I snack on a handful of Quaker Oatmeal Squares at least once a day.0

The trick with cereals is portion control! I couldn't live without them.0

I eat one serving (1 cup) of Kashi Go Lean with 1/2 cup fat-free milk every morning. It's very tasty and has a good amount of protein. I wouldn't eat it at night though. You don't need to eat a bowl of cereal at night.0

I like cereal, but don't generally eat it because it leaves me starving an hour later. Sometimes when I am craving a bowl I will have one as a snack at night.
Why would it matter if cereal is eaten in the morning or at night? I mean do you limit tomatoes to dinner or a sandwich to lunch?0 -
I don't eat the commercially prepared ones because they are kind of expensive. In the winter I just have a bowl of cooked hot scottish oats with some nut butter and apples, and in the warm weather I sometimes make my own granola style cereal.
Just go to bulk foods in your grocery or natural foods store. You can get puffed grains like brown rice, millet, etc. and/or rolled oats, barley, whatever you want. You can toast them, or not (to toast lay them out on a cookie sheet and pop in a 200 degree oven for about 10 minutes - just keep an eye out because they burn). Toss in a large bowl with chopped nuts, dried fruit if you like. And then for flavoring, I'd heat nut butter and honey (or maple sugar) in a pot on the stove, stir, and fold into the grain/nut mixture. Yum!
You can make loads of cereal for the cost of one box. It freezes very well too, so you don't have to worry about it going stale.0 -
natures path cinnamon and blueberry flax is sooooo goood!0

i like total cereal.
100 calories per serving and you get a big dose of vitamins.0 -
I eat giant 4 cup bowls of cereal 4-5 times a week. Right now I'm doing 2 cups of Cherrios mixed with 2 cups of Fiber One Honey squares. Pure awesomeness. In fact I'm going to have that tonight. It's all about calories in vs. calories out.0

No, cereal does not fill me up. I would have to have several portions.0

Almost every day, I have a 2 or 3 serving bowl of an unsweetened cereal like cheerios, corn flakes, or rice krispies. You can have a huge amount for not many calories. I add a little sugar and some unsweetened vanilla almond milk. Even if I'm ravenous and have a huge a huge serving, it amounts under 400 calories.0

Multi-grain cherrios...I keep a box of them in my desk at work to fill in for breakfast if I don't have time to get something else. A cup is only 110 calories and really fills you up.0

I don't eat cereals because to me, they are empty calories...... I do make baked oatmeal using protein powder and old fashioned oats.... that's about as far as my cereal eating goes.0
-
I've always incorporated cereal into my diet, I couldn't last the morning without it and I stay clear of toast as I try not to eat much bread. I'm currently having sultana bran each day and that does me for a few hours x0

There are almost no cereals without loads of sugar. I have spent hours in the cereal aisle looking at nutritional labels. The only really good one is the original fiber one. It actually uses a sugar substitute and is mostly fiber and bran starch.
All those ads targeted at children claiming to be a "healthy" cereal.... so untrue.
I'm not totally against sugar but get enough of it from all the cottage cheese, milk and yogurt I eat.0 -

Curious as to why you call it empty calories? Original Special K (not even the best example) is far from nutrionally void:
Calories 120 Sodium 220 mg
Total Fat 1 g Potassium 20 mg
Saturated 0 g Total Carbs 23 g
Polyunsaturated 0 g Dietary Fiber 0 g
Monounsaturated 0 g Sugars 4 g
Trans 0 g Protein 6 g
Cholesterol 0 mg
Vitamin A 15% Calcium 0%
Vitamin C 35% Iron 45%
From your diary:
Weight Watchers - Divine Triple Chocolate Ice Cream Bar, 1 bar 110 18 5 3 3 30
Those are some empty calories by comparison :flowerforyou:0 -
Honey Bunches of Oats is my weakness0
-
yup, I love kashi cereals, also they help me get enough protein0
-
I love love love chocolate cheerios and fruity cheerios.0
-
I love Fruit Loops and Cocoa Pebbles....you know, the crap that's loaded with sugar? But who cares? I work my *kitten* off, why can't I splurge when I want to?0
-
I am VERY selective about which cereals I eat.
Most have been demineralized and loaded up with sugar.
Most are very unhealthy - no better than eating a candy bar.0 -
I heard that same thing. That is a problem for me because I LOVE cereal! I'm a big breakfast food person. I could eat things like cereal all day long at anytime of day!0
