You guys are all awesome!!! :flowerforyou: I did four push ups last night, I also don't think I am going low enough, so I will work on that today. Maybe one that is true perfect form and then work up from there. Anyone know how many an average woman/man should be able to do? I have seen numbers in books but never paid enough attention. I want to be able to surpass average...

I found out yesterday that I have to take a full week off of work since I came down with the flu. I am so broken hearted--:brokenheart:   note the sarcasm. Thanks to the CDC and the fact that I work at the hospital. I will only be missing about 8 hours of work anyway so it isn't too bad.

I took my son to the instacare last night as he had a fever show up again after not having one for several days. Luckily everything is ok. Just enough to start scaring me. The flu is nasty--but not nearly as bad as what I had expected from the news. (I expected to be on my death bed for days--didn't even get close)

    Have a great day! :flowerforyou:

deb - glad he's ok...my neice went to urgent care yesterday and she has H1N1! YUCK! Very sick but with tamiflu and phenergen she's keeping food down today and feeling some better.

Thumper - you are the MAN - that's killer - I'll keep working on my pushups - I can do them on my knees easily so this is a great challenge for me.

Taradise - hold plank position after you push ups - you will so feel it in your whole body - it's an awesome strength workout.

I am barely able to get my chest to the ground with the pushups and actually get myself back up. I have a bit of work to do I think. I did do 5 total yesterday though--only one full form.

Have a big day ahead of me actually catching up on the house from not cleaning for a full week. :explode: I am also trying to do a bunch of deep cleaning so when we put our house on the market we will be ready.

It is awesome to see everyone doing so well with the pushups--Lets keep it up.

I stood on the scale and was 3 lbs heavier this morning. I am sure that it is because of all the salt I ate yesterday. I made a wonderful salty soup yesterday for dinner and had to eat 3 bowls it tasted so good. That was the most I have probably eaten all week. It was a chicken tortilla soup that had refried beans in it. So yummy--I will be having more for lunch today I think, along with a bunch of water!!!

    HAve a great one.

I managed 10 manly pushups this morning. That's some tough stuff.

Spent all day walking around touring the UK... great exercise. Returned to a pot luck sort of thing. Did really well with dinner but gave in a little with the dessert :blushing: That's ok. Tomorrow will be better.

    Keep your head up everyone!!

I went to the gym with my bf this morning. We were working arms and about half way through, he decided it was time for me to do my pushup challenge. So, it was 26 today......before I fell on my face.

I have never been able to do a pull up. Do any of you have any advice on exercises to help me or maybe how you worked up to doing pullups?

I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend.

Pullups, Same muscles are used in Pull downs.
So if you go to a gym, use the pull down machine arms wide apart like you would pull yourself up.
Of course the weight will be lighter than you doing an actually pull up. but work your way up of course.
I found I was able to do chin ups easier than pull ups.. FWIW

TH always has alternatives with his exercises, if you don't go to a gym, you can use the resistance bands, and hang them from top of a door, or ceiling joist.. Somewhere high (make sure it's secure) and pull down while sitting on the floor.

    Awesome job ladies. :flowerforyou:

Good day beautiful blues!! Hope the start of your week is going well.

I did 10 pushups yesterday and today. I'm going to shoot for 11 or 12 tomorrow.

I don't know for sure if this is true... but sometimes I feel that males lose weight faster than females. My husband is not tracking his food like me, is not working out as much as me... but he's lost 7 pounds. He is eating less but he isn't tracking anything. I wonder if all his muscle mass is really helping him along. Don't get me wrong, I am very happy for him. Just wish I could keep up.

Found some super deals this weekend - got hubby a new suit for $60 and found a cocktail dress for me on clearance for $10! Gotta love Marshalls! His pants are a tad snug (purposely) so for the next 3 weeks, it's bootcamp time! Well sort of - we're going to hit the gym hard!

I ran my 2nd 5k this weekend - finished in 36m39sec, jogged every single step - although the hill at the end almost got me!

Congrats Chrissyh on your second 5k!!! I know you are proud that you jogged the entire race. Great job!!

    Hey Blues!!

Congrats Chrissy on your 5k! Sounds like an awesome time & jogging the whole time is just awesome!! Congrats to you on your great deals & on getting your husband in bootcamp!! Have fun with that!

Tara, I agree. Men seemed to be more adapt to losing weight faster! My husband is the same way!

