We got a dog from Africa when I was a kid. That's my one and only experience with Africa, but I'm quite jealous that you live on a game farm. My dad loves big game hunting, maybe Incan convince him to take me on safari....0 -

Earlier this year I stayed at the Rhino & Lion Nature Reserve - West of Johannesburg and whilst there, a team of VET's removed the horn off the dominant male Rhino - but it died under anaesthetic, it was a sad day !
Ironic it was, as they were trying to save the Rhino from future Poachers.0 -
@janessafantas, that is so wonderful, what type of dog is it? Yes, an African Safari is absolutley one thing everyone must do in their life times! There is no other experience that compares to the primal feeling of sitting around a fire hearing the lions roar through the night, or witnessing elephants bathing in the river... Sigh! I am far too spoiled here haha!
@tas3980: This is fantastic news! What are you planning to do whilst in South Africa? This is where I am living, so if you need to book accommodation in the bush, the I can help you out :-).
@mikejacobs195 - This is indeed very ironic! I remember this well, it was all over the news. What a small world that you were there at the time! At our game reserve, all of the rhinos have recently had to have their horns removed due to the terrible poaching crisis here - We even had one rhino poached this time last year. They cut off his horn while he was still ALIVE!! On a happier note, though, Rhino & Lion is a great place I have heard!0 -

She passed away when I was still a child actually, her name was Kay and she was a Rhodesian Ridgeback. She was a totally useless lion hunter because she was gun shy, but she was the sweetest dog ever. I remember giving her baths in the summer and giggling with my older sister while we would suds up her mohawk and flatten it out and wait for it to spring back up. Such beautiful dogs. I'm very jealous of you getting to see elephants all the time! I'm traveling around east asia for spring break and I'm hoping to be able to see some pretty pachyderms while I'm there!0 -
