I have curly/wavy hair. I'm trying to grow it out. I want to grow it out to my waist. My hair hasn't been that long since I was about 12.

I use shampoo bars from Chagrin Valley Soap and Salve. You can google to see their products, but I warn you, they are addictive! :) They have so many shampoo bars, you will definitely want to try more than one. I recommend buying sample bars until you find the best one(s) for your hair/scalp type.

Sometimes, I use an apple cider vinegar+cool water+peppermint oil as a conditioner. The vinegar gets a little strong, so, use oils with it!

Sometimes I use Suave Rosemary and Mint conditioner, only because it was what I had leftover from before I went to shampoo bars. When I run out of it, I will try something more natural.

I also use Lush's H'Suan Wen Hua. It it a bit stinky, but makes my hair feel amazing.

I do not use any other products in my hair. I usually let air dry, and scrunch every few minutes to get the curls shaped. If I blow dry, I scrunch as I go, and never fully dry.

I haven't cut/trimmed my hair in a year and several (four?) months. I have no split ends. I have stopped dying my hair, which I last did with my last cut. I have some greys; so, I may try a coffee stain to cover those.

Sounds lovely. I love new tips and products. Thanx for sharing :-)

Not a problem. You can go to youtube and search "chagrin shampoo bars" for some tips on how to use shampoo bars from some natural women. Your hair may take some time to get used to it, but I don't think I would ever go back to traditional 'poos. My scalp and hair are much healthier.

Has anyone tried the WEN products? I don't have an abundance of extra $ so I'm wondering of it's worth the cost. My hair is now almost to my shoulder blades, and my goal is waist length.

My hair was to my waist 3 different times before I started losing weight. I was alternating between cutting it and donating to Locks of Love and Pantene's Beautiful Lengths programs, but sadly, my hair started to fall out by the handfuls and clumps when I lost about 40-50 lbs. It's not growing back and I nearly burst into tears when I put it in a ponytail now. My ponytail was so thick on my hair donations that they had to cut through it in 3 sections and my 13" ponytail donations each weighed over 1/2 lb. when mailed (hair weight minus packing and envelope weight too), now, it's barely the size of a quarter in circumference. I'm taking a ton of biotin and went through many weeks of metabolic testing with no answer. I miss my long beautiful hair. It was stick straight at the roots until about my shoulder blades, then it fell in these golden twisting curls far enough down my back that I could tuck it into the back pocket of my jeans. All of you that still have your hair are so lucky!!!!

Don't cry too much yet. My hair was down past my tailbone and it was this gorgeous cascade of gold. Then my now ex-husband left, I cried all the time, stopped eating much, lost 50 lbs, became allergic to every soap possible and almost everything else and my hair started falling out. It was a scraggly mess and I cried over it all the time.

I got it chopped to my shoulders and now it's down past my shoulders as the gal messed up the cut so bad I wanted to scream. Now, it's growing out all thick and becoming pretty again. I had a HUGE ponytail and then went to barely half that. Now it's getting healthier all the time. It'll often come back.

I started growing mine out from a pixie cut with blonde highlights (stupid idea!) and have pledged not to cut it while I'm on this healthy journey. It's just past my ears now and is the perfect length to show off my natural curls. The curls straighten out as my hair gets longer. My goal is waist-length natural hair which I'll then let dread. I used to have dreadlocks but cut them off to look more professional for the job I had at the time. That was over 2 1/2 years ago and I still regret it!

Mine's in a grow out from a pixie too! Long story short, I chopped it last spring in support of a cancer patient (family) who was devastated to lose her hair.....it did help her feel better, but I felt like a boy for forever and a day. It's finally a couple inches below my shoulder..............but I am aiming for at least waistline. Although....in high school it was mid-thigh. ;) Mine grows fairly fast....can't wait for it to get longer than it is....it's driving me nutso!

Been growing my hair for over 2 years so far and it's about level with my bra strap at the back, but only shoulder lenght round my face. It wont get much longer than it is now, but I want the layers out. It started out in a very short pixi cut hence still having layers. I've had it trimmed once a year to get rid of the split ends. I use heat on it about once a year, the rest of the time I leave it to dry naturally
I've got typical British hair, the texture is fine, but I've got quite a lot of it, and it's wavey enough to frizz at the slightest excuse. I've started to use organic Argon oil on it & it's made a huge difference.

Im a curly girl! Sometimes I'll wear my hair straight, but I achieve that by flat ironing maybe once a month. No more relaxers for me! It's gotten much longer than it ever did when I relaxed it. Somewhere around mid-back now when straight.

Oh, and coconut oil has done wonders for it!

I'm 10 years natural with locs for 9 years! I am 17lbs away from my first goal of 50 lbs and plan on cutting my dreads at that time, still going to be a natural girl. I have already started purchasing my products and doing my research :) I'm def going to be a co-wash girl!

Noooooooooo don't do it  A little bit of me dies everytime I see someone cut off their beautiful locs.

I'm 5 years natural. I've ony been growing my locs for 18 months though so after 9 years my feelings may change. Right now I LOVE them, going natural was the best thing I ever did!

My hair is 3 1/2 feet long. I can sit on it. I usually wear it up in a bun though, especially when it is hot. My husband loves my long hair!

Mine is about 1/2 way down my back. I'm growing it out and once I reach 100 pounds lost (15 to go) I'm going to my hair dresser (yummy) and letting him have his way with my hair!

I really love it that there are so many long-hairs and gettin-there-long-hairs on here! :-)

One of my big motivations to lose weight it I want to be thin by the time I reach tailbone. I remind myself of that when I'm craving junk food. So far, it works!

So, does anyone have any hair toys? I have several feather fascinators, a wood hairstick from Timberstone Turnings, an amethyst and mother of pearl hair fork, and some silk flower combs that I've made. What does everyone else play with?

I have been natural for a year now (BCed on July 8th of last year). My hair is still short :grumble: but my first goal is to get it to shoulder length. My ultimate goal is to get to mid back or so. I LOVE the pink Shea Moisture products and Coconut oil. I still have a ginormous box of hair products that I’m trying to use up from my "research" and "experiments" when I first went natural but after that I’m pretty much sticking to Shea Moisture and Coconut oil.

Count me in! Over the last year or so my hair has gotten a lot longer...and I love it! :) It's about waist length and is curly/wavy. My mom always said that I'd cut my hair when I got older...but I'm nearly 38 and it's here to stay. :)