Boo Peter BOOOO!! LOL!! Seriously, though, Peter - thank you for the TH advice on the pull ups!! What a great idea to strengthen those muscles! When you say chin ups & pull ups is the difference mostly in your hand grip?? Either hands facing forward or backwards & how low you dip up and down?? I always imgaine chin ups with a backwards grip & bringing your chin up & over the bar. Whereas pull ups are a front grip & you drop down arms straight & back up again... I've tried doing both on the cross beam of my treadmill - legs straight out in front of me on the floor - it's really tough!! I can only get a few of each in! Honestly, I hate them both, but I know they're working!! LOL!

So, today was step & tone class. I was finally able to raise my step another riser to 2 on each side, since I injured my tendon back in May. I really felt the difference in the intensity! It feels good to be back at it!! 365 cals burned!

Well, gotta run - my little one just woke up from her nap!!

    Kick butt people!

I have heard that before about men losing weight faster.. Because of having more muscle?

Your correct, Difference in hand grip.
i'm finding out there are a variety. Reverse, chin ups are fingers facing you, pull your body up to eyes or chin is even with bar.
Pull ups your fingers are away from you over the bar, close or far, two different styles there.

Don't worry I can't do either :o lol, well when I started I couldn't do any. I think I can do 2 or 3 chin ups un assisted.. TH also gives assisted ways.

If you do have a chin up bar or something......if one foot is on the chair, it helps divide the weight, and your pull/chin ups won't be as tough.. I can do more assited with chair.

Also wanted to list various ways people can do pushups if they are interested various difficulties.

    First timer.
Against a wall, move away from the wall to make it tougher.

    Beginner.
    Against back of couch, stairs
    On knees

    Intermediate.
Normal push ups. hands just outside shoulders.

    Semi advanced.
    hands further apart from shoulders
Hand closer together, even with shoulders or hands close together.

    advanced
Feet up on chair/couch, normal pushup
1 foot up in the air, normal pushup.

    Off to work,
    Have a great day everybody.

this is fabulous information!! Maybe next week we can continue pushups and work to chinups--either doing them or exercises to get us to be able to do them.

Men have always been able to lose weight quicker--it is the way their body is made and the amount of muscle mass they have. Women also have the tendancy to hold on to weight for baby making and feeding. It all goes back to the olden times when food was scarce and the men had to hunt and the women stayed behind feeding the babes.

I finally feel as though I am back in the groove. I exercised this morning allbeit not as long as it should have been, and am cleaning house like crazy--trying to catch up from a week of catering to sick kidlets. Now to get back to watching what I eat. I have had horrible eating between being stressed about not knowing about this house (you think the bank would be able to make a quick decision, right?) and then all of us being sick it has been not good at all!! :blushing: I am going to be better though, I promise--vegies for dinner here I come. :flowerforyou:

alright lady and gents I'm back. I start this morning and don't know if I'm going to get in exercise today or not. I need to just do them right away in the morning after the kids leave for school. Then take a shower than go back to bed.

I have a question for all of you. I'm trying to figure this out. I just went and figured out my BMI and I'm at the border line from overweight to average. 25.5 right now. Last year at my yearly physical the doctor told me she wanted me down to 140. I don't know If I want to get down that low or not. I would like to be at 150-155 and I would feel comfortable with that. You can look at my pics to see what you guys think. Im taller so I look thinner. I have a little bit of flab that I would like to work on but then just be in maintenance mode after I get to the 150 mark. Just thought I would get your opinions.

debnu1, dang my abilities to produce children and the olden days of hunting/feeding. I wish evolution would catch up with us. I don't need so much fat!! Ha!

debnu1 glad that your getting your groove back. One step at a time. I often find that when I exercise, I will eat healther without much thought. Unconsiciously, I don't want to ruin all the hard work from exercise with a bad meal.

j_g4ever, I think that as long as your BMI is healthy... all is well. However, there is a big weight range for everyone, and I think a weight within the range is fine too.

On a side note, I managed 12 push-ups this morning.

Jess - if you're in a healthy BMI don't worry about the pounds! My weight goal is higher than many I've seen on here but I think I'll be very happy with it.

taradise - you're my hero - 12 pushups! I forgot to do them yesterday since I had my strength class - I did a bunch but the "girly" kind in the class - oops - I'll get them in today....I've decided not to worry so much about how many but to be sure my form is correct and I'll build from there.

debnu-I know you can do it - you will surprise yourself!

