That's how we improve our nutrition knowledge and our diets.
I haven't said a single word about anyone elses choices being wrong so I think you need to have a look at yourself in the 'all getting along' stakes.0 -
Im a meat eater - however I participate in Meatless Monday.... (So I straddle both sides of the fence!)
What I HATE though - are the posts that go along the lines of.... I've decided to give up meat/dairy/etc because I think it will help my weightloss... How can I do this?
Like seriously - you just woke up one day and decided to become a vegan with NO RESEARCH. This makes me cringe and want to slap stupid people often.
I didnt know that research was required to be a vegan or a vegetarian...we don't need to research to eat meat do we?? have I been doing it all wrong!?
I am an omnivore (I enjoy chicken, fish, meat and cheese...and also tofu, tempeh, almond milk and other food commonly found in a vegan/vegetarian diet) but should I decide to become a vegan for weight management reasons or other reasons, i certainly don't think it warrants a "stupid person" label or a slap from you, goes both ways.0 -
Lol, I know right... what a way to actually prove to us there are idiots in the world; both meat eater or vegetarians/vegans... lol
Certainly proven to me that there are some people incapable or reading or having a reasoned discussion on here anyway.0 -

I'm just saying if you need prove or anything, take it outside... go google and research post it on Nutrition and Food section.
I don't wanna hear anything whether vegetarianism is Good, or eat meat is Good... BOTH ARE GOOD, so accept it!0 -

did you happen to read the thread that i assume caused this one? i just thought it was so funny how her post was saying she was sick of the entire dabate, and you fuled the fire by starting the next one. please dont say im incapable of anything, thats just bullying me. we are talking about vegetarians and how you should be supportive of anyones lifestyle.0 -

Another poster made a claim in this thread (something you didn't seem to take issue with) and I simply asked her to clarify.
Not because I think she's wrong, because I don't know!
I never said either was good, the other poster did, remember?
I have nothing to accept, I don't have an issue with either choice. I'm simply interested in them. In future maybe you can just make clear in your title you don't want people responding to posts. Enjoy your thread.0 -

Bullying? Ah ffs.
I fueled the fire? I didn't make a claim either way, someone else did. I found it interesting and wanted more info.
I've never been anything but supportive of others lifestyles, my sister was a vegetarian for 10years.
I am not in any way advocating either position, I was simply asking why one was better (as someone else claimed).
I'm out. This is ridiculous. I'll be careful not to ask questions in future for fear of offending people. I'll just use google.0 -

oh my gosh... seriously :noway: well sorry about that. i thought the point of your post was to not attack each other throats at a moments knotice and get all caried away in a 9 page debate. honestly didnt think you wanted people asking about who whould live longer and posting links back in forth when it had nothing to do with what you wrote, at all. infact you said "the debate is stupid" and i guess that means start a debate. truly sorry and thanks for information. aparently a post starting with 'rant' cant be answered with a rant of mine :c cheers0

Personally I believe debate is never stupid, it's how we learn. Before this catastrophe of a thread I wasn't aware of the study the poster spoke of. Now I know it exists and I can go find it and read more. It has nothing to do with anyone else or bashing their choices.
Again, I have never claimed anything is good or bad, right or wrong (unlike others) but somehow I'm the one that got jumped on....0 -

Hi,
Yes I do agree with what you say, If someone has thought to make a healthy choice about their food, chances are they are less likely to be overweight, to drink too much, smoke etc, ie things that could lead to an earlier death. If you google Johanna Dwyer of Tufts University she has done some studies into it.
But I also think its because of my second point about the read meat and processed meat being "bad" for you (though I am sure everything in moderation is ok.) It's been all over the news in the UK this week, here is a link to the Harvard website for you www.health.harvard.edu/blog/study-urges-moderation-in-red-meat-intake-201203144490
I have been veggie for 10 years and I have no problem with people eating meat, (I cook it for my boyf most days of the week) and I do not impose my views unless someone asks me to. I do however have a problem with meat eaters who do not think about where their food has come from and what unnatural processes might have happened to it, such as pumping chicken full of beef protein, and also how the animal has been treated in life and death. For instance I only buy organic, free range meat and eggs. A really good book to read if you are interested in what happens to our food is called "not on the label" by Felicity Lawance.)
But I would also have a problem with a veggie person who didn't think about whether their food was GM or full of unnatural additives and preservatives.
I guess it's human nature for some of us to have issues with things we don't understand (I don't mean you btw,) whether it be race, sexuality, religion or food choices. Wouldn't it be great if people did their research before judging others!0 -

