What sacrifices have you given up to lose weight?

I haven't really given up anything, but there are foods that I eat less often than I used to. It's all in moderation now instead of shoving my face full of 3000+ calories a day. I will not deprive myself, but if it doesn't fit in my daily allowance, then I'm not having it.0

beer its a hard one because i like it but biggest part of my diet problem so by by beer lol0

Fried foods. In the south it's a hard thing to give up but considering I've also stopped eating out it takes the temptation away.
Gave up a lot of the snacks I used to eat, too. Pasta and bread were the hardest though. I'm part Italian and my father's side was always way into the Italian way of pasta, bread to sop it up, and wine. I used to eat bowls of white rice by itself, I haven't had white rice since starting. I admit to a dinner roll now and again, but nothing like the loaves of garlic and oil-encrusted stuff I used to eat.0 -
I haven't given up anything -- no sacrifices. If I really want something, I eat it and that's that. I don't binge on things. I eat good foods - as much as I want. I do the amount of exercise I feel is right for me. It's really simple. I don't buy into the 1200 calories a day, starvation program. I don't buy in to calories in, calories out. I think when you have to sacrifice, you'll lose weight quickly. But you'll also get it all back plus more. I'm in it for the long haul.0

Diet Caffeine Dr Pepper. I used to drink a few a day and now I haven't had one in over 85 days...Of course that doesn't make a difference in my weight... I guess the biggest thing I have given up would be sugar... I love to bake and unless it is gluten free, I don't bake it...0

Nothing!! I eat pretty much whatever I want and exercise...works for me!!
thats what i do...lol,i ate McDonalds last week and so that night,i worked out.
I'm not going to tell myself no,i just have to workout to be able to "subtract" calories.0 -
Baking. I loved it... cookies, muffins, cakes, pies, tarts, puddings (wonder how I put on so much weight...)... measuring, mixing, experimenting with flavours and techniques. But even with a few other people around to eat the stuff I made I still found that I was eating at least 1/3 of what I made within the week and then baking something else. Now I just stick to reading cookery books and watching it on the TV.0

Soda, French Fries, White Bread, Second Helpings, Chocolate0

No more Jamocha Shakes from Arby's... At least not until I've earned it0

I can't put my finger on anything that I "gave up" to lose weight. I think you can have what you want in moderation. If I've learned anything I would say the biggest thing is to be aware of what you are eating.0

The chip shop, crisps, chocolate, and sweeties. I say "given up", but I just don't eat them very often now.
I used to go to the chip shop 2-3 times a week for a bag of chips with loadsa mayo. Now I've been 4 times in 4 months.
Once or twice a week on my food shop I'd buy pickled onion Walkers and a kids bag of lemonade sour laces. Can't remember the last time I had either.
And I've had the odd chocolate thing here and there, as long as it's not every day then I'm fine with it.
I'm going to start planning things in to my diary I think. Maybe a pizza once a month, and a cone of chips once a month. If I eat crap on a spur of the moment decision, it's like then I just cannot stop eating it for the next week!0 -
I stopped sacrificing goats to Baehektosh.
Glad to see I'm not the only one on here who made a snarky remark about the grammar.0 -
Out of all the things I've given up to lose weight, soda was the hardest for me. I was at one point drinking 6 or 7 cans (sometimes more) a day. Needless to say, that had to stop.
Sure, I have a bit of a sweet tooth but I have managed to introduce my sweet snacks back into my diet in moderation. I have had to find healthier alternates to some of them but I'm okay with that.
Pop, on the other hand, is just a problem. I crave it continuously & can never stop when I say I will. I simply cant be trusted to not go overboard it's something that's just cut out of my diet indefinitely.0 -
I've given up alcohol, milk chocolate/white chocolate, espresso drinks, diet soda, regular yogurt, ice cream, fast food, and white processed grains.0

A different spin on this.
I've given up my ability to not give a &*$! what I eat. I've given up coming home from work, plopping my butt on the couch/Xbox/computer, ordering a pizza or Chinese and devouring my emotions. I've given up walking down to the corner store, coming home with a shopping bag of junk food and binging like there's no tomorrow.
Do I miss some of those foods? Sure, but if I really want it, I'll plan some into my calories. But, I honestly don't want any. I think since I've decided to save myself rather than destroy myself, I look at those kind of foods differently. That might sound extreme to some but that's how I see it.0 -
Tim hortons coffee. Now I do chai tea with sweetener. Miss the creamy double doubles0

