Oh give her a break! When I am out with friends and drinking I lose track of how many drinks I have had! If I were to count how many glasses of wine I've had on a night out it probably would equal a bottle or more!

With that said, Friday night is my happy hour/business meeting night and I KNOW I am going to over indulge so I just plan for it: I try and burn a lot of calories wheni work out so that I din't feel guilty when I go over on my calories due to copious amounts of alcohol, I don't beat myself up over it and get back on track the next day.

Have fun and please don't drive!

Even as a university student, I have never taken 10 shots of vodka over the course of a night. That's...liver suicide, at best.

That being said, yes, I reserve a certain amount of calories for my alcohol. For example, tonight I'm planning on having 3 pints of Miller Lite. Not my fav beer, but I've committed to a healthier lifestyle and I intend to continue on that way. Maybe instead of 10 shots, stick to a bottle of wine. Do yourself a favor and set a limit. =P

    Happy Thirsty Thursday!

I don't know, I woudn't save all those calories, maybe just like 200 of them. And 10 shots, wow that is a lot.

I am a college student who parties every weekend...and I still think 10 is a lot. Most people I know (ESPECIALLY girls) would black out if they drank anywhere close to that...and I don't have to tell you that that's dangerous.

However much you decide to drink, I would say eat your normal amount of calories for the day, and then exercise to burn off how ever many calories you plan on drinking.

I have been known to drink my *kitten* off when I go out. No judgement requested....Best thing I have found is to eat lighter early and have a good workout. Later in the afternoon I'll eat a heavier, slower digesting meal like red meat and potatoes so I'm full and reduce the risk of chucking. PLENTY OF WATER ALL DAY. Slam your 10 shots, make it 12 for good measure, take a multi and an aspirin and pass out. I'm the guy who polishes the Jack by myself and hardly looks buzzed so if you're trying to keep up with a 6' blonde haired, blue eyed man at the bar....have fun but use caution. :drinker:

I binge drink at least once a week (Milwaukee culture, holla!) I pre-log several vodka drinks early in the day to make room in my net calories for it so I know how to juggle what I eat beforehand. Sometimes I go over my limit a hundred or two hundred calories because of the alcohol but I'm not here to prevent myself from enjoying life. Eat healthier foods during the day to compensate for the calories you're wasting on alcohol at night or if it's possible, burn off calories just so you can binge. I happen to enjoy stationary biking and chanting in my head how I earned the alcohol I'm about to drink (sort of how people pray over meals before they eat lol)

Eff those holier-than-thou people. I workout, eat within my calorie range, and look and feel great. AND I LOVE ALCOHOL!

Your gonna be drunk and sick. If not you'll want to stop at some diner on the way home and not care about what you eat. So eat and have some drinks and if you drink more then you should at least you'll have a base on you. Been there done that! Good luck, have fun and don't drive.

Hahaha at the posts saying 10 shots of vodka is a lot. Being Scottish that is like nothing, that's pre drinking :L

    Oh dear.

Judging by the bus she's on, OP looks like she's in Britain, and (Sadly? Gladly? Both?) binge drinking is like a uni/college requirement :P

I may be wrong about the bus. But I usually know my buses. LMAO.

Also, for me, I try to make sure I dance when I'm out, walk when I can...get some exercise in and eat a little lower calorie, and you sould be fine (: get vodka with diet coke or something, will last longer and diet coke has 0 cals

Don't consume less calories if you're going to drink that much. That is binge drinking, that girl on the first page was right. I would make it a cheat day and try to make up for it the rest of the week with a bit extra in the workouts.

But -please- keep in mind when you go, college kids who were on diets and were saving their calories for booze have died from it. People just like you. If you're going to have that much, please do so responsibly.

umm... 10 shots of vodka is more like 1000 calories, just so you know.

you definitely want to eat if you're goign to drink that much otherwise you will get very very sick these same night/next day and will be hugging your toilet

before i have a crazy night drinking, i make sure to have something ready to eat when i get home, that way i'm not making matter worse by getting several slices of greasy pizza and fries. you definitely want to make it before hand because cooking + drunkness = bad idea. my favorite post drinking meal is homemade chicken lo mein made with lots of chicken, veggies and rice noodles.

meatballs with cheese are also good. i make the meatballs with ground turkey and mushrooms

    60 cals each....so closer to 600...which is closer to 500 than 1000...

I shudder to think what folks would say if I opened my diary and they saw all the beverages listed. I drink. Not every day but I don't shy away from a good glass or two of wine and I certainly don't shy away from drinking while out having a good time. I do make an effort to plan for it calorie wise though. It is what it is. Like all things, it's up to you to know your body and take care of yourself. Don't sweat it and have a good time. I myself will enjoy some wine tonight!

interesting to read all the people stating that 10 shots is binge drinking, when the OP stated that that is just a number, not the actual amount. She said she'd probably only end up with 4 shots.
The important thing to remember is that one day will not make a difference, average weekly will. work off the calories, have some good for you food ready for when you get home, have a designated driver, and EAT before you go out, you'll be ok.
and the poster that said MGD 64 beer was a good option is correct, i've gone from drinking Guiness to 64 and i'm still losing weight. (MGD 64 just changed it's name and packaging to Miller 64). It's not any where near as good as a Guiness, but on this part of my journey, it works for me. :):drinker:

OP, don't listen to those that say you are a binge drinker, going out once in a while and having some nice refreshing beverages is not binge drinking.

