Satisfy Ice Cream Cravings!-- My new favorite food discovery

I saw this recipe on Pinterest (I think), but now I can't find it again. I wish I could give credit to the website that I found it on, so just know that this is not an original recipe from me.

Also, you will not like this recipe if you do not like bananas.

Cut up about 3 almost overly ripe bananas into 1/4"-1/2" rounds.
Freeze.
Put the banana into a blender. At first it will become "gravelly" (exact words of the website), but then it will become creamy like ice cream. It takes awhile, and you may have to scrape the sides of the blender a couple of times.
When it is sufficiently creamy, voila! Banana ice cream.

If you like chocolate and peanut butter, you can add a tablespoon of each or only one. Have fun with it.

Seriously, I couldn't believe how much it was like eating ice cream. I even began feeling guilty before I remembered... wait this is just made of bananas.

**EDIT: I found a website that has the recipe on it. This is not the original website I saw, though. Also, I just froze my bananas in a freezer bag overnight.

I do this a lot! I add a little milk usually. It's a great substitute for ice cream!

there's a machine at brookstone that does this too! i'm not sure what it's called, but you stick bananas and frozen fruit/chocolate chips/whatever else in, and you get this ice cream-y substance!
  • I think I found this on Pinterest too but can't remember where. I tried it and you're right, you have to like banana's cuz it's basically banana flavored ice cream. My husband didn't like it. I did and was amazed at the ice cream like texture.

Truly , this really is delicious...great for summertime! My "bowl of ice cream" lately has been trader joes european style yogurt sweetened with stevia and a touch of vanilla, then topped with their chocolate moo syrup:)

It is up to you how much you want to eat of it. Personally I think that it's too much for one serving, but I could easily eat half of it. Or, you could make it with one banana, a little less cocoa powder and peanut butter.

They have a machine called "Yonanas" and its awesome!!! I use it at least 3-4 times a week. I have tried it with strawberries, chocolate, they have recipes with wine too! LOL!! My next one is a mango coconut that I am going to try tongiht. The machine is awesome and it blends it up perfectly. It was TOTALLY worth the $50 b/c I use it all the time insteadof buying ice cream. You can get it at Target, Kohl's Bed Bath & Beyond, or online.

My mom used to freeze bananas in the summer and just eat them cause they tasted like an ice cream bar, I think she heard it on Howard Stern or something lol! Thanks for the reminder of that and the great new way to do this!!
