Cottage Cheese.... This may seem silly....

I hope you have a good experience, but if not, try another kind. They are not all the same.
I like cottage cheese, but only one kind. That is one particular brand (Dean's) and only the full-fat small curd type that they make. I'm very picky.0 -
I like cottage cheese....SOMETIMES...I go through certain moods where it will taste really good and then I just don't care for it and a few months go by and I love it again....and I am not a fruit on top...plain plain plain!0

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago and It was a texture thing. First time I tried it, I still wasn't sure how I felt. Now I love the stuff. I usually eat it with something salty like a cracker or I used to put some goldfish crackers in it. I have used it as a dip, I just add some salsa and put it on a chip. There are so many ways to eat it. Just keep trying different ways til you like it.0

Fresh pineapple is best, or fresh strawberries. Otherwise, some low sugar blueberry pie filling, or savory with tomatoes, balsamic vinegar and cucumbers, with a little dill.
OMG yum, I think I found lunch.
The taste is somewhat like cream cheese, the texture, like rice pudding almost. I love the stuff now, I used to despise it.0 -
Keep in mind that, IMO, flavor can vary a whole lot between brands with some being much better than others.
Very true! I used to live in NY and only ever bought Crowley (still the best cottage cheese I've ever had, so if it's available, get it!) but now I settle for Breakstone's.0 -
a coworker put black pepper on hers...I've never seen that before...but I tried it and Yum!
I also really like it with pineapple.
One of my favorite breakfast treats is:
combine 1/2 cup cottage cheese with 1 tsp. wheat germ. Put that on top of a low fat waffle, and top it off with 1/4 cup fruit cocktail (in juice not the one with heavy syrup) and a tsp of maple syrup.0 -
Don't get put off by it if you don't like it at first. Different brands make a huge difference, I honestly like Save-a-lot brand better than any other kind. I can't have it too runny or too dry...etc.
I eat mine plain but you can try to mix it with anything, I know a few people who use it on their salads instead of dressing.
Good luck
I completely agree with this - different brands do taste different! Just try a couple different brands out - it's NUMMY if you find the right brand and right chunk size0 -
A little black pepper at least... But I also add tomato to mine!
Just beware, it can be VERY high in sodium.
EXACTLY how i eat mine I sometimes add a little bit of onion0 -
I love it with almost any fresh fruit (softer ones), like strawberries, peaches, pineapple, mango, even bananas. Some canned fruits are good too, like pears, or even fruit cocktail. The saltiness of the cottage cheese is balanced out by the sweetness of the fruit. YUM!!0

growing up we always ate it with pineapple, i serve it to my son with apple sauce. We only buy "Daisy" brand, all the other brands add stuff.0
-
COttage Cheese and any sweet fruit like cantelope or peaches....instant yum!0
-
LOVE cottage cheese! I eat it straight...just like ice cream. I'll also add it to a salad. Not a fan of mixing it with fruit...0
-
I like to eat mine with pepper as well, or with a tsp or so of salsa mixed in it, It is also great with greek yogurt and fresh berries.0
-
I love it with just about anything I have added it to! My favorite way to eat it though is with pineapple. Something about those two flavors just click! Also I like to steam a large Swiss Chard leaf then use it like a tortilla and wrap it around a Field Roast chipotle chorizo grain sausage and a good helping of cottage cheese, Delicious!0

Cottage Cheese is a great protein, but it is high in sodium. If CC and salty crackers are part of your routine diet, add sodium as one of your tracking columns.0 -
I like it plain or with black pepper and tomatoes. It's also good with turkey sandwiches, like in place of mayo. I slather it on bite by bite. Yummy.0
-
I add some season all season salt to it yum!!0
-
I like to put some cinnamon on it : )0
-
i am in love with the Hood 2% pineapple and cherry one...i wish i liked black pepper cause that sounds interesting...but the plain is just not doable for me...good luck!!0
-
i LOVE cottage cheese, i usually just eat it plain or i eat it with spinach and wheat thin crackers0
-
I eat it plain but you will love it or hate it. No one in my family or extended family will eat it. I ate it as a young child so I like it.0
-
I have mine with a side of grapes, watermelon or a fruit cup.0
-
Eat it with some pineapple mixed in. YUMMY!
It's also good just on its own. :-)
You can also mix it into plain pasta instead of sauce.0 -

I do track sodium.. . and no this is not routine.0 -
I eat mine with granola or fresh fruit.0
-
I like it plain or with smuckers sugar free strawberry preserves...0
-
Eat it plain. I love it plain but also love it with peaches on top. Yum!
But yes, it is an acquired taste and texture. Some just don't like it. That's ok!
Love it with peaches best, but also like crushed pineapple. Sometimes I'll also cut a tomato into wedges (don't cut all the way through the peel on the bottom...you want it to look like it's "blooming" like a flower), then stuff the middle with cottage cheese and top it with a little black pepper. YUM!0 -
Many people eat it with any kind of fresh fruit - thats why they sell it like that. I like to mix it with tuna fish and pepper.0

I am a new kid to cottage cheese. I have literally never taken a bite of it before in my life. To be honest, I am kind of scared of it, as i don't do really well with textures... LOL
However, I bought some at the grocery this weekend. Any suggestions on how to eat it?
I LOVE cutting up half a banana and mixing it with cottage cheese, a little vanilla extract, and some stevia (or your favorite sugar substitute). It's kinda like banana cream pie, except high in protein and relatively healthy :-).0
