Wahooo--- over 2 1/2 hours shoveling and hacking at heavy snow and ice and finally I can get my vehicles in and out of the driveway. I am so incredibly thankful that since the snow removal guys did *NOT* show up and didn't answer the phone that I had indeed lost enough weight to be able to do this work.

Now that indeed is a NSV!! Woot!

Drink your water.....:drinker: :drinker: (I'm celebrating with some hot tea! I know, I'm kinda walking on the wild side today. )

Lin - Where do you live again? i grew up in north western PA and was so glad to get away from it. We were so spoiled though. My dad worked for the city and use to bring the snow plow home so our driveway was always clean. I didn't shovel too often. It's amazing exercise though so good for you!!!

Saturday Success: Busy, busy day. This is our first Christmas in our new city of Las Vegas. My parents arrived this evening for a 10-day stay from Florida. We're so excited!! Of course, the house had to be cleaned this AM. Beds stripped and made. Laundry in between the cleaning. More baking of Heath Toffee Cookies and Oatmeal White Chocolate Cranberry Cookies. Of course, we needed groceries too so a trip to Wally World, Ace Hardware, and Trader Joe's. Tomorrow morning will go to church then have a neighborhood Christmas party and then another event Sunday night. The rest of the week is busy too, but I'm looking forward to the busy.

January Challenge - I'm in 100%!! The past 5 months have been amazing on MFP, but the past 6 weeks a bit of a plateau and I need to get back to basics and refocus!!!

Thanks for the advice on the gift for my trainer.

Today ended up being an interesting day. Some friends talked me into going to one of the SPCA shelters and I fell in love with a tabby. I had no intention of adopting, but everything just fell into place - someone had dropped her at the shelter about an hour before we got there. I've named her Zoe, she's 2-1/2 months old and right now right at home sleeping on my lap - she's my new profile pic.

Saturday Success: Had a fun "girls' day" with my daughters. We went shopping for beading supplies, had lunch at Texas Roadhouse, and then went to one daughter's place to make necklaces. Mine turned out surprisingly well. I felt successful with Texas Roadhouse, too. I ate very little for breakfast, so even though my lunch added up to 750 calories, I was able to stay under my calorie goal for the day. We had put taco soup in some crock pots before we left so the family all had eaten when we got home and there was some left for us, too. I've made 2 batches of candy tonight. I still have a few gifts to wrap. Tomorrow is our family Christmas dinner and gift exchange. ( We have to do it when everyone can be here.) Tomorrow's meals will be a challenge, but then everyone will be going home and I can quit pushing the boundaries so hard.
    Enjoy your Sunday. Kaye

  • sunday sharing-
the baby woke up to nurse at 5am and wouldn't go back to sleep. We wanderred downstirs at about 6ish and got started on a huge farm style breakfast.I did pretty good considering I was cooking for almost 2hours before everyone else woke up. (baby fell asleep in her carrier). I kept my portions small and didn't sample everything!!! Next test is cookies seeing as I need to finish holiday baking. I wish there was an option for calories burned doing 'sexercize' lol. I'm feeling pretty confident after losing the first 50lbs and gave hubby an early christmas present (a specil fantasy outfit I wore).I'm sure I burned off a lot last night lol. Going to make sure I do all my exercizes today. Idk about christmas eve and christmas.both days are going to be busy.I'll at least do my walking w/ the baby, but idk what else I'll manage. with a 6yr old, 2 3yr olds, and a 3month old things are bound to be crazy the next few days.

Well, that isn't good. I had my first gain today since starting MFP the end of Sep. I know it is just a bump in the road, but it makes me sad. Today will be hard, too, but I will keep trudging on. Have a good Sunday. Kaye

I am not even close to being ready! I decided to only worry about what I need before the actual holiday. I won't see most of my friends and their children until after Christmas, so I figure I'll go shopping for their presents after Tuesday. Maybe I'll get some good post-holiday deals that way as well.

Thanks, all. I didn't like the name she came with so changed it - I almost named her Mistletoe but a friend of mine said it was too long, Zoe kind of stuck and somehow seems to fit her so that's her name. She is so tiny and sweet, but loves to snuggle. I put together a bed for her on the floor next to my bed with her toys last night, but she didn't leave my side all night - I forgot that sleeping with a kitten is much like sleeping with a 5-year old - they move around so much and she purrs like a freight train. LOL I tried to upload some photos here but can't get it to work - she has really neat markings in her fur and this pink belly with polka dots. So cute! Right now she's fighting with the stairs, not sure who is winning. Hopefully she'll be okay when I run some errands in a bit - I have this fear of her climbing the 30-foot window treatments in the living room and sitting on the window sills near the ceiling. I have no way to get her down from there so really hope she is not attracted to that idea and that doesn't happen!

I'm not ready for Christmas yet either, yesterday kind of threw me off a bit. I need to get to the grocery store and then get some cookies baked this afternoon after my training session.

