4 miles is proabaly about 9,100 steps so any regular walking would likley put you over.
I think you had said you had just bought the pedometer so I suspect you can return it. Which one was it that did not read correctly?0 -

Goal 7000 steps a day since I am at a sedentary job most of the time.
4/1 - 5949 I got most of that the night before when I was dancing. but it was after midnight. I had a restfull day.
4/2 - ??? I forgot my fitbit at home today. but I did go walking at lunch. Generally do about 3500 steps at lunch.