Jess, I think your plan is great--as long as your BMI is healthy and you feel comfortable that is what really matters.

I am off to exercise and do my pushups--I think I will try to do a couple perfectly and then do a bunch on my knees. Here I thought I was doing good and then I realize that I really am not going low enough...I guess something else to work on. So chrissy I guess I am following in your footsteps...

    Have a great day everyone!:flowerforyou:

Don't give up.. You can do this. Have you checked measurements?

    For outside:
I know it sucks being cold here too in Toronto, my fiancee is in calgary for few days and she told me she was wearing mitts yesterday. I went out once jogging in the cold couple weeks back and that ended my C25k training for this year.
Unless, we do what others do. Dress warmer. I'll admit when I went for that jog, I wasn't dressed enough as I found out afterwards. There's many who do keep going out in the cold.
    So what is stopping us.
Challenge for this upcoming week. Those that are in a colder climate, let's get out for those walks, maybe a jog when it's colder. Just put layers of clothes on, mitts etc.
    I'll attempt it again.

    For Inside:
Most people seem to buy some workout DVD. There are many on the market. My fiancee and I also bought a Wii a short while ago, and I had started on EA active and Wii fitness coach. Both were good IMO. Then I got P90x. SO I swayed from Wii.

There's choices out there, it's the choice we make.
    Buy a DVD workout.
    Create a workout at home.
Dress warm and go out for a walk/jog
    Join a gym/fitness place.

There will be times when we won't like the choices, but don't look at today, but look where we will be in the future.

Don't give up on us! Don't give up on yourself!!! You can do this. This is your life and your health, only you control it. I can understand how discouraging a plateau could be. But this is a lifestyle change not just a diet. Stick with us!! You are worth it!!

thumper provided some great suggestions for exercise. I totally agree. Workout DVD's are my go to for at home exercise.

Take it one day at a time. If its too much for you, do one small thing and built on that.

I think this is more a bad couple of days talking more than anything ( I have been in a foul mood all morning at it is not a good thing at work :grumble: ) I just need to slow down and reevaluate what I am doing

But sometimes a good pep talk does wonders

Remember, your not alone in this journey.:flowerforyou:

Since I sent that previous message, I put my HRM on and went out for a walk/jog it's about 12C today so, I put TH on hold to go enjoy the nice weather.
It felt great. 400 cal burn.

smadag - don't you dare give up on yourself.....you've worked too hard. I agree - it is getting to cold to be outside - I like thumper's idea's about DVDs - I lived from them last winter I rotated between 30 day Shred, Biggest Loser Cardio and Biggest loser Sculpt

Gotta brag- I had a phone message from my daughters Spanish 5 teacher...yesterday Bay's assignment was to teach the SPanish 3 class - teacher called to tell me she taught for over an hour and did an amazing job - I am so proud of her! She is planning on double majoring in SPanish and Elementary Education so she sort of got a taste of both!

I went to the fitness center on my lunch and did 40 minutes on the elliptical - 375 calories by my heartrate monitor - well over 500 if I looked at the machine (I only count HRM)

Sometimes complaining does wonders!!:flowerforyou: I know I always feel better after complaining to somebody. I needed the pep talk too!

The best investment I have ever made (actually my husband bought it) was a treadmill. I hated going outside and walk/jogging as I felt that everyone was staring at me. So now I watch my favorite shows on the treadmill and it is great! I would rather do that than anything actually. Before I got the treadmill I actually used Leslie Sansone's video--she walk/jogs you and it is really great. I also love 30 day shred and others--I just find my motivation is better with the treadmill.

Have any of you seen the info on Jillians show for next year? It looks interesting. She is going to move in with a family and teach them how to do things right. I don't know that I could handle having her in my house...I would be really scared to have her as a trainer too. I think she does great work but she can be scary!

    Enjoy TBL tonight!!

Hey everyone! I hope you're all having a good start to the week.. I'm doing better with my exercise lately than I have been. I did 36 pushups yesterday after kickboxing class. I think I'm gonna give my shoulders a little break today.

I have a question. Do you all still weigh in on Wednesday?

    Yep still weighins on wednesday.
    Good look tomorrow all.

    pshook, Awesome job, 36 pushups.
You already mentioned you did military pushups (hands closer to your body)?
Next time your at it, try lifting one leg up. Give you that extra burn.

Make sure you stretch those muscles too.. I was sore for 1-2 days after my last chest/back workout.