Right now I'm watching the original Miracle on 34th Street, but really need to get moving and get some things done around here.

kaye- don't let a little bump in the road derail you. It is disappointing but look at what you can change for this week and get right back at it with your next meal

son, DIL and grandson arrived last night. Grandson woke me up at 5 am and has not left my side.....so wonderful.
Totally mixed up on what day it is....thought it was saturday....apparently not

@Kaye -- you can wrap up warm and get outside, right? I think thermal socks are really important when it's really cold; it's amazing how cold your feet get even with boots on. I think it's sensible to relax a little on calories on the biggest celebration days of the holidays, but manage the lesser events. The problem comes if you have two weeks of not logging, because your appetite gradually increases and you're eating loads by the end. And I don't think small gains at this time of year matter a whit. Just keep going and they'll be a distant memory soon enough.
@Kelley -- 55 degrees is almost perfect running weather. I've been finding when it drops below about 40 I have to really work to keep warm, and it's all much harder. And welcome to Zoe the kitty!
@Holly -- pretty sure your immediate family should be unconditionally loving, not just the animals...
@Robin -- Definitely up for SWEAT, but I'm trying to avoid HUNGER beyond a sort of 'mild peckishness'. SORE MUSCLES though are good; not 'OMG I can't move' but just sort of 'ooh, I can tell I worked out yesterday'. A little bit of hunger maybe. I've been a bit rubbish about the walks too, though i got a good one in on Friday.
@Katrena -- I'm worried about your hubby too; that sounds really scary.
@Kirk -- Welcome -- and well done on your journey so far! I bet your doctor will be really pleased with you already.
@Kris -- hope the antibiotics did their job and you're feeling better now.
@Tina -- was that Dance Central? I have a plan to put an XBox into one of the upstairs rooms; there's not room to do Kinect in the living room.
@Hyzaarc -- Curling sounds excellently strenuous.
@Susan -- that sounds like a brilliant, brilliant meal, and you will not gain anything like five pounds.
@Janet -- Welcome! Starting again is a great success.
@MaraDiaz -- I ran a mile with no walking about two months ago, and I think it's the first time I've ever done that. It was a brilliant feeling, and I've had lots of other running successes since!

My MFP disaster day, with a big pub lunch with my inlaws, and then dinner and drinks with friends, was pretty much as expected. I only ate about 60% of my main course lunch at the pub, and eschewed pudding for coffee. I took a very small portion of dinner at our friends', and ate it with salad. But with the beer, wine, chocs, general fooferol, I still went about 1400 calories over for the day. I'm fairly pleased with that; this was a major portion of my Christmas celebrations. Pretty much back on track today despite a cooked breakfast; had my annual Starbucks eggnog latte for lunch and am planning a very light supper. It's been a lovely, relaxing weekend full of good times (even though the journeys were long -- luckily my husband does the driving). I just have a few things to do today and tomorrow morning.

My Sunday success is this -- Look How Far I've Come Since June!

I might not have time to post tomorrow -- so if not I hope you all have a wonderful, wonderful Christmas.

Happy sunday everyone. I am getting geared up to start the christmas cookie baking. My daughter and I are going to make about six different kinds of cookies and the baking will officially be done. It was supposed to be everyone doing it but my parents are just getting home today and one brother is moving so his wife is busy and the other brother is having marital issues so dont really want his wife around so it is down to just me and my daughter. Its all good though. We have alot of fun baking together and I have two eager taste testers with my son and husband  I hope everyone is enjoying their holidays and remembering all the blessings in their lives at this special time. Have a great time and eat some wonderful food and remember drink your water :drinker: :drinker:

JanetRene - welcome to our group! Nice time of the year to join!

blissful - sounds like you have your hands (and legs) full with those four toddlers and infants - boy,you must get tons of exercise, not to mention what you got last night :blushing: ! You could record that as general aerobics, I suppose!

Kaye - you'll be OK.... I imagine it was a gut-wrenching feeling to see that scale go up, but you're the one in charge of the scale, its not in charge of you! Have a glass of water between your treats over the next few days, don't forget that trick. Hugs. :drinker:

    KarenLeona - family - sigh - so wonderful -

Boho - Merry Christmas to you. I like your Sunday Success! Brilliant!

jt - enjoy your cookie baking - and special memory making with your daughter- twill be a good time!

skinny - I'm not the best photographer around - I take copious amounts of snaps so I can winnow through them later and choose the best shots then. The Luck of the Draw is my method! I took over 50 snaps and I think only 3 will be used.

My BF is coming over tomorrow night and bringing steaks for me to grill. Yummy! Today I got another long walk in - so another successful day.!

    Happy holidays, folks!

Back from our out of town celebrating - wish I could say I stayed the course, but I fell off the wagon pretty hard (particularly today) - didn't go over a maintenance level except for today. :blushing:

back on track (and back to work) tomorrow...

    Good morning all.