I agree with you... I started this thread because there's a guy who is... really immature to post something against vegetarianism. It's good you have family members that are vegetarians. and me personally think that it's stupid to bash both meat eater and vege eater lol0 -

Yeah, I'm aware of the red meat/processed meat stuff. I guess in my mind limiting those doesn't equal meatless though. There's plenty of other options incl all sorts of healthy fish, white meat etc. But that would just be my preference, I'm not great with vegetarian only food.0 -

Yes you are right, a balanced diet is the way to go. As I am veggie I have to think of creative ways to get enough protein (I usually get about 90g a day.)
But meat eaters propably have to think about getting enough fibre and vitamins etc from fruit and veg. I guess thats why they promote the 5 a day so much!
There is going to be pros and cons to every decision we make in life.0 -

That's right...I agree that we need balanced diet... as long as you're still breathing and healthy, no health risk. You're perfect to eat whatever you want.

I've been a vegetarian my whole life. I was born with an extremely rare (1 in 200,000) medical condition that requires me to limit my protein intake to much lower number than the average person...were I to meat, I would be limiting myself to like 1 piece of food a day (because meat is so high in protein)
As a child, I could only have 5 grams of protein per day (from food) and now as an adult, I am allowed to have about 30 grams of protein per day.
The only known "cure" to my condition would be to get a liver transplant (my liver is perfectly fine, and it would go to someone who needs a working liver - its a weird situation) so my body could breakdown the enzymes properly.
That being said if for some reason I woke up with a new liver tomorrow, next week or next month I still would not eat meat. The idea of consuming it at this point disgusts me. I've lived 27 years without it. I obviously don't NEED it in my life.
My husband eats meat. He understands why I can't and he's never judged me for it. I don't sit there and lecture him about why meat is evil. He eats vegetarian meals I make for us, without complaint. And he eats animal flesh in front of me and I don't sit there and gripe about it. It's his choice. I'm not his keeper.
But what I DO resent are the people who act like me being a vegetarian is a choice...what was the choice I was given, really - life or death? Should i have chosen the latter just to make everyone happy? People make me feel like I am an inconvenience because I order meals at restaurants with alterations. I will not APOLOGIZE for being born with (an) intolerance. Do diabetics apologize for having to watch their sugar? Do celiacs apologize for eating gluten free? People with Nut allergies? Fish? Lactose intolerance? But if I go into a restaurant, the glares, attitude, and guilt trips I get from the wait staff/owners/etc. is insane. I am expected to feel sorry for my "CHOICE" (vegetarianism) - even though it was never actually a choice. The fact that these people resent vegetarians is despicable.0 -

I wrote a short blog post kind of on this topic only focused a bit more on milk actually now that I think about it :-)

Haha sorry I don't think I was very clear. You know the silly questions that come from people who just decide to give things up but then say "but I'm curious how I will get my protein intake" or "I don't like tofu, what else can I eat" - it just seems weird that people (and these posts often start with "I've just decided to quit/stop eating" just being the operative word!!) just decide!!!! Surely if you decide you look into what you can and can't eat before committing to something! Maybe I'm just weird lol.0 -
I agree each to their own!! I don't force my views on anyone, its my choice not to eat meat, its others choice to eat it.
I give it to my children, they can make their choice as they get older.
Its the same for anything in this world though, being a mother I have come across breast vs formula, co sleeping/not co sleeping there are always the "........" vs "......."

I have both Diabetes and a severe peanut allergy. Unforutnately, people still treat me like I am some kind of crazy, picky eater and get exasperated when I can't/won't eat what they have in mind (including restaurants) Sorry... don't really want to die today! I totally get your frustration!0
