  • I posted this review on my FB because I agreed with whole heartedly! Stupidest. Books. Ever!

However, having said that, I'm a teacher, so I love it when people read....even books I don't like. So other people can read the series; I wouldn't waste my time. Read other great books like The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, The Help, The Book Thief, Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series, anything!

I read the first one and have no interest in reading the rest. I heard she keeps going on about her "inner goddess", and I really have no interest in reading all her repetitive phrases and how much Ana keeps "blushing furiously".

or how many times can one bloody woman bight her lip... or say "HOLY CRAP"

I read the first book, it was really good. The 2nd book I'm more into the plot of what's happening though and the sex crap is getting old.

the writing is pretty awful and redundant, but the sex crap never gets boring.....and the fantasy of having a sexy, gorgeous billionaire who gets a 10 in bed.....priceless

I couldn't even get through the sample I downloaded on my Kindle. It read like the work of a horny teenager.

bahahahahah LOVED That review! Thank you!

I read like 150 pages of the book and was too annoyed with the whole contract/controlling every aspect of her life to continue.

I actually liked the books. They are not great works of literature or anything, but still enjoyable.

It's this kind of ignorant trash that sets feminism back decades. Women who defend this book are, however unwittingly, participating in some of the most blatant misogyny I've ever witnessed, giving the impression that some women enjoy being debased, abused, and controlled (outside of a consensual dom/sub relationship). This is not a book about BDSM, this is a book about one sick, abusive man and his obsession with a young, naive invertebrate. It's a book about a girl who has absolutely no sense of self, who sacrifices any pretense of individuality in order to hold onto a man who doesn't even show her the faintest glimmer of respect. It's about two attention-starved individuals with the emotional maturity of toilet paper convincing themselves that their relationship is 'like, the best thing ever, OMG'. It's trite, insulting, and dangerous. I fear for any impressionable young women who read this and think that this is how an ideal relationship should operate. If nothing else, it should be issued as a guidebook to mothers around the world to show their daughters the kind of man to avoid at all costs. This book does good men (and indeed, all of humanity) a disservice.

WELL THAT SUMMED UP MY FEELINGS PERFECTLY

LOL WTF? Some of you guys really need to lighten up. You could say the same thing about ANY Disney princess movie. Ariel sacrificed her family and who she was for a man she barely knew at the age of 15 lol. Can we talk about THAT? I think its HILARIOUS that so many people are getting their panties in a wad over a stupid book. I read all three of the books and I wasn't offended at all because it's NOT REAL. It was written for entertainment purposes ONLY. When people watch porn do they expect it to have a compelling storyline? NO. I personally found it entertaining and funny. It's exactly like the corny Harlequin romance novels that they sell at the drug store. I've been reading those since I was a teenager and you don't see me letting my boyfriend abuse me lol. Also, I don't really find Christian to be abusive to be completely honest. Over protective and crazy? Yes. Abusive? No. What's wrong with getting spanked in the bedroom?! lol I can't believe so many people are so angry over this book. The best part about it is that the fuss just makes the book more popular because it makes people buy it out of curiosity.
  • Soooo how is this going to be a movie? Is it going to be on p0rntube or something?

Seriously. It's supposed to be mostly sex right? I would love to watch all the mommies reading this crap going to see this movie with all their mommy friends and not be uncomfortable.

When I read the first one I imagined the writer was the woman in 10 things I hate about you, the secretary and her pulsing member.

Then I got bored. Realised that this book was not for people who liked literature or even just plan old decent writing. Spent half a day raging over the terrible grammar.

Then went and got a life.

I wasted $10 to see what all the fuss is about. I'm in chapter 24 (I think) of the first book. It's Fifty Shades of Boring, if you ask me. Here's all you need to know:

Anastasia Steele has major self-esteem issues, to the point where the book itself is a turn-off. The story is unrealistic. They don't have sex until chapter nine. I repeat, NO SEX, not even a...well, fill in the blank. If you want it, it ain't happening until - at the absolute earliest - chapter nine. Christian Grey has far too many temper tantrums. The characters are completely unrealistic/hard to relate to/uninteresting. This is just "Twilight" with slightly more graphic sex -- and I mean it: it's first-person from the main character, who is a girl with no confidence or self-worth (same POV, sex, and character as "Twilight"). She lives in Washington (just like the characters in "Twilight"). Everyone in town wants to date her, but she's not interested, until she falls for this young, wealthy guy who has an unrealistic ability to make all women melt (same as in "Twilight"). She even has a crazy, multiple-marriage mother with too many interests and not enough commitment, who lives in a sunny, southern state, and has a new husband that the daughter is entrusting to "look after" her mother (you guessed it). The only difference is that, in "Twilight," Edward is scared to have sex with Bella because he might hurt her; in "Fifty Shades of Grey" Ana is afraid to have sex with Christian because he wants to hurt her (-- BDSM-style, not actually injure her). This girl practically O's every time she thinks about sex...which may be a reality for someone, but not anyone who I know of.