@susan2396- sounds like you liked Gordon Ramsay Burger at Planet Hollywood, I guess we will have to try it (no twisting of arms needed lol)

@Hyzaarc- ever seen a movie called “Men with Brooms”, it is a Canadian made quirky comedy, drama, romance that brought a tear to my eye. I loved it.

    menwithbrooms_zps6218f29a.jpg

I’m off work until January 3! Which will be great but I must try to stay active as I tend to be very sedentary when not working. I will be logging my whimpy strength training and all my walks but it will be a challenge to be active.
    Tom

Yup I've seen Men with Brooms before...
I've been curling since 2010 (before my back surgeries and injuries/paralysis). I'm entered in the USWCA (US Women's Curling Assoc.) All American Bonspiel in february. It'll be my first bonspiel and round robin tournament. I'm one of 24 women selected from my club to participate, and I'm rather stoked about it.

@Robin we don't lift rocks, the hardest part is learning how to slide out of the hack. You could learn curling in 15 minutes or less.

Kelley- I like the gift you got for your trainer. I tend to give my trainer a gift card to a local outdoor store such as Eastern Mountain Sports or Modell's Sporting Goods. That way he can buy something that he wants for himself or too use with his clients. Right now my trainer is looking for a football helmet- he is trying out for a semi-pro team in the Annapolis area. I love the new kitten so adorable.

Kaye- don't dread a little weight gain- yes it is depressing to see the scale go up but it can just a blimp due to to much salt and water retention. Take an extra walk or drink some more water tomorrow to help flush your body of salt.

Hyzaarc- That is really cool about the curling competition. It is even better that you are curling after back surgeries. Maybe my brother would be interested in learning to curl after he has finished healing from his back surgery.

Today, was a busy day with a training appointment, grocery store and baking cookies (peanut butter) but overall it was good day. I decided that I needed a reminder of how far I have come over the past two years so I pulled out my old school ID photos. Every time I look at those pictures, I don't recognize the person in the pictures both old and new. I want to post them on here if I can figure it. Anyway, I showed the pictures to my trainer (I have been working with him for about 3 months) and he could not believe the difference. He did not know me when I was at my heaviest and his facial expression was priceless. The nicest thing he said to me today was that he wanted to keep training with me and wanted to be aware of my future progress. I have come a long way with him in just 12 sessions. I have one session left with him but I am seriously considering renewing. My old trainer (Donny) has not contacted me about training with him again which is disappointing. He is working as a landscaper but that is no excuse- then again I like the comfort of a gym when it is cold and dark outside. It may be a good thing that this has happened.

Thank you!!! I have to keep telling myself I've only been here 8 months and in Atlanta almost 20 years. It's going to take time. Plus, Las Vegas is such a transient town with people coming and going all the time. I've heard it's very hard to make friends, but I'm trying to get us grounded and make some solid friends.

@laurie--it's nice that things have gone well with your new trainer--I know it was a big hassle to switch, but maybe it was all for the best.

@hyzaarc--that's so awesome that you were selected for the tournament--what an achievement!:drinker:

@vickie--I don't think one day over maintenance is bad at all! Glad you are home safely and back on track!

@robin--yum, steak!! good girl getting that walk in today!

@tammy--hope the baking went well--have a wonderful holiday!

@alison--it sounds like you are having a great holiday season--as you said, one or two big calorie days is not a big deal. Hope you enjoyed your starbucks!

@karenleona--I know the days are getting away from me as well. I can't believe tomorrow is christmas eve! Glad you have your family there to celebrate with you!

@kaye--as others already said, just drink lots of water and the scale will go right back down!

@mara--congrats on your 1st "walk-free" mile--I remember that feeling, and truth be told I still have days where I can't make it a mile without a walk break (even after a year and a half of running regularly!). Today was a perfect example--got on the treadmill and just wasn't feeling ti, so I decided to do speed-work instead.

    Sunday Share:
I also had a busy day today. Cleaned the bathroom (my least favorite activity :grumble: ), walked gunner, went to the gym, back home to shower/change. Then I went to starbuck's followed by a trip to target to complete christmas shopping. I got my niece 2 really cute outfits and bought all of the ingredients so my husband can make garlic mashed potatoes to take to my parents' on Tuesday. Tomorrow we head to my MIL's for a couple of hours in the afternoon. No big meal or anything, so I'm not too concerned about my calories--tuesday will be the real challenge day.

    Exercise Goals:
Sun--walk gunner + gym DONE (did weights, speed work on treadmill, and stationary bike)
    Mon--walk gunner
    Tues--walk gunner
    Wed--walk gunner + gym
    Thurs--walk gunner
    Fri--walk gunner + gym
    Sat--walk gunner + gym

    Grading goals:
    1. x/22 diction analyses
    2. 6/22 Failure essays
    3. x/48 AP tests
    4. x/48 AP essays
    5. 59/59 Scarlet Letter annotations DONE
    6. x/30 Scarlet Letter Papers
    7. x/28 Tone Test revisions
