I'm new to protein powder. Is there a brand that I should avoid or try?

Depends on how you're going to mix it. In these recipes with a blender you can get by with some of the cheaper brands that don't mix or taste as well. If you are going to mix with just water or milk...it's really hard to beat Muscle Milk in my opinion. It just mixes so easily and tastes great. It is on the higher side calorie wise though.

I have a protein shake for breakfast everyday, really fills me up.

200ml of skimmed milk or orange/apple or pineapple juice (if I'm really watching my carbs I stick with the milk)
100g frozen berries (Iget a mixed bag or berries and chuck those in)
1 scoop unflavoured impact whey protein.
A drop of vanilla essence if you want too
Add a little water if too thick when blended

I buy the unflavoured powdered as not only is it a lot cheaper but it packs more protein per scoop than the flavoured ones.

I find a shake on a morning a really good way to avoid the usual carb type breakfasts without having to cook eggs, there are only so many eggs a girl can stomach!!!

Loads of great ideas on here for me to vary mine too so thanks everyone.

    1 cup frozen strawberries
    1 scoop vanilla protein powder
    1 tbsp peanut butter
    1 cup whole milk
1 medium banana peeled and chopped

    Blend until smooth.

Comes out to about 534 calories with 39g protein. It's also delicious. You can use skim or lowfat milk to shave off some of the calories.

2 variations - I use EAS Lean 15 Chocolate Whey Protein Powder - 100 cals for 2 scoops.

    Shake 1
    1 c. almond milk
    2 scoops EAS
    1/2 banana
    5 whole frozen strawberries
    5 ice cubes
    Blend
(stevia if you want it sweeter)

    Shake 2
    1 c. almond milk
    2 scoops EAS
    whole banana
    2 T. PB 2
    5 ice cubes
(also stevia if you prefer sweeter)
    Blend

#2 is my fave. Tastes like a peanut butter malt from my local ice cream shop without the guilt!!

I CAN NOT FIND THE PB2!!

    One of my favorites
    1 scoop 100% chocolate whey
    1 tbs cocoa powder
    2 tbs PB 2
    1 cup vanilla amount milk
    (Ice if you want)

    This morning I tried
    1 scoop 100% vanilla whey
2 tbs sugar free cheese cake pudding (just the mix not made)
    5 frozen strawberries
    1 cup vanilla almond milk

The chocolate one tastes like a brownie, and the other like strawberry cheesecake

Google "runs for cookies recipes" and check out the page. Her recipes are SOOO good...she also has a blog that is worth reading. She has quite a few protein shake/smoothie recipes that are YUMMY! She adds a little pudding mix to hers to make them taste better. I've tried just about every one on her list and love them all.

I love her protein shake recipes!
  • My usual breakfast:

    1 cup of 2% milk
    1 scoop of Chocolate Protein
    1-2 handfuls of ice
    and 1/2 tbsp of coffee

and for dinner I just don't add he coffee, hope it helps!
  • Try this
    1 scoop whey protein
1/2 cup (or less) unsweetened almond milk or water
    1/2 cup ice cubes
    1/3 cup pumpkin puree
    1-2 T Sweetener (i use Stevia)
    Cinnamon, all spice, ginger, nutmeg

Blend everything togheter and you've got a DELICIOUS pumpkin pie shake, you'll not even realize the moment you drank all of it! lol

    Spinach- a heft handful
Frozen banana- I cut them up into small pieces and put them individual baggies. I replace ice cubes with the frozen banana
Chocolate protein powder- actually prefer vanilla after trying the chocolate
Blue Diamond unsweetened vanilla almond milk or Blue Diamond unsweetened coconut and almond milk blend- 1-1.5 cups
Add ons: almond butter, pistachios, flax

    Carrot Cake smoothie:
Spinach- you can omit this, but I swear you can't taste it. It just turns the smoothie a greenish color
    Frozen banana
Carrot- 2 small ones or 1 large one peeled
    Vanilla protein powder
    Almond milk
    Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg
