Juice?

I dont drink much juices anymore cause Im trying to stay under my calorie goal so Im just drinking nothing but water all day long! Should I be drinking any type of juice like orange, apple, or cranberry for any reason? What kind of juice do you drink if you do?

i don't think juice is a requirement nutritionally. eating fruit is much better than juice b/c it has fiber. eat an apple with a glass of water instead of apple juice. eat a handful of grapes instead of grapejuice. etc.

I stay away from juice. If I need taste in my liquid then I drink Crystal Light. A good point to remember is if you're seriously trying to lose weight then don't drink your calories, unless it's has protein in it. All juice is mostly carb.

All the storebought juice has extra sugars in it. I have a juicer and juice fresh vegetables or fresh fruit. Or like others said, eat the fruit and have water :)

Well, most juices have High Fructose Corn Syrup, not to mention other preservatives and flavoring protectants... so yes, store bought juices do have much more sugar.

I drink Trop50 orange juice. 16 oz is only 100 calories and 1000 g of potassium. I don't drink a lot of apple... but I could drink some cranberry if I needed to.

You clearly have never heard of 100% juice....it's really not difficult to read a label. I've never purchased a juice with added anything.

Read the nutrition label. Many of them brand their products by taking the natural route!

You don't need juice. Water, water, water baby! It hydrates you and keeps your feeling satisfied between meals. I agree with another poster that recommending eating your fruit instead of drinking it. Also watch out for the artificial sweetners. Studies suggest those can be just as dangerous as the real deal.

Most juices have little nutritional value- many of the vitamins are destroyed in the pasteurization process (almost all commercial juice in the US is pasteurized) so it's little more than sugar water. Take a multivitamin and drink a nice mandarin flavored seltzer water- you'll have an easier time meeting your calorie goals that way.

No, really, they don't. If the label lists only fruit, only fruit and water, or only fruit juice, then there is no added sugar. If there is sugar added (at least in the US) they are *required* by law to include added sugar (or HFCS or whatever) on the label.

That said, eating fruit is probably a much better use of your calories, as it contains fiber which is not present in juice.

100% pure  pineapple juice
  • Did not read comments...
Juice is good, as long as you read the ingredients!
If you're not eating fruit, I say add that juice in.
Plus I'm all for the cranberry juice. It can help prevent UTIs (they suck) and cranberries have plenty of antioxidants.

And if I'm finding it hard to meet my calorie goal that day, a 200ml carton at 95 calories helps.

    This is true!

I actually did a paper for my marketing class on Simply Orange. There are brands that market on this standpoint alone. No additives. Some brands might add junk, but legally, the label has to identify the ingredients. If it is not on the label, then it is not in there!

Anything made from concentrate, has added sugars. Otherwise every batch would taste different.
