The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty is 10x worse than 50 Shades of Grey.

Now THAT is some f*cked up reading right there! If you want BDSM and good writing, go for the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy. NOT my thing though... at all.

With your description of it being effed up, now my interest is sparked

And I just misread that as 'now my interest is spanked'.

The Beauty books are good, though. Surprised so many people know about them. Makes me feel much less like the kinky perv that I surely am!

    [But:
    Wanton.
    Oh My.
    Laters, Baby.
    Inner Goddess.
    REPEAT!!
    don't forget:
    gasp
    murmur
    eyes widening
    my subconscious
    Holy Crap

    LIP BITTEN!

And honestly, that inner-goddess would have eventually broken a leg with all those damn back-flips.

lol..I did want to knock the inner goddess out a couple of times

I think my favorite parts of the books were when they exchanged emails. I liked the banter back and forth. Beyond that her inner goddess annoyed me too much to enjoy the rest of the book. *yawn* The only reason I kept reading is because there was a tid bit of a story line in there and I wanted to see what happened. And I'm not going to spoil it for those of you who haven't read the last book yet, but the last book was a HUGE disappointment for me. I almost quit reading it. Did not care for the ending at all.

I thought this said "50 Shades of Gay". Now I'm seriously dissapointed.

In all seriousness, the reason it's like a "poorly written Twilight" is because it IS A POORLY WRITTEN TWILIGHT. It was written as an INTERNET FAN FICTION of Twilight. The names were changed to avoid copyright issues. *facepalm* So if you like melodramatic women with self esteem issues clincing to overbearing and controlling men with some porn/lol/ thrown in - this book is for you!

i just have to step up on this for a min - i am a fanfic writer and not ALL fanfic is bad. is there some srs crap out there written by confused 12 yo's? yes. but there's also a LOT of really exceptionally-written, well-characterized, beautiful stories. and most of them have porn. i'm talking the GOOD porn.

i have been in competiton for awards where the writing level was so amazing that i couldn't believe my pure, dumb luck at being in consideration.

50 Shades isn't well-written, it's the bad porn, and i have no idea how it got published.

but just b/c something starts as fanfic does NOT mean that it's not good.

    *gets off soapbox*

she published it herself and had no editor. Thus......

Move on to Cherise Sinclair....oh so much better. there is also the Marketplace series. i'm thinking Amazon has those.

Worst? It is more explicit...but it's better written than Shades.

I highly recomend The Beauty Series as well though.

Now I think I found a new series or two to read...thank :)

Appropriate for non-prudish adults: yes, appropriate for teens: no.

The books are ok, not great but not bad. If' you're read the first Twilight, take out the vampire/werewolf stuff and add in BDSM and you basically have the story. IMO, there are many books that are much better out there but 50 Shades is certainly the fad right now.

    whats BDSM?

BDSM stands for bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, and sadism and masochism. It covers a variety of sexual practices that involve things like tying each other up, power dynamics, and giving/receiving pain. Some people refer to it as kink. For many people it's a taboo subject, probably because some people view it as abusive. The key difference is BDSM is practiced between consenting adults.

Which is the problem with 50 Shades, if the reviews I read are accurate. The two main characters might technically be adults, but they're very childish. IMO, too childish to be engaging in any form of sex, much less BDSM. And that 'reluctant, I don't want to, but I love you and you need me to so you talked me into it, ooo wait, I like it' female character bit. Could it be any more worn out? I mean really? Put that cliche to bed already and let it never again see the light of day.

I have not read it myself, but the reviews I've heard said that the BDSM aspect was very unrealistic. Dubious consent, no safe words, etc.

The Beauty books are unrealistic, too, come to that, but she gets away with it by setting it in a completely fantasy world where basically nothing is realistic. For any other setting, in particular dubious consent bothers me, though the review said she signed some contract or other, I guess the author thought that would cover it? I don't know, after reading the reviews and a few snippets I have no desire to read the books. I just wanted to beat the female character senseless, and not in a sexy way.

    And "biting her lip"

I tried the first book and thought is was stupid. The part with the tampon- really?? Just dumb

LMFAO I forgot about the tampon thing! Ugh!

And the gold foil wrapper

Hah! That's right, for whatever reason the author refused to use the word "condom" and constantly had Ana referring to her lady parts as "my sex".

It's based on the idea of Twilight. It's not great writing. It's not that into BDSM, it's almost as if she didn't even want them to do that. All she did was write about the rules of it. Compared to most romance novels, it's pretty vanilla.

To say I was disappointed is an understatement. People just like it because there is a big hype about it.

Anyone who wants to read a very interesting (and well written) article on her 50 Shades experience, this is it (NSFW due to language).

I recently got the 50 shades trilogy and I must say I'm hooked! It's basically about this girl, Ana, who meets a guy called Christian Grey. In book one they embark upon a BDSM Dominant/Submissive relationship, but she leaves him at the end of the book. In book 2, she accepts his proposal of marriage and has a showdown with "Mrs Robinson" who we meet in book 1. In book 3, well I've not finished it but atm they're married and happy etc.

It's a great book, graphic scenes in some parts but it's well worth the read.

    whats BDSM?

You don't need to read this book for the following reasons:

    1. You like Twilight
    2. You don't know what BDSM is
    3. It's a horribly written book
    4. Magic Mike is almost out
    5. You like Twilight

Number 4 is the ONLY excuse I need not to read it... :blushing:

Lost a bet with my friend so I've read them (almost - still trying to force my way through book 3).

BTW it's twilight fan fiction. It's written poorly. It's super repetitive. It's not that "out there" imo, and there are WAY better romance novels if that's what you are into.

I have ZERO idea why they are so popular. My opinion of women keeps dropping and dropping.

The writing is mediocre at best, BUT some of the $ex scenes are rather inspiring! I've been saying for weeks that husbands, boyfriends, and lovers everywhere should be thanking the author, E L James.

Hah! That's right, for whatever reason the author refused to use the word "condom" and constantly had Ana referring to her lady parts as "my sex".

Or she's say...."and he touched me...'there"" as if it's too naughty to say WHERE he was touching her. I mean we all knew, but c'mon, you're busting out the handcuffs, blindfolds and butt plugs but you can't speak a body part? LoL. Ridiculous.
