The only one I really believed was the one about starvation mode... and now you're telling me, that's not true??
(I do think some of the other are sometimes true for certain people in certain situations-- like IF you have a gluten sensitivy, it very well may be adding to the weight problem... and I do know that when I eat too much high-salt-foods my wedding ring is tighter- does that mean sodium m akes me fat? I doubt it, but for me- too much makes my wedding ring tighter.... and dairy- I know that 'too much' (which is just anything more than 1 serving daily)- makes my gut feel 'heavy'- so I know for me, I need to watch how much milk and cheese I get..
wheat/grains? I can't eat them at breakfast (pancakes, toast, etc) because I will have a headache all day and I am famished all day. But I am fine with them at lunch or dinner and sometimes toast before bed helps my low blood sugar not be as bad in the morning. (and low blood sugar means for me, I do need food every 3 hours- but I know that is me and not the world in general
I think maybe the most important thing (asside from the in general- eat healthy and burn some calories) is to know your own body and how it works (but don't tell everyone that is how it works as a rule.)

and I thought I was so smart and knew everything. sad face. So even my above thought on knowing your own body and what works for you- might just be wrong, too. (but it works for me)

I don't understand all this. I figure it's calories in versus calories out. If you eat more than you burn, gain weight, Burn off more than you eat and LOSS. I do the VLCD, less than 600 a day, do not feel cheated or deprived, hungry or any of the sort, More energy than I ever had before losing, but still bunch to go. I burn over 1400-1600-1800 a day and hopefully keep going down down.
I don't eat carbs, no sugars, mostly have salads and little protein each day.
Whatever, I just want it off0 -
i'm on the pill and it hasn't made me gain weight. i gained weight because i ate too much!
Me too! And I lost 20 lbs while on the pill and eating wheat.

I believe it's mostly mind over matter. If you have the determination and willpower, you can accomplish almost anything. That's more than half the battle.0

Can you cite a reputable source regarding your thoughts on gluten? I'm pretty sure it's just a form of protein that some people are sensitive to or unable to digest (but most aren't).
I have a couple family friends who are celiac (sp?) and can't eat gluten, because essentially it makes them sick. However I'm not sure this is what she was talking about.0 -
I have lost 31lbs and now the weight my Dr is happy with. I am on the Pill for medical reasons not birth control and I love pasta and bread (gluten!). The Pill does not stop you losing weight - I just worked on calories in must = calories out and lost weight and am now successfully maintaining my new weight!
Suggesting people stop taking the Pill in dangerous - it could result in unplanned pregnancy and for people like me increased hormonal problems potentially leading to depression and aneamia. Be careful what you post!0 -

Ok guys here is the truth.
Long ago, I started out on the typical body builder diet of lean meats, eggs, vegetables, fruits, brown rice, oatmeal, peanut butter, greek yogurt etc.
I've cut out carbs and starches.
I've been a vegetarian
I've been a vegan
I've done 100% raw diets and 80/10/10 as well.
I have seen hands down the best and fastest results to a lean body by doing cardio exercise 6 days a week, and eating on a strict calorie deficient using this app.
No matter what you eat.
Calories in Vs. Calories out for weight loss, period.
There is a lot of misinformation out there, and we are all guilty of getting caught up in it from time to time. Ultimately, years of experimenting on myself turned out to be the best route to learning the truth for me. I hope you don't have to go through that.0 -
1) Excess calories.
2) Eating more calories then you burn.
3) Burning less calories than you eat.
4) Failing to create a calorie deficit
5) Sudden increase in gravity.
6) Corn.
I am joking about 6).

True cals in vs cals out is what matters, some people would like to hold onto some lbm while dieting down, so 10% protein and 6 days of cardio is prob not recommended for their goals0 -

What's the point of loosing weight fast if in the end your body is weak and unhealthy? It's not mind over matter, it's crazy. Your body needs what it needs and you're ignoring it.0 -
I am definitely NOT going to be taking any hormone supplements. That goes against my beliefs. Eating the right kinds of foods is much more safe.

Willpower only goes so far. Eventually you get so hungry your pets start to look appetising, except at that point you lack the ability to catch and kill the fluffy beasts. Bariatric surgeons insist on vlcd (Optifast, blech) pre-weightloss surgery because they want you to prove that you can stick to a restricted diet for a period. Also, there's apparently a surgical reason for this, but I was over the consult by the time the surgeon got to that part. The reason they don't just send you away with a lifetime supply of crapshakes and a few kind words is not because they're out to get your cash but because they know that after a week, a few weeks, a few months if you're really lucky, that willpower's going to wane and anything that can go down your gob will go down. So hey, keep at the vlcd if you want, but don't expect long term results unless it's just a prelude to surgery.0 -

Your hormonal response to the stimuli your body is subjected to has a lot to do with the reactions you have. From food to stress and on and on. I'll add that you do have to be in a caloric deficit to lose any kind of weight. It is a macro rule, but just the fact that you're there doesn't mean you'll lose.0 -

About the birth control thing: it's the depo provera shot that causes weight gain. Don't know why, but most women who get the shot experience weight gain that they cannot prevent as long as their receiving the shot. Some other birth controls can contribute to weight gain, but not with the consistency of depo. Hormonal changes can drastically affect how and where women gain weight.0

Birth control pills?! You know what will really make me put on weight? Having a baby because I didn't take my birth control pills. They will not stop weight loss, or make you put weight on. Just change your routine a bit rather than blaming something so many women take. We're not doomed to be bigger than we want. Jeeze. Don't boss people around so!0