Exactly! me too! Except it's going to be a beer or two for me tonight instead of wine.

Really depends on the vodka and whether it's a one ounce shot or a 1.5 ounce shot.

Just as an FYI, your profile mentions that you're 19 so you're pretty much admitting to breaking the law here (which I think can get your account banned?) unless you're in a country where the legal age is 18.

If she's in Canada (like I am) she is perfectly fine to drink as much as she wants as it is legal here to drink at 19 (and in many other countries too :O)

You can either eat less, or work off enough cals exercising that will justify it :) Then have a good time!

This is what I do. Either I leave out the extra meal to cover the exercise calories, or I just add 30 minutes of cardio and I'm good to have a couple drinks. Just be weary of the dreaded pizza, wings and fast food that inevitably get mixed in when drinking, those wreck your day more than the alcohol will.

Someone might have said this, but having a bottle of wine or shots isn't binge drinking. That has a different definition. While I have no real answer to the question, I will say this: 10 shots of vodka is NOT the same as drinking a bottle of wine.

Yeah yeah, i know, drinking is bad and all that, but im a university student so its a given.
I plan to either have 10 shots of vodka (500 something calories) or a bottle of zinfandel wine (400 odd calories), does that mean i have to eat 400-500 calories less?
500 calories is 5 shots btw

10 shots of vodka! My kind of girl :-)

Consider it a cheat day. Whenever I know I'm going to be drinking, which is usually on Friday, it's my cheat day for the week. Mainly because I know that when I'm drunk, Jack in the Box tacos are ALWAYS there calling my name, & in my drunken state, I can't resist, hehe.

If you're busting *kitten* & doing well the rest of the week, don't worry about it. Go out, have fun. Guaranteed you're having more fun than some of the fuddy-duddy's on here calling you an alcoholic/bad dieter for drinking. Someone buy them a double! :drinker:

If you're actively planning on drinking either 10 shots of vodka or a bottle of wine, you should really just give up on the idea of losing weight and save yourself the mental anguish.

yeah, so that was slightly mean. cheers for the unhelpful and uneccisary comment.

Pretty ignorant to assume off the bat that she is breaking the law (yeah I know you say at the end unless you're in a country where the legal age is 18, but you seem to assume straight off that she is American).

Most countries in the first world let you drink wellll before 21. In some places in Western Europe the age is 14-16. In the UK, Canada, Australia it's 18.

So yeah, someone who's 19 talking about drinking and you pretty much assume she's breaking the law. Bit judgmental hmmm?

10 shots of vodka is 350ml, which is a shoulder. That's an average night out in Ireland :P though on my calories I have a naggin, which is 200ml and 440 calories.

Try to exercise enough that you're not losing all 500 from the food that should sustain you through that much drinking. Earn 250 from exercise and accommodate 250 (that's usually about the amount I end up left over for snacks) and that'll be fairly ideal.

Leave people drink the way they want to, the word binge drinking is applied to 3 pints of beer according to various governments which is absolute shiiiiite, that was a quiet night for me before I started counting calories, now I have to stretch out one pint so that I'm not sacrificing calories and going hungry.

You can't binge drink and lose weight. Sorry but it's the truth. If you're planning on drinking that much, it doesn't matter how many calories you leave out of your diet for the day.. You can't 'cancel out' 10 shots or a full bottle of wine.

I have lost 47 ounds and drink nearly every weekend so you are wrong. I typically drink several botles of red wine. I exercise more and eat less. That is the truth. For the person asking the question even I was shocked when you said 10 shots. Are you crazy? Alcohol poisoning will kill you. And that comes from me.. wow. I never thought I would say anything like that considering I've been drinking all my life but 10 shots of hard liquor???? Come on. Drink the wine. It's actually good for you. Have a good time.

"uneccisary"... ??? How did you even get accepted to a college? I know, I know... that was mean and I should have refrained. Just trying to help you out in the future the next time you decide to post for some advice on an open forum.

Anyway, 10 shots of Vodka is about 1000 calories. Regardless of what type of alcohol you consume... an ounce of alcohol has about 100 calories.

1 glass of wine, approx. 100 calories
    1 beer, approx. 100 calories
1 shot of liquor, approx. 100 calories

That being said, pick your poison and enjoy your night... there isn't a realistic way to offset the effects of alcohol on your body. Not eating is not a substitute as the calories from macro nutrients (those found in food) are burned and expended in a much different fashion than calories derived from alcohol. Your best bet is remain accountable for your eating that day and write off your enjoyment that night as a much needed break from the rigors of staying committed to your program.

Seriously lots of fuddy duddies on here. I say LIVE IT UP!! You're in college, these are the times to do crazy (but still safe) things. You have the rest of your life to count calories and obsess over your weight. And only a few years where you aren't tied down by kids and/or a mortgage. LIFE YOUR LIFE! CREATE STORIES that you will one day be able to share with your children. Age appropriate of course.

Just my 2 cents. I WISH I had had more fun in college instead of working 60 hours a week and going to school full time. Now that I am older (36) I can see what missed out on.
