    Shall I get caught up too? Sheila, what happened?

    I have a 2000 Dodge Caravan, 140,00+ miles on it. It overheated this weekend and shut down completely. We had it towed to the mechanic my dad recommended and I didn't hear from him all day yesterday or today UNTIL....

    I went to lunch. There is good news, and there is bad news. The good news is the timing belt broke and only $300; however, if the valves are bent and the heads have to be replaced $1200. Chances of this are great because we were going down the road when the belt broke. I did call for a second opinion thinking this might sound a bit high...NOPE! AND he added that the water pump (and some other things) are connected with the timing belt which may also need to be replaced. ARGGGHHH

    Then to beat all my regular mechanic (who I did not take the van to) of 10 yrs is out of the shop because of a motorcycle accident. A 15 yr old Mexican girl with no license or insurance pulled out in front of him. Can you believe that?

    Now I have to decide, do I want to fix my van or just get another one. What would you do?