I'm 37 years old 5'-10" 150LBS. SW=165, GW =150 CW =145/147, Min W =141 (Sunday Morning)
Over the course of last week period(7/8-7/14), I ate pizza (whole pie), sandwich with bacon and guacamole and chips and everything, BBQ with corn bread and Mac 'n Cheese, Sausage, eggs, cheese, Burritos & Tacos, nuts & chocolate, Chinese, Indian, Vietnamese, Thai and still lose some weight (4 lbs, -I didn't plan to).
But, I don't drink sodas nor alcohol. (I don't like them). And I sleep A LOT (7-8 Hr/day)
I would NOT recommend my last week's menu to anyone. But, it proves that you can still be healthy with good amount of exercise and everything in moderation. I do track everything I eat and I plan everything I plan eat for the rest of my day and log 90% of them first thing in the morning (I cook and pack all my meals and snacks). So I know exactly how much room do I have for each fun stuffs I want to eat.
Again and again and again, this is suppose to be a life style change. It got to be sustainable. So spend more time on your planning stage and figure out something that would work! Don't just jump into any diet band wagon only to know that you cannot keep it up and waste all your time and efforts.
Please feel free to review my profile and diary and ask me any questions. Good luck and have fun.0 -
I used to lots of candy every day. I would have a bag of chocolate and a big movie theater sized box of SweeTarts at my desk at work, replacing them as "needed."
I haven't had either one since I started, but I have had a brownie here and there when I have enough calories left at the end of the day.0 -
Mayonnaise, bread, chocolate, candy in general, cheese, pasta, crisps, chips, red meat, cheesecake, nutella... I still eat all these things occasionally, but nowhere near as much as I used to.
And alcohol. I still drink, but I used to drink 3 - 5 times a week, so I've cut down helluva lot.0 -
taco bell and mac n cheese..oh how i miss it.0

Mostly fast food. I used to eat out for lunch several times a week and probably once during the weekend. I still enjoy the stuff when I allow myself to have it but it's very few and far between because I know it's straight terrible for me. I've enjoyed making copy-cat meals that are leaps and bounds healthier. Like make it myself non-breaded and non-fried sesame chicken or moo shu chicken, grilled turkey burgers with lettuce, pickle onion and russian dressing (not special sauce lol!!)
Edit: Also - WINE. I like sweet wine so it's loaded with calories and I used to go through a bottle in a week. Now I have a collection in my wine fridge and have maybe a glass a week.0 -
Hmm.. well lots of things I guess, frappuccinos, candy, soda, I almost never have fast food any more, I don't use sauces, butter, or dressing (except a lite berry one) and I don't put sugar in my coffee anymore. It's easy for me to give up most of it though because I never really liked condiments or anything like that. The hardest one was the sugar in my coffee.0
-
I don't believe in giving up everything completely because that will lead to me craving and binging. I have stopped having chocolate milk with breakfast, no fast food breakfasts weekly (hell I can't recall the last time I had fast food for breakfast), no extra large iced caramel coffee with cream and sugar (been a long time for even a small 1)...I have made sure I make the things I love healthier or I just eat smaller portions of it such as; pizza (my thin fiancee and I would split a large but now I have 2-3 pieces and a salad) and Mac-n-Cheese (same here we would eat a whole box but now I make sure we have leftovers)
I make sure everything I want to eat fits within my goals 90% of the time and I don't beat myself up if I slip bc chances were I knew about the overage day.0 -
I have given up ignorance. Blissful, beautiful ignorance.0
-
I wouldn't say I've sacrificed anything. But I had to modify the amount and quantities of my favorite things. I haven't had a hamburger in months!!0
-
I am weaning myself off of soda... It is a special treat now - a reward for going grocery shopping... I don't keep any in the house anymore and sometimes it is killer!!!:drinker:0

Virgins.0

Cheese...it's weird to not put it on my salads, sandwiches, tacos, etc. but it cuts back on calories big time. And I surprisingly don't miss the taste of it.
Chips...my husband is a chip addict so they're always in the house. I didn't think I ate that many on a weekly basis. but apparently I did. I've craved them the most in the past week or so.0
