Belly Button Rings--Trashy or Cute?

Kinda trashy :-(. Still love them though. :-)0

Painful!0

I didn't realize belly rings were still such a big deal .... soooo 90's when belly shirts were the thing.
Just to age myself, I had mine pierced in the Mall in 1993!0 -
Give your body time to heal (several months) before you get into any water at all..saltwater, lakewater or a swimming pool. If you have it done go to a clean and sterile place and talk to them about how to care for it... If you are going to the beach really soon wait until after....you don't want to risk an infection. When you first have it pierced it is like an open wound until it heals....about 6 months....i have 4 piercings below the neck...would not even risk infection by not giving them time to heal properly.

Each to their own, but in the majority of cases if I had to pick trashy or cute, I'd go with trashy.0

Had mine done at 17 - I'm now 28. I still love it and plan to keep it for a while. I've gone through two pregnancies with it and had no problems. It did take some time to heal at first - by far the worst piercing I've had in terms of how long it took to heal. And I agree that while salt water may be a great idea, ocean water - not so much. You need to keep that baby clean clean clean.0

Does the opinion of others matter that much If you like it, get it done and to hell with the haters! Mind you, you're braver than me; I'd rather just get more tattoos than dabble in the world of piercings.
haha thats interesting I am of the exact opposite mind on that, Tattoos are so much more permanent that I consider piercings to be more of something to dabble in, you don't like it you take it out. Can't do that with tattoos. But I am with you on the "if you like it get it" it's your body do what you like!0 -
To me...neither. I think they are kind of pointless.0

i say each to their own! We are all individuals and do what feels right for us. My daughter got her's done in high school but she no longer wears it since she's a Mommy now and will be 33 tomorrow.0

I don't like them!0

I have 2 one on top and one on the bottom, i think it looks good if u have a flat stomach.0

They're definitely cute! I've had mine done since I was 14 ( I was A LOT thinner!) and I REFUSE to take it out because it is part of my motivation! I want to show it off again!!!!0

Meh - I've had mine for 15ish years...I'm 45 now and I *still* like it! :drinker:0

I love them and now that I am a smaller size want one, but SO thinks they are trashy so will not be getting one0

Cute. I had it before I had all my kids and gained all this weight. It is closed now but I plan to get it pierced again after I get to my goal weight.0

I have mine done but as I'm not in belly-showing shape, my bf is the only one who sees it.
It's more memorable than anything. My mom took me, my cousin by marriage, and a friend to a shop in Florida to get them done. She was drunk and lied to a notary about her relation to us. Told the notary she was the legal gaurdian of 3 very different looking girls the same age... We were 14 and 15 years old. :laugh:0 -
I'm way older than most posters here. With the belly I have now..no way would I do it.
But when I am at goal weight...if I can tighten and tone enough......I am going to have my navel pierced!
To each his own!0 -
i think cute, i got mine done at the beach 11 yrs ago, and im diabetic and have a hard time healing, but mine did great, the salt water seamed to help.0

^Agreed, have you ever gotten a tattoo removed? it is NOT fun! imagine bacon grease popping out of the pan and onto your bare skin...over and over and over and over...etc...hurt A LOT worse than getting a tattoo....piercings, you can just take out...although they will leave a scar...0 -
I got mine done on my 18th birthday, but took it out when I got pregnant. I think once I get to my goal weight/size, I might get it re-done. I'm just worried about it hurting like a *kitten* since I've got scar tissue there now, and I'm kinda worried about people thinking "ok girl, you've got stretch marks and a 5 year old, time to give up the dream" but whatever I think if you've got a cute tummy, why not put some jewelry on it!
The scar tissue shouldn't make it hurt. My only concern is will it still hold perfectly in place do to the tissue. I've been wanting to get mine redone but that all depends on how fast I can tone my stomach and if I think I can handle it again. Maybe I just need to get it pierced at a different place. I really do miss my ring.
From what I've been told it only hurts if you pierce through the scar tissue. If you have them pierce a bit deeper behind the tissue it shouldn't hurt as bad.0 -
I've had mine since I was 16 (ten years ago) and its never caused any problems. I love it0

I think the right one is cute, I wanted one for a "treat" when I reached my goal weight, but, I have heard too many rumors of people getting them snagged. There are those who have no problems, like my sister, but, I have also had a friend who caught hers on a table and ripped it sideways and we ride horses and many have caught the ring on the horn, even after putting a band aid over it. I am still worried about getting one but not a complete no.0

I'm 22 now and have had my belly button ring for about 5 years. Besides one hole in each ear, it's my only piercing. I'm shocked that everyone had so many issues with healing! My mom is a nurse and actually pierced mine at home and I didn't have any problems. Anyway, it makes me feel secretly sexy and my husband loves it. Since him and I are really the only ones who see it (besides the occasional times I wear my bikini), our opinions are the ones that matter to me I don't carry extra weight in my stomach area--if I did I maybe would have reconsidered the piercing--if you like your stomach--Go for it! If you'd like, I could post a picture later today when I get off of work. Good luck!0

Depends on the Belly0

It depends on the ring. The skin where mine is pierced is thin. I need a super tiny (short) barbell because the one I have now is almost 2 cm longer than my piercing and it DOES get caught at times. I found a shorter one that i am going to try out and possible even an actual slave-navel hoop.
Also, on occasion, my pants come up to my belly button when I sit, but no-one's pant should typically be over their belly button to get caught...0
