How CHEAP are you?
My friends and family always rag on me for being "cheap", "frugal" and a "bargain hunter" all the time. So how cheap am I? If I buy 2 ply toilet paper.............................I separate it to use it.
Beat that.

Oh my, I have never thought of doing that. LOL I'm not cheap, I spend too much money. I need to be cheaper!0
-
I'm cheap, but you got me beat!!0
-
You prob end up using the same amount though right. I mean, it's simple math. 2 sheets of 2 ply equal 4 sheets of 1 ply. How much do you use?
(this comes from the guy who made 6 figures last year and still buys his shoes at Goodwill)0 -
I just THOUGHT I was cheap, until you posted that.... I just don't buy myself new clothes and/or shoes (until they start talking to me) and often cut my own hair, lol.0
-
I'm a thrift store shopper, I feel thats pretty cheap0
-
That's not cheap, that's a whole other level of stinginess. It's like stepping over a dollar to pick up a penny.0
-
Yah you got me beat too! On toothpaste, laundry soup, ketchup, etc, make sure I get every last bit of it. Frugal really. I never pay full price for anything except food, I absolutely refuse!0
-
okay I only THOUGHT I was cheap til I read your post. Can't beat that though All of my family's clothes comes from thrift stores or garage sales...or buying from friends. Most things are bought on sale, if its not on sale its not bought --- except for fruit.0
-
Why not just stop buying the toilet paper, im pretty sure your hand does most of the job with 1 ply anyways..0

Isn't it funny how people who aren't millionaires who have money are some of the most "cheapest" people out there? Don't get me wrong, I'll buy quality when I need to, but I'll be damned if I EVER pay more than just a little above cost.

I do shop at Goodwill and turn my nose at anything over $4.
but my mother washes out all of the ziplock baggies to reuse them....does that count? I think she's had some since 1975......0 -
I haven't bought clothing for myself in 6 years.
I have never paid more than $700 for a car
My laptop is the only item I own that didn't come second-hand, and I got it on sale.
edit to add that
my drinking glasses are left-over sauce jars and my tupperware is left over yogurt containers.0 -
I garden so I can freeze and can food to last until the next growing season. Also raise my own chickens for eggs and chicken to fill the deep freeze. That's about all I have. LOL0

wow! I shop at thrift stores, grab abandoned stuff off the side of the road, and make my own EVERYTHING, but I refuse to use anything but 2 ply TP and it has to be nice. My butt is worth the splirge0

Consignment shops and store brands ALWAYS, I buy all my shoes from thrift stores, and now that I am having to buy cloths to fit (thank God for MFP), I stop at a thrift store once a week, and even think about hiding the 'good' stuff till the color of the tag goes on half price. I look for Christmas and birthday presents all year round, and buy 2 items from second hand stores for every 1 full price item I select for gifts. I am way more cheap on myself than on my loved ones. I spend more money on my doggie than myself, have to break that habit.0
-
I am too lazy to be cheap. I spend too much money! 1 ply TP :ohwell:0
-
I think thrift stores can be expensive. I will only shop on half price day. I love the Goodwill Outlets where everything is priced per pound. I make my own laundry soap, and fabric softener. I shop at the Dollar Tree for some of our groceries. I use vinegar to clean almost everything in my house.0

That't not really cheap. That is fun.0 -

I laugh because your Mom sounds like she may be related to me. My Dad's family is like this and they grew up wealthy in comparision to my Mom's family (she has 12 siblings). My aunt reuses ziplock bags, solo cups, etc. I think it is becaused they were raised in a time that either they or their parents were effected by the great depression.0 -
I typically only thrift store shop on half off days. My husband laughs at me. LOL0
-
Haha I don't know if I can beat separating tp, but I'm pretty bad when it comes to frugality. The wife laughs at me when I empty leftover soy sauce sachets from the Chinese takeout into the soy sauce bottle.0

Not cheap at all! I have expensive taste, unfortunately. The only thing I'm cheap about (but I consider it being "green") is re-using containers. I re-use everything! If something comes in a resealable bag, or I use a ziplock, I wash and reuse it. Same goes for plastic containers, etc. I also make all of my own household cleaners...my laundry soap costs me about $6.00 to make and lasts me almost a year!0

Yep, I was raised by my grandmother and great grandmother, in a community of aged individuals. I learned everything I know about home-making from them. Everyone in town (pop 750) had a garden. Apple trees were the most common tree in yards, and maples were ALWAYS tapped.
Part of my daily chores was raccoon-proofing chicken coops and milking goats. Milk and eggs are expensive! Goats and chickens eat weeds and bugs, which also saves money in pesticides and lawn-mowing.
Imagine my surprise the first time someone told me it was "weird" so save food containers for left-overs and wash out ziplock bags!
I also sew, forage wild food, and can do minor home repair. I buy grain and spices in bulk from Mennonites, and bake all my own bread products.
However, I learned to dumpster-dive in college. The old folks may be thrifty, but they had pride. I'm just cheap.0 -
I'm a little disappointed by this thread being about frugality. I totally took the title to the wrong place... :bigsmile:0

This is my dream, I am always talking about moving to the country and growing my own produce, fruit trees and a few chickens-maybe a cow or some pigs (organic). It was the way I was brought up and there is nothing tastier than going outside and picking you own dinner out of the garden.0 -
LOL come on JOE say it ain't so!!!! How much does toilet paper cost where you live??????? :bigsmile:0
