    @karen- I will probably use the gym in winter but won’t be able to have same routine. Because the gym is 15-20 mins away from my house. I am sure we all already know what we need to do but either we don’t have right motivation, will power or accountability. Thanks for sharing your insight and struggles. Like you my ideal weight for height should be 108-146 probably weighted that in 9th grade the 146.

    Holly
    Minneapolis MN
    Age 48
    Single mom of deceased child and dog mom.
    I love walking and watching tv🤷🏻‍♀️
    Highest weight ever 283
    Re-starting weight May 2021
    280
    Current goal 260
    Long term goal 200
    Current weight 262.5

    I also am not focused on the right things. I don’t eat real healthy because I also am not a fan or cooking (for just one person). I tend to eat a lot of pre-packaged things.
    I do get on craving kicks but instead of just 1 to settle the craving it turns into many. Example craving chinese instead of having it for dinner 1 night I will have it multiple nights. Then I get mad that I did that.
    I also get excited for things like new work outs but if I don’t see the scale move I get annoyed and revert to old behavior.
    This weekend me and my dog have walked 10 miles just in our daily routine. Not to bad🙂. Plank challenge I forgot what day I am on for I missed a few but still at 40 seconds.

    If anyone has any ideas how to increase protein without increasing sodium that would be great. It seems like all the foods I like have a ton of sodium and I need to watch my sodium. FYI I’m not a fan of chicken. I thought about cottage cheese but that’s high in sodium. Only other thing I can think of is egg whites because I don’t eat the yoke.

    Sorry I've been MIA. We went away to Delaware for the week. We had such a great time. The townhouse we rented had a clubhouse with a full gym. The gym had picture windows surrounding it and overlooked the bay. Not only did I have a great selection of machines to choose from I had a wonderful view. I found myself often watching the blue heron who lived there every morning when I was at the gym. We arrived Saturday late afternoon - I was able to get my workout in at home before we left. I went to the gym Sunday -Friday. I skipped going Saturday morning before we left because I promised my daughter I would take her to the clubhouse one more time to play ping pong. While there we went on a dolphin whale watch, to a water park, the beach, walked the towns and did a lot of swimming in the pools. My daughter is asking to go back. She says next year she wants "to go back to Delaware and to Paris to see the Eiffel tower." LOL As far as eating goes... I did my best to make healthy options when we ate at restaurants. I definitely ate things I normally wouldn't eat but ate them in moderation.

    I weighed in this morning and discovered I have officially hit that 50lb loss mark! Wahoo. I am extremely proud of myself.

    Here are my stats for the month.
    Starting weight: 270 March 2021

    August Start Weight: 225.8
    August Goal Weight: 220
    Ultimate Goal Weight: TBD

    I weigh in on Sundays.

    August 1: 225.8
    August 8: 224.2
    August 15: 224.2
    August 22 222.2
    August 29:220.6
    August 31: 218.4

    I somehow managed to pass my August goal weight! However I failed on the plank challenge. I've come to the conclusion that this just is not the right time for me with that. I may try again down the road.

    Just because your harship isn't as bad as someone else it doesn't make it any less valid for you! I am glad you got to go to the concert. Congrats on the 20K steps that is amazing! I am glad your first week with your students went well! My cousin and bestie do Noom and love it. They say it hits more of the psychological aspect of it. Personally, for me, I like the free aspect of MFP. Like you, I know what I need to do and just have to stick to it. I find it hard to say no to sugary foods too. Especially since my daughter is always offering me a taste of hers. Though I am finding the longer I am on this journey the more my taste is changing. I find myself no longer enjoying the licks and bites of her icecream and other deserts.

    @mnwalkingqueen
    Look at you go at the plank challenge! You are doing amazing! As far as increasing protein, do you like or can you eat nuts or seeds? I buy large quantities of raw (unsalted) then snack on them. I also keep dried beans in the house and am always making beans in the instant pot. I love putting both on salads. I prefer dried beans over canned because you can control the sodium and seasonings you put on them.

    @Karen and Holly
    EEK!!! If I lived closer I would cook for you ladies. I love to cook!!!
    One of the things I tried on vacation was buffalo cauliflower bites. The bites were served over a bed of rice and quinoa, around the bed was fresh salsa and a scoop of vinegar based coleslaw. Oh my goodness it was so delicious. I am excited because I am going to try to recreate that recipe later on this week. I hope it goes well. I've never tried making it before. LOL

    Welcome. A 10 lb loss is a fantastic loss.

    I am a few pounds away from my lowest weight on here my last go on here. That is when I became pregant with my daughter. I cannot believe I am almost there already! I may just be a little bit excited about this!

