"it only takes 3 weeks to train for a 5K race"?

That makes me sad. It took me about 15 weeks LOL.
    :grumble: 3 weeks
    I am doing wk8day3 tomorrow for c25k.
I've been running since May. My goal is to complete my official first 5k this Sunday. I'm super super anxious about the 5k because I'm so slow. I know I know ...time isn't that important but my kids are gonna be there and I don't want to be the old lady at the end. I'm working on my pride and vanity next.

    Here's my current training.
MWF. 2.5 -2.8 miles for approx 30 min.
T TH. 30day shred for resistance and core work
Sat. Run the 5K route. Time has varied from 32 -42 minutes.

What kills me is that first mile. It is just this mental block telling me I should just stop. When I get past the second mile I can pick up the pace.
Any advice would be great! I'm addicted to the running forums here on MFP. :drinker:

Cogratulations on being ready for your first 5K! I bet you will find when you get started with all of the other runners motivation at the beginning will not be a problem. My problem is keeping myself from going out too fast during a real race. Beware that running these races is addicting! Ran my first 5K last Thanksgiving and have since completed many more (still waiting to break the 30 min mark!), done 4 10Ks and am now training to do a 1/2 marathon in the fall.

The humidity finally broke here so I plan to do 4 miles tonight. I can't go until 8ish because of apts, and I'm going on a vacation on Sat so I have that nagging feeling of I should clean and pack, AND my kid won't be home tonight so I have that other nagging feeling that I should lay on the couch and drink wine... but I'm going to commit to the four miles. And then maybe a glass of wine on the couch.

Great Job for Day 1 of our Virtual Running Group.

You all make me want to run again tomorrow.

I am wondering if it is best to start our own group since there is a section for that on MFP. Is that the correct "netiquette"?

Day Two: No alarm needed! Yay!

Jogged my same route as yesterday- didn't walk at all. Legs felt better today.

Not sure if I want to jog tomorrow too or do a strength training video. I should probably do both- jog in the morning and video at night.

Today I entered the lottery for the TC 10-Mile, which goes from DT Mpls to DT St Paul. I'll find out on 7/23 if I'm in. They are taking 8,500 runners this year. Fingers crossed...
  • Gentle run this evening in the rain (boo). 6.5 miles in 62 minutes. Didn't push it and finished with no aches and pains. Nice. :-)
  • Yesterday I ran 3 miles in 31 minutes. Tomorrow will be another 3 miles plus strength training. I'm on week 2 of Hal Higdon's half marathon training program. My first half is September 16th. I'll post tomorrow what my time is for my run.

That's the training program I will be using for my half training, too, at the end of this month. My half is at the end of October. :)

Last night did 16k(10miles) in just under 1hour 25minutes. Fastest time I have managed on that circuirt

Marathon is in October and its actually becoming a possibility(i think)

thats 8mins40 seconds per mile, not bad.

Well so far this week :

    Monday - 5.6km - lunchtime - 43mins
    Wednesday - 4km - lunchtime - 29mins
    Today - 4km - lunchtime

I've set myself a 75km in July challenge. I've done one third of that, within 11 days of July, so I'm pretty much on target.

I'm super slow, but trying to build up my distance for now.

    :)

I don't think thats slow at all. You should try doing a longer run on the weekends(all the plans I read suggest it). I have notice my pace has increased greatly the last two weeks and I think its because of the longer runs I've been throwing in(long for me is 10mile/16k)

I second this. Do a longer run one day a week. Also try intervals for faster foot turnover. I'm so slow and just slog it, but I'm starting to incorporate hill training and interval training. It has helped me.

    Tuesday: 3 m 40 minutes Treadmill Evening
Wednesday 2.7 m 40minutes Treadmill (hill training) Evening

I have a similar pace. I am training for a 10K currently. Last night I did 17 min run, 1 min walk, 17 min run, 1 min walk, 17 min run, 1 min walk and that ended up being 4.29 miles. That's the farthest I've run to date!

Ran this morning, 3 miles in 27 and some seconds. I think you'd like Dailymile. Its a very supportive online community where you post your workouts. Gives some interesting statistics too :) Feel free to add me on there! It's great for accountability!