You want a good sex story? The Internet is full of FREE fan fiction with cooler characters, and they have this book beat for plot, writing, and exciting. I don't know why they call it "mommy porn"; if I become a mother, this is still going to bore the heck out of me. (Heck, I'm a virgin and my sex life is more rewarding than this.) Bottom line: I was told that this book was going to excite me...I want a refund.

Edit - forgot to mention that, from what I've heard, this is a misrepresentation of just about everything BDSM-related. Also, I'm a fair-skinned person who blushes a lot -- but NOT THAT MUCH, and I'm pretty sure that nobody in the world could even physically "flush" that often if they were trying to break a world record. Finally, every sex "scene" in the book used the same phrases over and over; there's only so many times a person can run "his hands on [one's] sex" and make his partner's "stomach clench deliciously" before the reader wants to set the book on fire or break their digital reader's screen. Ugh.

I never, ever judge books based on everybody elses opinion.

Yes. They said Twilight sucked and they were right but I still enjoyed myself when I read it! Even while I was laughing at the terrible writing, wonky characters are just general ridiculousness! I still had fun. I have lower standards maybe?

Anyway. My point is that people should just read the book and judge for themselves.

That said... those reviews were HILARIOUS!!!!

    Hahaha... that review was hilarious!

I haven't read Fifty Shades of Grey; at least not in its entirety. I tried to, but I only made it halfway through before I just couldn't take it anymore. What I read was just awful. Both in writing and the anti-feminist messages strewn throughout. Ana is pathetic; worse than Bella from Twilight. I thought I couldn't find a worse male character after Edward Cullen, but Christian Grey makes Edward Cullen look like boyfriend of the year. I don't understand how women can be falling all over him; he's an abusive stalker who has serious issues. He forces Ana into this relationship that she may or may not want to be involved in using the excuse that she'll like it so it's okay. Um... no, its not okay. Just because she may like it doesn't mean he can do it to her.

I don't know much about BDSM, but I'm pretty sure that what Christan and Ana have is NOT how a BDSM relationship works; at least not a very healthy one. Based on what I've read, it appears that their "relationship" is an abusive one using the guise of being BDSM in order to make all the crap Christian does to Ana okay.

And, it being an Erotic novel is NO excuse for it being poorly written with a complete lack of plot. I've read my fair share of Erotica (free online) and I've read several that were well written and had a good plot that doesn't necessarily revolve around sex. It can be done.

Ana is Bella. Fifty Shades is a Twilight fanfiction. The author just replaced Bella with Ana and Edward with Christian.
  • Those were positively the greatest book reviews I have ever seen.

Thumbs up to the beautiful use of gifs.

Yea, I'm aware of that. That just makes it worse, in my opinion. Now I dislike Stephenie Meyer even more because had she not written Twilight then this crappy book would have never been written.

And the funny thing is that the main character is so interested in literature, which makes me think that the author has an interest, too. I totally agree with you, though.

I bought the 50 shades of grey books awhile back. I have gotten through book 1 and 2, but have not started book 3 yet. I sit in a sauna in the evenings and this is something to read while I am in there sweating my butt off. End of Book 1 made me sick to my stomach, but book 2 was easier to get through. Can't believe the author is making 1 million dollars a week off of those books. The sex is getting boring. Come on, no one has that much sex....

Not that I need to explain myself to a stranger on the internet but I actually have. I got called a b*tch, slut, idiot, piece of crap every single day for an entire year and got pushed to the ground every time I didn't agree with him. I wasn't allowed to go out without him, wasn't allowed to see my friends and I wasn't allowed to wear dresses. THAT is abuse. I also knew a girl that was KILLED by her husband so excuse me if I don't think that a guy wanting to spank his girlfriend in sexual situations and is an over protective weirdo is "abusive". Plus, how is it abuse if she likes it? But why does it even matter? IT'S NOT REAL!!! You guys seriously need to calm down. If you want to be an advocate for abused women go donate some money to battered women's shelter instead of squawking on the internet to a bunch of strangers about a stupid book that doesn't effect anyone in a negative manner.

I haven't read it....but from what I've heard, it's nothing like what BDSM is supposed to be. "Safe, sane and consensual" is the rule of the day, and at the very least Christian Grey ignores the third "commandment" from what I understand. I have a very strong feeling that the author has never been in a Dom/sub relationship. Or, if she has, it was *not* a healthy one.

Write about things you know....or at least do your research