    Ugh! This app sucks with my Iphone 7s. I had a long post but it never loaded. Try again.
    My food intake has not been good I assume on Saturday 11th(?) when I weigh in I will have gained. I went to funeral on 9/3/21 and I was the only non family person there, made me wonder if my funeral will have people at it. The person was 46 and I have known the family for 20 years. I stopped the plank challenge for I think I was doing wall planks wrong. I was getting a pinching feeling in my shoulder blade area.
    @JNettie- I like to cook and wish I could cook with you. It is just hard for me to cook for 1 person. Sounds like your vacation was fun and you had some great food.

    @mnwalkingqueen -- I tend to eat a lot of pre-packaged foods for my lunches, but I try to buy healthier options. I really like the Lean Cuisine Power Bowls. They are high protein and also have lower carb options--they tend to fill me up. There's an Italian chicken sausage and peppers one that is delicious! I also like Gilbert's Chicken Sausage which come in single servings and different flavors. I will bring that with some cottage cheese. A yogurt and granola bar or fiber one brownie to snack on during my afternoon plan period is usually enough for me (unless someone brings cookies, donuts, etc.).

    @JNettie73 -- How exciting that you are almost to your previous low weight! I've had buffalo cauliflower, and it is soooo good! I used to make a really yummy quinoa salad with asparagus, chick peas, and goat cheese. I need to make that again soon. Quinoa is one of my favorite foods, but I haven't cooked it lately.

    AFM--What a crazy, busy week! Monday I had a hair appointment. Tuesday, Gunner had PT, and then I had to drop him off and head to a wake for a colleague's father who passed away from cancer. Thursday was our Curriculum Night at school. And Friday I had plans with friends for dinner. Wednesday, the weather was gorgeous, and I left work with the intention of doing my 4-mile walk at least one day during the workweek. Alas, Gunner had a really bad "pooptastrophe" all over our kitchen floor. He gets stress induced colitis due to his age and sometimes has accidents, but this was on a whole new level. It took my husband and I over 3 hours to get it all cleaned up. I will spare you the gory details, but let's just say a throw rug met its fate, and there was an air vent involved. On the plus side, he was very good not to track it all over the house or on any soft surfaces that would be hard to clean (except for the aforementioned throw rug).

    The weekend was much better. Saturday, I met a friend out for dinner, and Sunday we went to my husband's sister's because her son was visiting with his wife and kids. I only did a quick 1 mile walk when we got home, but this morning I did almost 4 miles before we went to our friends' house for an early dinner. She made chicken limone, and I brought sausage and peppers, so it was good that I burned some extra calories before the meal.

    Happy to see I'm back in the 194 range, and working to keep the scale going in that direction. Just over 2 weeks until I leave for CA and Ohana Fest. I'm cautiously excited, but still a little worried that something will happen to cancel the festival at the last minute. Even if that happens, we will still go see our friends in Temecula, but it would be a bummer not to get to go to the festival.

    Hey Hey Hey-
    So Sunday I went back to the state fair and weather was great so that is why I will probably gain this week. Lots of craft beer and cider the food was always shared by my friend and I.

    @karen- Thanks for the ideas with food. Hope Gunner feels better and PT helps him. Music festival so fun.
    @neffyworld-those are some great goals.

    Get hair dyed
    Pedicure
    Box of donuts
    Egg Inc Piggy Bank unlocked
    Sleep over with Maria. Food- oven chips, pizza, salsa, guacamole and corn chips, chocolate covered strawberries, grapes, tomato juice
    Alcohol
    Go to Christian store
    New dress

    I probably won't do all of it.

    Friday: I am going for walks everyday, and that's about it. I'm not doing anything to prepare for the weekend, I might eat to maintenance in the weekend or go for a longer walk then. I'm not anticipating any goodies. I'm disappointed with my weightloss, only 1.8kg and it's my first week. I think I might be retaining water.

    A small loss but it is a loss so WAHOO!!!
    I had to go for repeat blood work yesterday morning. My last pannel came with with my potassium elevated. Before I have a follow up with my doctor later this week she requested I repeat my blood work. I am hoping for good results.

    My fasting glucose number for the first time ever was in the 90s yesterday and again this morning! (92 and 94) I am so incredibly excited. I have been working so hard and have seen my numbers come down over the past 6 months but nothing like this. My A1C still has me in the prediabetic range. Hopefully over time I can lower that even more and get out of that range.

    I hope everyone is having a great weekend. <3

    @neffyworld
    Congratulations on your loss. I am so happy for you! Keep up the great work.

    @mnwalkingqueen -- Holly, sounds like a fun time at the fair! I gave you bad info before; the Power Bowls I rally like are made by Healthy Choice, not Lean Cuisine. That being said, I do also like some of the LC meals.

