Is "Clear American" Flavored Sparkling Water too good to be

Over the weekend I have fallen in love with the "Clear American" brand of flavored water found in Wal-Mart. This delicious flavored water claims to have:
0 sugar
0 caffeine
0 calories
0 sodium
Natural flavors
It tastes so amazing that I'm starting to wonder if it's too good to be true? I put myself on a water-only fast last month and was excited to discover this "water" that tastes so great! But does it have any hidden ingredients that aren't really healthy, or that I should be leery about? Because at this rate, I've already gone through about 6 1-liter bottles, just since Saturday! If it's healthy as it seems, I'm ready to buy a case! If it's not, I'll go back to plain 'ol H2O.
What do you know about this flavored water? Have you tried it?

If you drink a bottle or two a day you should be fine.2

Wish i could help you there, but i cant say i have heard of it.. but am intersted in it!0

It does have artificial sweetner but I drink a 33.9 ounce bottle daily. It tastes so good that it makes getting at least 4 of my 8 glasses of water in easily!1

Nothing secret about it. Just read the ingredients:
Carbonated Water, Citric Acid, Potassium Citrate, Natural Flavor, Aspartame, Potassium Benzoate (A Preservative), Acesulfame Potassium. Phenylketonurics: Contains Phenylalanine3 -
I've heard artificial sweeteners have "bad" effects on your body, but I love the Key Lime flavored sparkling water! I have a really sensitive stomach, and it's never given me any trouble (unlike the walmart brand flavor packets that you put in water to make it taste better).
Try one or two, see how your body feels after you drink it.7 -
Hmmm. You might want to read the ingredients. :bigsmile:1

I generally stay away from anything with aspartame, except for very occasionally - but honestly, I would never consume something daily (or more than once daily) that contains it. You're definitely better off drinking regular water...but, it's really a matter of how you feel about artificial sweeteners and their potential risks - some people don't care about it.10

Thank You! Seems like I need to do some research and find out what each of these ingredients are and whether or not they're healthy. Other than "carbonated water", I don't know what the other stuff is, Lol!4

Thanks! I'm going to check out some of the risks of aspartame and other artificial sweeteners.1 -

Yeah, I don't claim to have any particular proof of it...it's just what you're taught through the years of trying to make healthy decisions. Risks or not, some people just choose to stay away from artificial ingredients, but if they aren't as bad for you as we were led to believe, then enjoy! I swear, I can't keep up with what is and isn't bad for us anymore!! :noway: lol!4 -

LOL! I totally agree! It's so hard to keep up. That's why I was even questioning this water in the first place. Kinda funny that I even have to ask if WATER is okay to drink? Lol! I even read recently that "organic" isn't always what it seems....it's the kind of thing that will drive you crazy! I tried looking up some of the other ingredients on the water bottle and the explanations made my head swim. So I guess I'll just keeping on drinking it, but still make H2O as my first choice as much as possible. :drinker:1 -

What is your fav flavor? I love White Grape and Peach!0 -
I always stay away from artificial sweetners as well. I just can't stand the after taste of them. I was using aspartame and Splenda quite a bit over a period of a few months. I developed severe muscle aches and pains to the point I could not exercise and even walking was difficult. The pain was all over my body...weird! I had a bunch of testing done by the docs but they couldn't find anything. I decided to cut out the sweetners and within about a week all symptoms were gone. I firmly believe all of our bodies are different though and some of us have sensitivities. I'm guessing my body just doesn't like them. Everybody has to find what works for them. That water does sound great though!3

I love all the flavors. So good!0

I LOVE this stuff!!! Drink it all the time!0

It says "America" in it.......nuff said. Drink regular water, I don't get the big deal of avoiding that...1

Amen to that. So tired of the doomsday prophesies of asparatame and other sweeteners. Ughhhh.....7 -
Again- thank you!!1 -
It's jsut diet soda.6
-
One word: Nutradeath (Nutrasweet).
Nasty stuff.
Now Frys/Kroger has a similar product, no nutradeath (I think it's actually Splenda, but generic). or those Mio thingys.21 -

There's plenty of documentation on aspartame *not* being a good thing to ingest - particularly in large quantities (like lots of soda). If the product is stored in the heat, one of the products in breaks down into is pretty toxic, if I remember correctly.
Personally, it gives me migraines.15 -
I have some when I go to my dad's house because they LIVE off that stuff. Soooo many bottles in the house. I think it's a better choice than my dad's previous addiction to diet coke, but wouldn't buy it for myself. I just enjoy it when I visit home every month or two or so.0
-
The whole aspartame thing aside, I would try not to rely solely on the flavored water because the sweetener can dry your mouth out and thus cause you to drink more. If you're at home and chilling out, that's fine but for working out or going to the gym I'd tough it with plain water just for the better hydration.
I used to drink the stuff myself, so I know from personal experience. It doesn't happen to everyone but I know heavy consumption of it (I'm talking more than 2 bottles per day) often turned my stomach, I get the same reaction from anything with aspartame in it.0 -
Just to be clear...clearly american....1 or 2 bottles a day. Should still be fitting water in also.5

You guys are providing some awesome feedback!
I realized that my previous comments make it sound as if I'm really trying to replace my daily water intake with Clear American...I'm not. I definitely still plan to drink regular water! But this stuff tastes SO great that I thought I'd finally stumbled across something that could really be a healthier choice over the soda and juices I used to drink!
But I wanted to make sure that if I had a Clear American instead of Coke, that I wouldn't just be fooling myself. Like folks who choose to have a salad, but then it's loaded with cheese, dressing, croutons, etc. LOL.
After reading everything, it sounds like as long as I don't have any sensitivities to the artificial sweeteners, and don't mind drinking something with aspartame, that this would be perfectly fine to have in place of soda.6 -

If you want to stay away from aspartame, you could try Life Water. They use Stevia which is an all natural zero calorie sweetener. They are really tasty too. Just look for the "light" ones because they have regular drinks with sugar as well.1
