Is the trainer Right?

So the trainer at the gym told me I would never weigh 130 lbs. She asked when was the last time I weighed that and I took a guess and said 6 years ago. That is when she replied ok you will probably not get to that weight then. I was kind of taken back I am not aiming for 110-115 I think 130 is reasonable and do able. Then I see everyone on here who weighed more then me that got down below 130 etc...I like her training but that just rubbed me the wrong way. It has kind of motivated me to prove her wrong but yet also has raised doubt. What do you all think???
BTW I am 5'1!

Find a new trainer. She's making excuses.0
-
You can definitely get to 1300
-
At 5'1" you should have no problem at all getting to 130!0
-
That person shouldn't be a trainer. You don't say that to someone.0

I doubt that.
Possible? only you know. go for it.0 -
I'm five foot and 120lbs!! Of course you can do it!!! Trainer needs to learn a bit!0
-
get a new trainer !!0
-
she better be wrong cause I am 5 ft and plan on getting there and below myself0
-
You should have no problem getting to 130 at 5'1"...or even below that.
That is not a very nice trainer.0 -
I think you can do it. It's a reasonable, healthy weight for your height so with enough motivation it's definitely achievable PROVE HER WRONG!0
-
thats wild for 5'1 the heaviest healthy range is betweeen 132-140. That means your goal is totally attainable. Get a new trainer they should be motivating and knowlegeble.0

I'd love to know her reasoning behind that idea. Maybe you could ask her right before you fire her!0
-
Rubbish rubbish rubbish trainer! 130 is def. feasible at your height, in fact it'll be a great weight to have. Maybe your trainer was banking on the reverse motivational aspect of what she said, but more probably she's just not a good trainer!0

A trainer should motivate and encourage your goals, especially a reasonable goal of 130 lbs. Personally I would not feel comfortable working with someone who does not have faith me in!0
-
Maybe she's trying to motivate you by telling you that you can't? (She think's you are one of those obstinate types who doesn't want to be told she can't do anything)?0
-
I think you can make it!:glasses:0

There are so many factors to consider, your bone structure and density being one of them. I was THRILLED when the personal trainer I was seeing a while back told me what my goal weight should be since it was higher than I thought and that meant less weight to lose. When I asked why it was that high for me, she said that it was based on my frame, bones, etc. Works for me!0

 do it then laugh in her face..0

I would have to agree, and always keep your goals till you feel like it's time to make new ones. :flowerforyou:0 -
i had a client lose 60lbs in 70 days.. anything can be done if you want it bad enough0

At 5'1" your ideal weight would be about 122 -- so you should be able to get to 130 and beyond. Prove the trainer wrong!0
-
Wow, it doesn't seem right to me.
If you've weighed that much at some point in your adult life, I see no reason why you couldn't get there again with enough effort.
Prove her wrong!0 -
Your trainer is out to lunch! You have set a very reasonable goal...I say fire the trainer! :explode:0
-
Was she basing that off of a lean body weight calculation or something?0
-
That goal is more than achievable for your height!
Maybe she was just trying not to get your hopes up too much in case you didn't make it. *shrugs* IMO though, that's not appropriate, she should be encouraging you, not making out like you can't do it!! I'd get a new trainer personally, one that supports you fully, and will push you to achieving YOUR goals, not doubting you!0 -
im 5'5 and i could reach that. i agree find a new trainer.0
-
Does she expect you to gain so much muscle you'll always be above 130? Sounds like an unreasonable thing to say anyway.0
-
The trainer's job is to guide and motivate you to exercise, teaching you about form, challenging you to push to knew strength goals, and that sort of thing. She's not a nutritionist. She's not a doctor. If you get to your goal weight, it won't really have much to do with her.
If she rubs you the wrong way, then get a new trainer.0 -
There are so many factors that determine "ideal" weight. One cookie cutter formula doesn't apply to everyone. For example, I have VERY large breasts. My weight at 5'7" is naturally going to be more than a flat chested girl at the same height. That's just common sense in my opinion.0

I agree with everyone here. My trainer never says I can't do anything. She doesn't commit to a specific weight or goal either. She tends to focus me on mini-goals. We celebrate each 10 pounds lost, then focus on the next 10. When I'm happy with my wieght and size then she'll help me focus on maintenance.
I would tell her that you feel her attitude is unprofessional. You pay her to support and encourage you not to get in the way! :explode:0
