I dont drink much juices anymore cause Im trying to stay under my calorie goal so Im just drinking nothing but water all day long! Should I be drinking any type of juice like orange, apple, or cranberry for any reason? What kind of juice do you drink if you do?
Eating the fruit is better, because fruit juice (even 100% fruit juice with no ADDED sugar) has separated the sugars from a good bit of the healthy components of the fruit, like the fiber and some of the vitamins.
However, if for whatever reason you cannot manage the actual fruit, either due to medical reasons or convenience, do what you gotta do to get the nutrients you need. Just try really hard to find actual fruit juices and not froot (my generic term for things that say "fruit" but don't actually contain much, if any), and keep in mind that you are not benefiting as fully from the juice as you would have from the real thing.
And if you make your own juice with a juice machine, do yourself a favor. Dump the juice down the sink (it's got most of the sugars) and eat the contents of the gunk bin (it's got most of the nutrients).0 -

I think like anything else ::sigh:: juice is fine in moderation. I love OJ, but I cut back to having a 4oz glass to cut calories. And I make sure to buy "natural" OJ and non-concentrated. Mostly I try to eat real fruit. I just can't eat bacon without swigging some OJ afterwards. Luckily I try to limit bacon to 1-3 times a week.0 -
Anything made from concentrate, has added sugars. Otherwise every batch would taste different.

Plus I'm all for the cranberry juice. It can help prevent UTIs (they suck) and cranberries have plenty of antioxidants.
The problem is finding cranberry juice that contains measurable amounts of cranberry in it. Most of them weasel out of it by using the term "Cocktail" or "Blend" and thereby weaseling out of the need to actually use much, if any, actual cranberry.
If you want cranberries in your diet, you should get some (not "craisins", those little suckers are loaded with sugar) and use them in recipes.0 -

If you want Cranberry without any other juices, just get cranberry. If you don't se it on the front it will be on the side at the very top of the nutrition label. Simply make sure it says 100% and not like 27% and you're good. it's pretty basic...0 -

They're not lying, but they are mixing the juice you think you are drinking with other juices that are higher in sugar.

Yes, it's got cranberry. Yes, it's 100% juice. But precious little of the actual juice is cranberry juice - you'd know it if it was because cranberries are TART, at about the level of pure lime juice, and few people would actually drink it straight.
So is it 100% juice? Yes. Mostly apple and grape juice, then a little cranberry juice concentrate mixed with a lot of water to cut the tartness.
With some of the others, like "Cranberry Juice Cocktail", they add sugar beet juice and sugar cane juice. Not sugar, technically, because they are juice. Right?0 -
The juices you buy at the store are basically just sugar. If you are juicing yourself, that's another story.0

I drink real cranberry juice straight, it is VERY sour. Not a whole lot of sugar in real cranberry juice!0 -
I LOVE juice. I could drink apple juice every day. If it fits in your calories why not? I still have some fresh OJ in the morning. Or apple cider during that fall
I have no medical reason to track my sugar, so I don't. Makes no difference in my weight loss as long as my protein and fat goals are met. Plus one cup of juice is like 140 calories? That is so little0 -
To actually answer the OP – No, there is no reason you have to drink juice, especially if you are eating whole fruit, unless you want to drink juice. The only reason I could see drinking juice (other than because you like it) is if it’s fortified with other nutrients you can’t seem to get from whole foods. For example, vegans often drink orange juice fortified with calcium and vitamin D because their diet might be lower in these nutrients.0

Trust me, I've bought the real thing to deal with UTI's. It's not something you want to drink. Cranberries are extremely tart, and proper cranberry juice makes straight lemon juice seem sweet.0 -

Juice is good, as long as you read the ingredients!
If you're not eating fruit, I say add that juice in.

Trust me, I've bought the real thing to deal with UTI's. It's not something you want to drink. Cranberries are extremely tart, and proper cranberry juice makes straight lemon juice seem sweet.

I don't have anything legit at this point to back up what I am about to say (although five minutes of google research will probably do the trick!) but even if it says 100% juice on the containers, I am 99.99% certain more crap is added into juice. Anyone who owns a juicer and has made their own can vouch that the juice doesn't sit for more than a day without going bad. You can buy juice from a super market that sits on shelves unopened for months, and than brought home and sit in a fridge for weeks without going bad. If it was 100% juice, that would be impossible.0

Are you kidding me? 100% Cranberry juice is great! I actually had a doctor tell me I had to get real cranberry juice for a UTI, and when I told him I already have it and drink it often he told me "I'm not talking about Cranberry cocktail" and I said NEITHER AM I.
Trader Joes and Whole foods both sell it.
I used to get these really high potency cranberry capsules and I would bite them and suck out the oh so "bitter" cranberry, twice a day. nothing in them but cranberry.0 -

Now, fructose by itself will not turn into fat and can be used by muscle, brain etc. But any fruit I know of will bring a good dose of glucose with the fructose which then leads to conditions favoring the fructose to fatty acid pathway.

They have their way of putting stuff in and make it look good, like vitamin D being used as perservative etc. If you can open a bottle, backwash into it, put it in a drawer for a month and it doesn't spoil there's only one name for it - poison.0

I read labels religiously and 100% juice is just that. There isn't even filtered water added...of course there is sugar in it, it occurs naturally, but it isn't added and it isn't high fructose corn syrup either.0