    @JNettie73 -- That's so great about your glucose! I always worry about diabetes because it runs in my family, but so far I've never had a problem with it. I do have hereditary high cholesterol, and just had some genetic testing that confirmed it's genetic and not based on what I'm eating. I have an appointment with a lipid specialist to discuss ways to manage it. I really don't want to go on statins (I was on them in my 30s and gained quite a bit of weight), so I'm going to see if there are other medications available. I know from experience that the only way to lower it through my diet is to eat EXTREMELY low carb, and that's just not sustainable for me, long term. Congrats on our SV too-I agree, any loss is a loss!

    AFM--doing okay this past week. Definitely less busy that the week before. We had a department luncheon on Thursday. We plan themed lunches, now and then, and this one was salads. Sounds healthy, and the main courses were, for the most part, but there are always a few people who bring the sweets, and of course, we know I can't resist those. Needless to say, Thursday and Friday were not great days food-wise, but I at least managed to stay under maintenance. The weekend was much better because I got in some exercise both days--yard work Saturday and a 4 mile walk today.

    I also only saw a small loss last week, but I'll take it. :smile:

    Monday - Check In (how are you doing? Had any successes or struggles this week-end?)

    I am struggling because I want to eat more, and am not enjoying exercise. Yesterday I had the day off tracking and walking and my weight didn't go up too far overnight, so I'm pleased. Hopefully I'll lose another kilo this week. I have my deficit set at halfway- to lose half a kilogram per week.

    Good Evening!
    I actually lost 1lb vs gaining like I thought I would. Took Riley to state park walking in woods on a trail this past weekend with some old co-workers and their dogs we are going to make it a bi- weekly event. My friend gave me quinoa for first time on Saturday, she mixed it with pesto, celery, onion, apple and some chicken pieces. Must say it was good. Yesterday, I took my friend out for bday dinner and ate way to much.

    @JNettie73- Congrats on glucose numbers. Hope the best for next blood work results.
    @karen-Thanks for clarification on power bowls.
    @neffyworld-we all have those days don’t be to hard on yourself tomorrow is new day.

    Sorry I haven't been more involved with this thread. I now have it bookmarked. Is there an official group for it?

    What's new with me is I had a Birthday Monday and after a lot of pushing from my long distance husband I gave in to letting him order me Chinese Take Out to treat me as he feels there's not a lot of options for him being several states away. I thought "Eh it's one day and it's my birthday. It'll be alright". Well this man ordered me 2 BAGS FULL of food. We're talking dumplings, 2 portions of crab rangoons, 3 egg rolls, 5 spring rolls, chicken teriyaki sticks, fried scallops- and that's just the "appetizers"! It took a lot of effort to not be irritated with him as he knows I've been on my weightloss journey for a long time now and is very supportive. I ate maybe 1/3rd of it over the course of 2 days because I felt bad about wasting the food and his money. Today though I start fresh and the rest goes in the trash because it's more of a waste to me if I continue to consume it. So yeah 😅 That's what's new with me.

    For some background my husband and I have been trying to lose weight together. We both started at 280 lbs and he's a half inch shorter. I've lost 45 and he's gained 7 since November 2020. I think he'll benefit as well as me once we can live together, but it has been a struggle.

    I'll do better to check in more frequently from here on out.

    @mnwalkingqueen congrats on your loss! Can't say I'm a fan of quinoa, but it has been over a year since so perhaps I'll give it another shot.

    @neffyworld have you tried experimenting with other types of exercise?

    @JNettie73 a loss is a loss! Congrats on that and your glucose numbers.

    @AmberlyMarlene I've got some of my favourite songs on youtube, so I put on apple tv and sing and dance to them. I'm not sure how many calories it burns off, but I'm out of breath! I don't really have money to do other activites or join the gym. I have some available through mental health services, but I have a cold that just won't leave! Would love to go swimming again.

    Saturday - Success (what have you accomplished; focus on the positive of the week, NSV=non scale victories)

    I have walked 20,000 steps for three days in a row, which is something I didn't know I could do.

    The positive of the week is I got to eat some delicious meals and have dinner at my friend's house and watch a movie.

    I think some of my clothes are getting looser and my stomach seems smaller, but I may be imagining it.

    @neffyworld -- that's great!! I have my fitbit goal set at 11,500 steps/day, but I only reach it if I go on a walk or mow my lawn. I got 20,000+ at the Green Day concert last month, but it's rare I reach that level. Congrats! I like walking if I can do it outside. Once winter hits here in Chicago, I will need to rejoin the gym where I tend to switch it up a bit between elliptical, stationary bike, and running on the treadmill. Walking on a treadmill is too boring. Dancing is by far my favorite form of exercise, and it burns a ton of calories!

    @janicelsullivan -- welcome back!

