okay, so my headline about says it all, but let me give you some ideas. i am 5'11 300lbs, i ate almost 1500 calories today, and burned 1550ish, my regular intake is set at like 2400 calories, and i cant eat that much, it is impossible. i felt sick and bloated stuffing the 1500 down. no way i could add the extra calories for my work out in. and the working out i love, so i cant cut it down either. lost and not sure what i can do to correct this, down 20lbs in a month, feel great and starvation mode, not with what i am eating. so any ideas? thanx

You didn't gain the weight by eating 1500 calories a day, so clearly it's possible. Try full fat dairy, nuts and nut butters, avocado, olive and coconut oil, chia seeds... the possibilities are endless. Just go for calorie-dense foods.

no i am saying, after all the calories i ate today, and my working out it says my net is negative, so instead of being at the 4000 it says i should have, i am at -50 does that make more sense? ate 1500 - 1550 working out = -50

If it's just your first month and since you've got a decent amount to lose, I wouldn't say your metabolism is going to be shot, but hopefully it will even out soon. If you want to get something out of your workouts and improve in whatever you're doing, you do need to eat enough.

EDIT: Holy ****! I didn't realize that it was that you were -50 net calories. Legit question: have you had some sort of weight loss surgery? Not sure how else you can net -50 and feel alright.

If you truly can't eat the calories, stop the workouts. If you can't stop the workouts, learn to eat the calories. You did it before and you can probably do it now.

You seem to realize it's a problem, and that's a great first step. For motivation, consider that you're looking at about 80% muscle loss (in terms of total weight loss) if you keep it up.

With what I've been told at a higher weight you can do that and not suffer major immediate consequences the way someone who is 150lbs. would. There will come a time when it needs to change but now is obviously not it. Just practice listening to your body. If you have the energy to workout then you can keep this up. If you get any confusion, brain fog, extreme muscle fatigue or completely quit losing weight it may be time to assess things. If you're not hungry, don't eat but please consider drinking some calories. High caloric deficits can also make the body stop sending hunger signals as it adjusts for less intake. It learns it's not going to get enough and slows the metabolism in response. Protein shakes would be wonderful but even a glass of milk would suffice. You're not suffering consequences now but if you keep netting that low for too long they will come.

Burning 1500 and eating only 1500 is as bad as not eating anything at all. If you intend to burn that much, make sure you're fueling your body or you will do a lot more harm than good. Be safe!

One day isn't going to kill ya, but you need to learn to adjust how you eat. If you can't eat more quantity wise, make sure the foods you are eating are calorie dense. Nuts, but butters, avocados, olive oil, cheese. Eating a protein bar or drinking a protein shake after a work out will help as well.

I doubt the logging is off. Look at him, he obviously has a large natural muscle structure and he looks like one of those guys that when they have a 105 fever they still have to get out there and get it done. Mind over matter for someone like him. If we can eat ourselves to 300 pounds we can go back completely the other direction with a eff it, I'm gonna fix this ish right now. Source: me.

You do realize that three liters of soda a day could be as much as 1500 calories right? That's (scientifically) the equivalent of gaining about two pounds every day. Soda has calories, calories in excess make us fat.

    hehe! (to the duck comment)

I haven't looked at your diary (not sure if I can see it anyways) but I find that eating 5-6 small meals a day makes it easier to eat the correct amount of calories, rather than trying to "stuff it in" in just 3 meals a day. Try to keep all your meals to around the same cal intake....so lets say 5 meals at 400cals each...that would be 2000cal diet....or 6 meals at 400cals. Protein shakes help a LOT i find.

Also don't be afraid to have a small meal before bed (protein and vegies for example)...it keeps your metabolism from shutting down for too long overnight.

***these tips are not directly from myself but from a very valuable article I recently read in the paper by a kinesiologist***

    Good luck!

    This!

An apple and 2 tablespoons of peanut butter = nearly 300 calories (a normal sized apple is around 80 and 2tbs of pb is around 190 calories). Not a lot to eat and an easy way to add calories. A serving of almonds = 190 calories (or so) and a container of Greek yogurt is around 120 = 310 calories.

There are easy and healthy ways to add calories. I agree about full fat milk, full fat cottage cheese, etc.

You may be able to handle the deficit now - but it isn't going to take long for your body to realize what's going on and weight loss will STOP.

Your Basal Metabolic Rate is over 1500 if you weight 300 lbs - that's the energy it would take to keep your body alive if you were in a coma, not moving at all. If you worked out, you burned more than that.

It depends on what he's eating. I was stuffed on 1200 calories because I'm eating so many damned veggies and the thought of eating anything else made me sick. I completely crapped out after 2 weeks because I was working out too much but it took 2 friggin weeks. He could be in the same boat dude.

Try full fat chocolate milk to finish your workout. Not very filling and fairly high in calories, tastes great and I read somewhere (but not sure where so take it with a grain of salt) that it is one of the best post-workout recovery drinks.