    @AmberlyMarlene -- happy birthday!! That must be so hard living apart from your husband, but it's great that you are both trying to lose weight together. My husband is not overweight, but he certainly could be healthier. I've tried to get him to join me on walks, but he's not interested.

    AFM-- This past week has been crazy. We had a hard lockdown at school on Wednesday which turned out to just be a "joke" some kid made about having a gun, but it was a scary 45 minutes huddled in the dark with my 11th graders. They were rockstars during the whole ordeal. Afterwards, I told them I was proud that they did exactly what they were supposed to do, but also sad that they've been training for this their whole lives. Because of that situation, we had a delayed start on Thursday, and the district bought us donuts and coffee in the morning and pizza and salad for lunch. I ate some of both, but I still managed to stay under my calorie allowance for the day. In fact, I've done pretty well all week with nutrition. The only day I was over was Wed., and that was due to some alcohol calories which were absolutely necessary, LOL!

    I'm still struggling to get a longer walk in during the work week, mostly due to other appointments and meetings. On days when I don't have anything else scheduled, I find I need to catch up on laundry or paying bills or some other mundane task. I have been good about getting in at least one 4 mile walk on the weekend, so I'm happy about that.

    This week will be hectic because my sister and I leave Wed right after work to head to California. We will spend a couple of days with friends who live in the French Valley, and then Friday we will head to Ohanafest at Doheny Beach State Park. I'm so excited!! I can't believe it's actually happening after so many canceled trips and concerts. Now I'm starting to freak out a little about getting packed and ready to go!

    Weight hasn't gone down, but there where a couple of days that I saw 193.6 flicker on the digital scale before it decided I still weigh 194.2. That makes me hopeful that a loss is imminent.

    Wow I have missed some great things.

    @neffyworld -WTG with the steps and dancing. I am not to familiar with how ytube works but do they have free fitness videos you could do to change things up.
    @karen- That is horrific joke glad all was okay and that your kids listened so well. Enjoy your trip have fun and be safe.
    @AmberlyMarlene -Happy Birthday 🥳 Celebrating is hard you made good choices.
    @janicelsullivan- welcome back

    AFM- Working on better choices in food. Little annoyed at scale not moving much for walking twice a day for over 30 minutes but know it’s because of my eating. This past week I ate a lot of bad crap due to son’s death anniversary and 2 birthday dinners. I guess that I haven’t gotten the eating feelings thing under control yet. My dad’s death anniversary is coming up I am going to try hard not to pig out that day.
    I am going to try and do has many fun run/walks that I can most are still virtual. I am going to work towards actually being able to run one in 2022. I used to run the mile and 4x100 in high school but haven’t ran as an adult so will have to work my way to that.
    Riley and I used to walk from 7-8pm daily right now it is 7:35pm and completely pitch dark outside. Now, trying to figure out a new night time routine. We are still walking from 6-6:30 am it is mostly in the dark and we only walk our block in morning.
    Going hiking at Fort Snelling this Sunday with old co-workers we are going to try different state parks and local hiking trails bi weekly.

    Happy Sunday! We walked 5 miles this morning with friends in a regional park. The leaves are starting to turn which made me feel sad for that means that horrible white stuff and below zero temps are coming.
    So have any of you bought rotisserie chicken breast from store? Is it pumped full of sodium?

    Meh. This month was not my month for weight loss. My food has been off and I have not been getting in all my water. But, I have been getting in my workouts (bike) regularly. I am on a 22 day step streak with meeting my 10K steps. Most days I am getting in 14-15K steps. I count that as a win! I have been slacking on getting in my upper and lower body sessions. I need to get back to that. That is going to be my goal for October.

    I had my follow up with my doctor. My blood work looks good. She said my B12 is within normal range but is on the lower end of that range. I have to follow up in 3 months to see if I have raised it. If not we will explore weekly B12 shots. :# She also mentioned that my A1C dropped a little lower. She wants to me to come back in 3 months with blood work but believes after then I will "graduate" and only need to see her every 6 months.

    I just changed my B12 vitamin to a higher dosage one, since I recently finished off my other one. I am hoping the increase in dosage is enough to keep me from having to do weekly shots. My glucose continues to be in good ranges. It fluctuates from the 90s to low 100s. I am working hard on getting it consistently in the 90s. I know I will get there eventually.

    Thank you!
    I hope you are able to get it under control without having to go on statins.

    That quinoa with pesto sounds delicious. I never thought to add pesto to quinoa! Sorry, I don't have an answer to your rotisserie chicken question.

    I love dancing around the house to music too. My daughter and I have dance parties from time to time. It always puts me in a great mood! Wow neffy!!! That is amazing. (20,000 steps) I've only hit that once a few years ago. That certainly is not easy to do!
